I don't think Mike is blaming our current crisis only on Bush and the Republicans. He does make a good point that had the Republicans and Bush done their job of shoring up the ship, we wouldn't be in this mess. I agree, Obama is pouring gasoline on the fire and making a recession into a depression fast.
You have to ask, would we be in this mess had the Republicans stopped Barney Frank and the Clinton Administration expansion for faulty home mortgages? I mean they had control of Congress and the Presidency from 2001-2006 and they couldn't do anything to stop it other than pay it lip service? They grew the government more than the previous Democrat controlled Congress. The reason we have Obama is because of the Republicans, not for what they did, rather for what they didn't do. No excuse.
Do you think we would be in this mess had they passed the Fair Tax instead of ignore it when they had the numbers to do so? They hold as much blame as the Democrats for this mess.
Stop giving the Republicans a pass, they don't deserve one.
Joyce, you can't vote for the only man that stands-up for our Constitution because the way he looks? Vote for principles, not the way a politician looks. That's what Democrats do.

EXCELLENT! What a representative should be
This is fantastic. I would have loved to see Bush appear before Congress once per week to get grilled, and Obama too for that matter. This is a perfect example of what a responsible elected representative of the people should be doing with his time. This shows that you can strongly state your point while managing to sound respectful (might be the accent though..) Very well said, sir!

Why can't we find anyone with this level of common sense and eloquence on our side of the pond? Just close your eyes and picture this: Obama standing with his jaw dropping, teleprompter short circuiting, as he is lambasted by this gentleman's American clone. Oh, how I wish it were so......
Where Was the GOP?
It's a shame the GOP failed utterly to heed his advice. Instead of shoring up our finances, they engaged in an orgy of spending under the leadership of President Bush and a Republican Congress.
Now, we are forced to weather the storm under a president whose policies will lead to the destruction of our nation's economy unless checked. The GOP, as his opposition, is devoid of credibility on this issue because of past failures.
MEP Hannan would never be elected in this country. He didn't once mention American Idol, or a sports team. He used words with more than three syllables. He skillfully used metaphor and made allusions to history. He didn't pander to voters and promise more freebies for the dependent masses.

Gawd, do we need someone on this side of the pond to speak the truth like that! BHO & his ilk are going to saddle future generations of Americans with that kind of debt at birth too and no-one on the Hill has lifted a voice in protest. Constitutional authority? The porkers have yet to grasp that concept.

You are absolutely correct. For that very reason I resigned from the Republican Party and am now Unaffiliated. Republicans have no moral authority. We should attack DC via the State Legislatures and Demand a Constitutional Convention. Demand Term Limits and Repeal of the 16th Amendment....ending the reign of career politicians and snatching power from the Central Government by taking away their Income Tax Authority.

Listening to it, I was struck my his metaphor of how you should patch your ship during the good times. During the economic boom, the GOP -- instead of fixing Social Security or transforming the tax code or controlling spending -- engaged in an orgy of spending and regulation.
