I am told that March Madness officially starts today. I couldn't care less, but since President Obama is too busy filling out his parlay care ... or is it the West Wing Pool, I am willing to be a humble replacement in the meantime. It's not like I have anything better to do. Apparently he doesn't either.

Now, on to more important things .......

  • @By Ted @ 03/19/09 04:54:59 PM
Frank and his brain washed brethren should take a nice warm toaster bath? Sure, Hitler, let's get rid of everyone who doesn't agree with you. Oh wait, you're retarded. How about this, you take the bath, Frank and I will take turns with your wife? Deal?

What do you say, Frank? I'll be she could use a man about now.

What pointless drivel. Let me correct you on a couple of things that you clearly have no clue about. Nobody forced banks to give high risk loans and your memory sucks, just like you. Bush was all over the "American dream" of home ownership. He claimed the increase in the number of homeowners as a success that happened on his watch. The fact that you fail to remember it doesn't mean it didn't happen.

Take a hike, jerk. Nobody wants to hear your hate-filled lies.
  • Big Deal
First, it takes like 5 minutes to fill out a bracket. I'm pretty sure Obama can take 5 minutes off - if you are complaining about this, then you should complain that he is allowed to sleep.

Second, even though GWB took a lot of vacation, the president's vacations are probably completely different than ours since he basically travels with the entire executive branch.

Third, the only real problem with his bracket is all the attention that the media has made of it. It should not be news because it is not important.
  • March Madness and Culture
    Neal,

Don't know why you hate the March Madness so much? I have a disdain for the preferential treatment of athletes...I get it.

However, college sports, particularly Football and Basketball, are a great part of American Culture. The Athletic excellence and pageantry. There really is nothing else that compares any where on earth.

You should be proud of it as an American. Life isn't always about politics and pointing fingers....

  • March Madness
At least maybe now he can pick a winner in something
  • Obambracket
We should leave President Obamuppet alone filling out his bracket. He's in his element. Any other actions this guy takes weakens our nation.
  • calm down
Obviously Obama's predecessor was much worse about wasting time, taking huge amounts of vacation time (the most of any president: more than year out of only 8 years, for about 30% of his terms in office) after doing nothing productive, and even screwing around and staying on vacation during Hurricane Katrina. It's also kind of amusing that he would have been aghast at guaranteeing American workers even 1/30th of his vacation time.

And no, pretending to clear brush for the media is not honest work.

However, I don't think he's the standard to hold to.

But I also don't think 5 minutes filling out a bracket is scandalous.

    I don't like Obama's picks, though.
  • @ Frank
Bush ran it into the ground eh? You watch too much NBC and CNN my friend. You have been brain washed along with the pluthera of no-minds that voted this a**hat into office.

Bush TRIED to fix things, but got shot down by the Dodd's of the world. Yet, you pin it all on him.

Who forced the banks to give the "HIGH RISK" loans again? I don't remember Bush being on that docket.

Seeing this PRETTY BRACKET BOARD makes me sick. Seeing that this gets publicity makes me sick.

Yet, you don't see the president congratulate himself video anywhere (you know, the one where he screwed up and read it off of his teleprompter and realized it after he had already said it)? DUR!

You sir, along with your brain washed brethren, need to take a nice, warm toaster bath.

    TH/sigh
  • ask woody?
can half-white me jump, just a little?
  • baaaaaaa
    ok, maybe I was a little......SWEETIIE!

    :)
  • Keep it up
My thought on the whole presidency is this, the more time he spends picking his brackets the less time he has to hurt my country. We need a tournement every month. Oh! I forgot, the IRS has April Madness already locked down.
  • Bush Syscophants!
Where were all you whiners that were worrying about the what the Prez is doing for a couple of minutes, when Gunga-Din Bush ran this country in the ground? Where were you when Bush spent over 33% of his time in office on vacation!
Let's hear it from you Bush Sychophants, where were you!
  • I hope the Bush voters....
....have the courage to be consistant when calling out distractions like the one pictured above. Like calling the Iraq and Afghanistan invasions a distraction for instance. Just the truth.

I wish the board Obama is writing on had something written on it about abolishing about 60 to 70% of all federal govt programs, doing away with the income tax, deporting illegals and moving away from neo-conservative type military adeventurism in favor of traditional conservative non-interventionism. Or maybe they could be looking over some quotes from Jefferson or the U.S. Constitution to refresh themselves on the job description of president.
  • Spread the wins!
I wonder if Barack is being as consistent with his basketball picks as he is with taxation policies. Meaning, I wonder if is trying to figure out a way to spread some of North Carolina's and Louisville's wins to the 16 seeds in the bracket. That would only be "fair" in his eyes, right?
  • "sweetheart"
ain't he cute, trying to get my goat

No, I think lots are taking it seriously.
  • Joyce, Joyce, Joyce....
Only ones taking this seriously are the folks in your camp, sweetheart. I do enjoy your posts.
  • Oh, for the love of . . .
It's a 10-minute diversion for a guy that is a huge basketball fan. The country didn't fall apart during that time. That takes more like 20-30 minutes.
  • Maybe this is what he knows ???
I've observed that folk’s activity tends toward what they know and are good at. Conversely, they shy away from those things they are ignorant about and don't know. Maybe he's better at picking college basket ball teams than governing or solving the countries economic issues.
  • Wait a minute........
.....where's the teleprompter? What team does the teleprompter pick?
  • Cost
Hmmm . . . I wonder how much that decorated white board and labor cost us taxpayers - Glad to know the future is in his hands.
  • NCAA Picks
Hey Mr. Prez? Who the hell paid for that Bracket Board you're writing on? It looks very "Presidential"
  • Conservatives don't have a platform?
Actually, thanks to Obama's mishandling of the federal budget and the tax cheats/AIG campaign donation recipients that permeate his administration, we do.

    Thank-you, we appreciate it!
  • WTF?
Nice bracket there PREZBO! While you people slam AIG and their contract binding bonuses, you get no blame and no fingers pointed at you, yet get a SWEET presidential bracket...
  • Nice to see elected officials at work
This gives me a better understanding of how the AIG and bailout budget mess came about.

  • Gimme a Break!
I'm not an Obama supporter by any stretch, but give me a freaking break. This is an excellent political move on his part...showing he's in touch with what's going on out there.

You folks who sit on the sidelines and complain about every little detail are doing far worse for this country than the current President, no matter how misguided his policies may be.
  • Better use of time
Perhaps if our president did what I do with my free time--study people like Thomas Jefferson, Milton Friedman, and F.A. Hayek--and spends less time thinking about basketball he would not be making the decisions he is making about our economy. This Keynesian B.S. about trickling wealth up through the economy is nothing but further enabling of the welfare generation. When our economy is struggling you don't rob from those who have not yet failed to prop up those who already have. You are driving us faster towards ruin. What we must do is radically cut the federal government, return power to the states, and reduce the burden of this monstrosity on everyone!
When your family is insolvent and in a crisis does it make more sense to get a huge second mortgage that your children will have to pay off? Maybe cutting overhead and working harder (Eg. grow the economy) would make a bit more sense. Call me crazy but I have never seen a broke person spend his way out of a problem but who am I to judge, I don't even watch basketball!
Or maybe I am wrong, perhaps I SHOULD be thinking about future college dropouts throwing balls through metal rings...I could have this thing all backwards...
    WWBOD? Watch Basketball!!!

P.S. it is not the 7 min he is spending on the bracket that bothers me, it is the fact that he is thinking about sports at a time like this in general that bothers me. Were I spending trillions of other peoples money I would not be thinking about sports...not a bit.
  • As long as he pays taxes on his winnings ...
Since gambling is technically an illegal activity in the District of Columbia, should there be a 100% surtax on any winnings?
  • penmanship
Being left-handed myself, I'm impressed with his handwriting, especially on a board with marker.
  • "cleaning up his predecessor's mess"
"cleaning up his predecessor's mess" Are you serious? Do all Democrats think that the President of the United States is another name for the CEO of America's (and the world's) economy?

HEY LADY! OBAMA IS GONNA FIX THE MESS!!! YAY! YAY!! OBAMA IS GONNA FIX THE MESS! YAAAAAAYYYY!!!

    Wow. These people vote.
  • O the Bama
What this man, Obama, needs is a job.
Evidently, the pressure of the presidency isn't enough for him to take this "CRISIS" seriously. I hope all these tv appearances and photo opps soon bring him to decide between TV Talk Show personality or male model, maybe both.
  • obama's bracket
It's not so much he filled out a bracket, it was the non-stop drooling over it that drove me up a wall. It plastered all over the front page of ESPN.com yesterday, and the lead story on Sportscenter.

Do you really think people give a damn about his brackets? Enough already.
  • Does anybody really care?
    Pass.
  • Yeah Gavin
I can be more specific, should have known I would have to.

Obama probably spent as much time filling out his NCAA bracket as Bush spent reading stories to school children on the morning of 9-11 AFTER he was told we were under attack. What was that: about 7 minutes?
By Gavin Volaire - that for instance was stupid. Secret Service told him to stay put. He issued instructions to get info together for him asap so he wasn't doing "nothing".

And this was supposed to be fun for Obama picking teams not a slam on him for doing so. You guys took this too seriously.
  • The One's picks
The time He spends watching the tourney is time He can't spend messing up the country. Besides, this is one thing he actually knows something about.
  • "Grumpy complainers"
Us "Grumpy complainers" are only mimicking the behavior we had to endure for the past 8 years of BDS.
  • Correct phrasing
Thank you Neal for correctly saying "I couldn't care less". It drives me crazy when people incorrectly say "I could care less."
  • re: Re: Presidential Vacation Time
    Andre -- LOL. Good point!
  • Conservative Platform?
Maybe the conservatives can make this part of their 2010 platform, since they don't have anything right now.
  • Let him have some fun.
Everyone's gotta' take breaks and have fun. However! This really isn't something to be done publicly and really isn't news.

His picks are bogus, anyways; he picked BYU over Texas A&M in the first round. What kind of nonsense is that?
  • @By Joyce M/Blythe @ 03/19/09 10:21:32 AM
Care to be more specific or can we assume you have sense enough to mean what spews from those pretending it is somehow wrong for Obama to fill out an NCAA bracket?
  • NCAA Tournament
So, if Duke wins the tournament, will Coach K be invited to the White House?
  • Re: Presidential Vacation Time
That Clinton number is not entirely accurate. You did not take into account all those mini-vacations he took at his desk with the intern.
  • Nonsense
I can't believe the crap being spewed here.
  • Mess
    Josh

do you mean the mess that the boobs like slobbering Barney and Chris Dodd made?
  • We should be grateful.
As long as he's busy with this, he's not trashing the country.
  • the puppet
...wonder if the teleprompter will pick his teams.
  • Playoffs
I'll bet he spent more time on that than reading the crap he's been signing, and I don't think he came up with those picks by himself. I know he had help from his teleprompter
  • Dem jock sniffers
Remember when Numb Nancy took over as Speaker and made all these promises to get everything done, without interruption, promise of nothing to hold them up?
They received ballgame tickets so they closed shop and took off (at our expense) to do some jock sniffing.
The GAMES have begun and FREEDOM is losing.
  • A little wite-out and the truth comes out
Just remove the B from BRACKET and we've got some honesty coming out the man.
  • Presidential Vacation Time
I watched the entire clip this morning on ESPN while I drank my morning coffee. It must have taken him 7 minutes to do this.

    Presidential Vacation Days:
    Carter - 79
    Reagan - 335
    Bush Sr. - 543
    Clinton - 152
    Bush Jr. - 487

I think Obama has earned his 7 minute break considering how much work it's been cleaning up his predecessor's mess.
  • Grumpy complainers
I agree with Neal that I could not care less about the NCAA tournament. I want my alma mater to be known for its academics, not its athletics.

BUT, I also think that those who complain about Obama spending a few minutes filling out his NCAA bracket are most likely cranky, bitter men who growl and complain more often than they smile and laugh.

The complainers are the same kind of grumpy people who would love to be members of a Homeowner's Association who would demand the dismantling of Sasha and Meliah's new swing set.

Oh, and BTW, Alpine @ 03/19/09 09:28:44 AM: Filling out a bracket is not gambling.
  • yeah right
yeah the president messiah takes a break for a little off track betting? (Is that legal in D.C.?) Oh well anything to get is mind off "THE WORST FINANCIAL CRISES THE WORLD HAS EVER WITNESSED SINCE ADAM AND EVE WERE THROWN OUT OF THE GARDEN AND MADE TO WORK FOR A LIVING!(as a side note: the sky is falling also, and the world is coming to an end I know 'cause Al Gore told me!)HOW DARE the "HOLY ONE" abandon us and waste a crisis for even a minute, doesn't he realize that without his holy, reasuring guidence his followers might forget how to breathe(heres some help, breathe in,breathe out, breathe in,breathe out,now repeat until the Obama's coffee break is over) By the way Hugo at least brush clearing is honest work.I haven't seen anything on Obama's resume that suggest he even knows what that is.
  • BO jock sniffing
    Typical Liberal Democrat!!!!!
  • NCAA Brackets
According to the Joint Ethics Regulation, DoD employees shall neither participate in gambling activities while on base nor while on duty; this includes both military and civilian personnel.”
Does this not also apply to elected officials? Not sure...
  • Didn't he already....
Didn't he already have a vacation, I thought I read something about him siting on the beach enjoying a break.
  • Obama said while filling in his braket.
"Here's what I like about Carolina: experience and balance," Obama said.

    Two things Obama lacks himself.....
  • so?
I agree, this is a trivial matter... unless of course it was a deliberate distraction... but somehow I don't think they're smart enough to plan it that way. It's just more Obamateur Antics from the White House.
  • What if Bush did this?
It's good to know that everything is so perfect that messiah can spend a half hour on this and go on the late night talk shows.

And how much tax money was wasted on printing up that special "Presidential Bracket" display?
  • 7 minutes....
Obama probably spent as much time filling out his NCAA bracket as Bush spent reading stories to school children on the morning of 9-11 AFTER he was told we were under attack. What was that: about 7 minutes?
  • OHH NOES!!!
The President might have taken 10 minutes out of his day to have some fun! We can't have that-surely there's some brush to be cleared at his ranch...
  • Well look at the bright side
at least he's taking a break from turning our country into the USS of A...
