Barack Obama .. he's a do whatever you have to do to win kinda guy. Don't you just love that about him? So ... how does Obama plan to ram through his healthcare and energy schemes? After all, he doesn't have a filibuster-proof majority in the Senate. Surely there's something he can do. As a matter of fact, there is! He will use a procedural tactic that would only require 50 votes in order to pass the Senate. Here's the deal. You include your health "reforms" in a budget reconciliation bill. These bills require only 50 votes to pass and no filibuster is permitted. Peter Orszag is the director of the Office of Management and Budget. Now he says that he would prefer that this budget reconciliation process not be used, but, after all, health care is crucial ... and when you dealing with something so very important like this you may just have to use some awkward tactics. After all ... as Orszag says, healthcare is "the key to our fiscal future." More like the key to increased government dependency.

Health care isn't the only thing Obama will get through using this tactic. Obama has a grand new taxation plan out there called "carbon cap and trade." Look for this to become law by the same means.

Do you doubt that our wonderful, amazing, greatest president in the history of this country would try some devious tactics to enact his socialist agenda? Permit me to remind you how he won his very first election to public office. He didn't win at the ballot box ... he won by sending his cohorts to the courthouses to work on disqualifying all of his opponents. If you can't beat them, have them removed from the ballot. Whatever works is good enough for Obama ... including nationalizing our healthcare through budgetary trickery.

Maybe this rhetoric from Orszag has something to do with it. He says, "I just reject the theory that the only thing that drives economic performance is the marginal tax rate on wealthy Americans and the only way of being pro-market is to funnel billions and billions of dollars of subsidies to corporations."

Simply put ... what a jerk. Orszag seems to be every bit the anti-capitalist his boss is. Stand by for health care rationing my friends. For those of you who don't believe it could ever happen ... I would really like to be there when some half-assed government bureaucrat tells you that you just don't qualify for some medical procedure because there are others younger and more worthy than you who have longer to live and more to accomplish.

What others are saying

  • procedural tactics
Our wonderful ex-governor Napolitano used the same procedure to get "speed cameras" installed on the highways here in Arizona. Problem is, to justify, the claim was made that the cameras would supply the state with $90m in revenue. Well, they actually only made $30m, and that was before the $20m for installation and operations fees. Oh, and it bypassed the state legislature and the traffic commission, both of whom are now trying to get legislation in to make them illegal. It's this kind of "budgeting" that is getting us into so much trouble... thankfully for AZ she is gone, but not good for the rest of the US - she wasn't all that good at protecting our border, either.
  • Orszag
"I just reject the theory that the only thing that drives economic performance is the marginal tax rate on wealthy Americans and the only way of being pro-market is to funnel billions and billions of dollars of subsidies to corporations." Sounds like what the country has done for the last 8 years. the results are impressive. What's your problem Neal?
  • Agreement
"I just reject the theory that the only thing that drives economic performance is the marginal tax rate on wealthy Americans and the only way of being pro-market is to funnel billions and billions of dollars of subsidies to corporations."

I agree with him somewhat here. Bush's cow-towing and subsidies to every politically-connected business out there is the reason our economy is in such bad shape.
  • One nation, under Obama...
You know, it's a source of endless entertainment to watch the lberals get their panties twisted over their New Kid on the Block and his free wheeling devil may care programs. That 'we won, you lost' garbage is already losing steam. Now,healthcare is coming down the pipeline und ve shall like it! And it all goes back to Bush and his 'careless free spending and he should have seen this crisis coming and oh, the humanity...'As if the new voice of fiscal responsibilty has the face of a jack@$$. Amazing. Blaming new deficits on the previous administration is like saying the bad haircut you have today is because of the guy who cut your hair last Easter. Come on, that's the best you can do? Copyleft has a pair, but they ain't workin' together with his brain. There's a website for factchecking, if you bother to go to it, send the link to Rahmbo, he seems to suffer both short and long term memory loss. Or maybe that's just a gap in his integrity. How about not punishing the many for the failings of a few. And while you're at it, find the part of the Bill of Rights that mentions government's role in healthcare...I can't seem to locate that page...
  • 2010 Elections
2010 elections become more critical every day. Congressional Democrats and Obama need to be sent a message that America is NOT a socialist country. Even though presidents and slackers wants it to be.
  • Copy
y'know, I don't normally agree with anything CopyLeft says, but in this case...he kinda does have a point? Why jump down his throat for pointing out the truth? (p.s. I probably won't agree with you again, Copyleft, so don't get too used to this haha)
  • *sigh*
He is absolutely right when he said: healthcare is "the key to our fiscal future."

If you look at the definition of "our" in that statement and realize the "our" he is talking about, would be the beltway crooks that statement couldn't be more accurate.

It is their financial future they are considering, it is dependency upon them that they are counting on.
  • Medical Dictatorship
The same folks who claim it is a constitutional crime to listen to phone calls in Pakistan want to interject themselves as the final authority in your private medical decisions.
  • Copyleft
    Wow! What an intelligent reply.
  • Health Care Rationing
Maybe instead of rationing health procedures to favor the young over the old they could ration them to favor the non-smoker over the smoker, or the non-obese over the obese. Would that be more acceptable?
  • Copyleft
Go blow a goat, you turd.
  • Let's Think for a moment....
Doesn't the government already run two medical type programs - medicade and medicare. Now we have all heard the stories of abuse within both of these programs. So if they can't run these programs correctly, how can you expect them to run a 3rd (Universal Healthcare) medical program correctly?

Get real...the government doesn't run any program effectively or efficiently.

    just my 2 cents...
  • Health Care
How long will it be before we (as a country) have this socialist health care system being pushed through by our elected officials? Not long. And if it does turn out that the old or ill are culled out from health care (because it will be too expensive to provide it)? Has anyone had the thoughts of the movie Logan's Run going through their minds? Let's just implant everyone with the little chip that when you reach that golden age moment, the little chip turns red and you're terminated as a burden to society.
  • Obamaland
As I sit here in north Chicago I realize that if we could've taken every American voter on a field trip to Obama's old district to see just what a great job was done for the people here,we would be complaining about President McCain right now...McCain's a good deal older and slower.. I don't think he could've offered the final blow to our economy quite as fast.
  • crooked chicago politics
should we be surprised that a thug from the chicago mafia would strong arm his way to force americans into things they dont want?

Someone PLEASE resurrect the founding fathers and let them weigh in on this garbge.. SOCIALISM IS UNAMERICAN.
  • History repeat or rewrite?
"he won by sending his cohorts to the courthouses"
Right, like the GOP did in 2000. Scandalous!
  • surprised?yeah right
Does any of this suprise anybody with an I.Q. over 6? There are millions of abortions bought and paid for by our gov. every year so the refusal of a life saving procedure to an unworthy citizen should not suprise anyone. If Obama can sanction the murder of inocent babies with no regrets then whats a few old farts to him. I guess that decision is no longer above his pay grade. The sooner they are dead the sooner the gov. can collect the death tax and fund the progressive ideals. He's got less than 2 years to cement his agenda in place before there is a chance to vote in people to stop it.
  • Wrong
Health care rationing does not favor the young, strong, and healthy just because they're in a better position to live longer and "accomplish" more. Let's reconsider that from the government's business standpoint.

Their care costs will be less expensive-- and they will likely produce more tax revenues over time for the government to collect.

Old folks and invalids are likely retired or otherwise unable to work and pay taxes, and represent cost drains to the system which must be limited in some way. Denial of necessary procedures which would have been performed under a private system is how you eliminate these costs. So much for "universal healthcare" meaning everyone would receive necessary care and treatment.

I dread the thought of transitioning to "universal healthcare" over the next decades while our government grapples with working out all the kinks. Look at social security for a preview.
  • liars
Commenting on the situation is Rahm Emmanuel. It doesn't geta whole lot worse than this, "First, this is a $1.7 trillion deficit he inherited. Let's be clear about that. We inherited this deficit and we inherited $4 trillion of new debt," Emanuel said. "That is the facts."

Obama may have inherited a deficit, but they surely did not inherit $4 Trillion of new debt. It is scary to me that such a high status politician would make a statement like this. It is a pure lie. Obama and his communist cronies did not have to introduce $4 trillion in new debt, but they are. It is new debt - it is on Obama's watch. Emmanuel, get your facts straight. Quit being a slave to socialist ideology.
Obama, Emmanuel, and the rest know what they're doing. They know better, but they would rather have power. They would rather create false perceptions for masses of people who will never find out what the real truth is. They will continue to misguide those who benefit from their handouts. They will continue to pursue power over the people.
  • Copyleft, It does not matter what Bush did..
Obama was going to bring change to Washington. A new day for politics. No more behind close doors crap. He was going to be difference than those that come before him. Of course I knew nothing would change, I did not buy into the audacity of BS. And just for the record I did not vote for Bush or McCain.
  • socialism
I hate to say it, but the best way to survive in a system that punishes achievement is to not achieve. It certainly doesn't pay to work hard.
  • DEVIOUS?
Wow, that's a funny one, Neal... considering that Reagan, Bush 1, Clinton, AND Bush 2 all used the very same tactics to ram through their favored legislation whenever they had a slight majority in the Senate.

Oh, the hypocrisy... you'd be in trouble if your listeners weren't so thankfully ignorant.
  • medical tourism and socialized medicine
Well since those of us who have recovered from our government education knew that Socialized medicine is coming down the pike, it looks like I will have to start looking up the website for "Planet Hospital" for my medical procedures.
