I just want to give you a quote, and then let you stew for a minute on which politician would have the gonads to say such a thing. Are ya ready?

"If I'm corrupt, it's because I take care of my district."

Princess Nancy? Slobbering Barney? Here's your answer ....

What others are saying

  • Stan Glenn
Your comment made no sense but your BDS is showing. Get over it.
  • Murtha
Great pic of Murtha to go along with the quote....

    http://randrreview.blogspot.com/
  • Murtha's just another in the long list of corrupt...
democrat hacks. "Cold-cash" Jefferson, Alcie Hastings, Harry Reid, Tim Geithner, etc. etc. etc.

So tell us something we don't know.
  • Murtha
Can the Marines reactive him and send him to Afghanistan on a very, very, very solo long range patrol.
  • What a shock
Murtha might have been the one dumb and arrogant enough to say this but with the caliber of people that populate our congress today I would guess that about 90% of our representatives feel this way. This sentiment clearly explains the runaway pork spending by both parties.
  • Murtha
Aren't our congressmen supposed to take care of their district...That's why we have the Senate, you know to look after the State's interests. Oh wait, there's that pesky direct election of Senators again.
  • That guy spent more time in the military than Bush did. So imagine how corrupt Bush was. Oh wait, we know that.
  • broken clock
Even a broken clock is right twice a day. I'd agree that a congresscritter's job is to work for the interest of his district. You can argue both sides- bringing back money from the feds for local projects, or is it better for the country as a whole and eventually the local district to rein in the earmarks. I tend to believe the latter...

But Murtha is still the worst sort of slime. ;-)
  • Tough call
99% of the politicians in D.C. could have said that one. The better question would be: Which politician would NEVER say that?

Tom Coburn is one of the few I can think of. Maybe Ron Paul too.
  • not fair
That quote could have been made by any number of Democrats caught with their hands in the cookie jar.
  • The next Robert Byrd?
Okay, it was a short article but even with that it mentions two projects named after Murtha (and paid for by us taxpayers). Is his district going to turn into West Virginia Lite. (For those who haven't been to WV, you can't drive five miles without finding something named after Robert Byrd.)
