FAIRNESS?? A TAX CODE BASED ON FAIRNESS?

Ya don't say. But you knew what you were getting into when you voted for this guy. The American Idol, Entertainment Tonight, People Magazine YouTube crowd knowingly voted for a man who campaigned on the idea of our tax code being based on "fairness." Or on "neighborliness." Or "spreading the wealth around." And it looks like Obama's Treasury Secretary is of the same mindset.

Yesterday, administration officials had to defend Barack Obama's budget. This is the same budget that bill spend an initial $634 million on healthcare reform, which is to be paid for by increasing taxes on evil, filthy, rich monsters. Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner said that Obama's budget reflects "a deep moral imperative to make our society more just. But it's very good economic policy too. It will mean there is again a fairer, more equitably shared tax burden on the vast majority of Americans."

Excuse me, but what in the hell is this tax cheat talking about? "More Just?" Geithner and Obama are absolutely dependent on the ignorance of the American people here. They know that most Americans have no idea in the word who pays what in taxes. No idea. Not a smattering. None. This is by design. After all ... these people were educated in government-operated schools. It is by design that the American people are so economically ignorant .. not by mistake. Just take the top 1% of income earners. Even members of congress can't tell you what percentage of the total income they earn. I can, and in a second you will be able to as well. The top 1% of taxpayers - income earners - however you want to phrase it - earn about 20% of the income. Remember, they provide the bulk of the jobs out there also. How much of the income taxes do they pay? That would be 40%. So here is this anti-capitalist president of ours and his tax-cheat Treasury Secretary telling us that this just isn't fair, and that for our tax code to be more fair these rich monsters just have to pay a larger share.

And what about this phrase about a "more equitably shared tax burden" ... What is so "equitable" or "shared" about taxing the pants off of the achievers and giving welfare checks to people who pay no taxes at all? Year after year the proportion of the tax burden on the evil rich increases, and year after year these Democrat tax demagogues talk more about "fairness" and "shared tax burdens." When the bottom 50% of income earners in this country barely pay enough taxes to pave one country road, the burden is not being equitably shared.

Oh but this plan is going to the "vast majority of Americans." Who isn't it going to help? Those people at the top. Your employer. The small business owner who writes your paycheck every month. Those are the people that will not get to share in the joy of an "equitable" tax system.

What others are saying

  • Time to repeat it........
    I still stand by my assertion that the evil "rich" should stand down for a couple of years, accept 100 K for 2 years as a salary.

    Wouldn't take long for the Gvt. to come to the lower income folks for more taxes.

    After the Fed. is duly beaten, your salaries could rise back up, even could be in your contract, you were doing this to "jump" start Americas economy.
  • Yeah, you're right again Copy
    Some of us don't need help - I'm one of the Lucky ones. Here's what happened. I'm sitting at the table one morning, many years ago, shaking some Cap'n Crunch out of the box for a low nutrition yet very tasty breakfast, when all of a sudden a BSEE comes tumbling out of the box! Imagine my surprise! How could this be? Then, as I prepared to chase down the Crunch with a couple of donuts, there was a lucrative job offer, sitting right there on top of a luscious jelly donut when I lifted the cover of the donut box. Oh lucky lucky me!! So off I went to my new job, and miraculously, even had the knowledge to understand and perform the work, so I fit right in from day one!
    Now I'm way up here where I don't need help, and I cannot figure out how to Give Back.
    Please Copy, how do I Give Back for all of the good fortune I've received.
    What should I do to Give Back to the Community for all that it's done for me?

    What's that you say? For starters, pay more taxes? OKAY! Gosh, thanks Copy - I feel much better now.
  • The rich as a Dem piggy bank
    Why are we surprised? They are doing that to the tobacco industry, taxing them to nose-bleed levels. Why? To fund childrens health care. With decline tobacco use, its only a matter of time when they will need to find another vein to tap.

    The process:
    Make an industry segment look like pure evil.
    It's easier for the masses to accept the added tax. Who doesn't want to tax evil?

    We're now seeing it with the 'rich'.
  • Tax cheats
    Hey, If all the rich liberals that have been cheating on their taxes for the past 4-7 years paid up, maybe we wouldn't need to make the system more "fair".
  • They know...
    I talk to people every day (some of them are family) that know the wealthier people pay a higher percentage. They also feel that it is the duty of the wealthy to pay more because they can. It makes my blood boil.
  • In reference to seccession
    We better hurry up and do it. With the new factories being built in the South, there are yankees poring in right now. Back in the 30s and 40s white trash left the South in droves to join unions and work in the rust belt. Now that they have screwed the pooch up there, their grandchildren want to come back here and recreate their "worker's utopia". (I would let North Carolina stay in the North)
  • SMILE ?!
    Robin - You seem like a very nice lady. You say you have a business. I don't know what your political ideals are nor do you know mine nor do we know each others financial situation. Me? not 'wealthy' in terms of dollars by any stretch, but if I were you I'd be crazy livid. This is probably THE most critical time in the history of this country. You write "We all have to cut back and poor folk are used to it." Used to it? USED TO IT? What does that mean? This is all about "the poor people"! They're the ones getting taxpayer welfare. They're the ones getting food stamps buying filet mignon with them. They're the ones living in subsidised "affordable housing". And Obama wants to give them more, like healthcare. How the bejeezez is that cutting back? The only ones cutting back are the working class and those that have lost jobs or lost hours from jobs from cutbacks. The entire world economy is on the brink of total failure, we are on a fast track to complete socialism, and our new 'president' is adding just as much fuel to the fire as he and his cronies can to ensure this republic goes down in flames. The only deep breaths I take is a giant sigh when I hear yet another stupid move on the part of our criminal government. And I hate to tell ya, but things will NOT be okay if Obama has his way.
  • Rep. Karl Marx, indeed!
    "Fair," "equitable" and "just"? Only in the sense that "From each according to his ability, to each according to his need" would be "fair," "equitable" and "just."

    That's a cheap shot, and too easy a comment, and yet I think that's precisely the mentality at work here.
  • I don't fault them for not paying their taxes...
    All these nominees need to do is stand up and say "The Tax Code is too complicated, I honestly didn't know I owed the money" and then say. We are going to work to make it simpler for people to pay their taxes so mistakes like this don't happen in the future. Then all would be forgiven. The fact that the US Tax Code is over 40,000 pages long, no wonder so many nominees didn't pay all their taxes. I bet if I was audited I'd owe taxes too. To the best of my knowledge and in good faith I've paid all that I owe, but I'm sure there is something I should have claimed that I didn't that would make me owe more than I already paid. The Tax Code sucks and they need to fix it, the Democrats just need to own up to it instead of cowering when they screw up. You know if they passed the Fair Tax all of Barack's nominees would have been confirmed because there would be no tax issues to disqualify them.
  • Choir
    "But you knew what you were getting into when you voted for this guy."

    C'mon, Neal. Beating the choir now?

    I'm sure 95% of your readers didn't vote for the man.

    You keep doing that, you know. Not just today. "You guys voted for him." "You dummies." "You deserve what you're getting." Hey, Neal! It's us. Snap out of it. Put the beat stick away.

    As to voters: The half required for Obama to maintain his power and screw the other half is all he needs. He can dance, throw parties, have sex with interns, he's cool to a majority and that's all that's necessary.

    It'll be two terms until he does a Putin on us.
  • Quote by DR. Adrian Rogers
    "You cannot legislate the poor into freedom by legislating the wealthy out of freedom. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that my dear friend, is about the end of any nation. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it."

    ~~~~~ Dr. Adrian Rogers, 1931 - 2005 ~~~~~
  • And by the way...
    "Who isn't it going to help? Those people at the top."
    Gee. I wonder why? Could it be that, since they ARE 'at the top,' they don't actually NEED much help? Naaahhh, that couldn't be it.
  • Fairnes??
    Maybe it is time for all of us folks who make more than $75,000 annually to leave the country. Maybe buy an island in the somewhere near the Caymans. Oh, why $75,000 ... Obama is going to need to lower the threshold to that point to get his cash. Heck he is plotting to remove my deduction for mortgage interest because I itemize.
  • An interesting coincidence
    Boortz is the #1 cheerleader for a radically restructured tax program. Can anyone remember its name?
    I guess the word "FAIR" is only an atrocity when it's used by someone else....
  • BO's Tax plans
    I am at this point done trying to better myself and to improve my families financial situation. If I make more it gets taken away, so I may as well sit back and wait for BO's checks to come in the mail. How about we all don't even file taxes this year, then we can say "well the current Treasury Sec. got a 4 year pass, so I think my 4 year pass will start this year." BO needs to stand up and get rid of Geitner and pressure any elected official who got caught cheating the tax code to leave office. OOPS, he may need to resign himself if we were able to see into his financial background.
  • It just keeps getting better
    Lauren is absolutely right. This guy is better than any comedian. He's a self writing late night show stand up routine. In a related story, this hypocrite actually testified before congress that he was going to relentlessly pursue tax evaders! That takes a very large set.
  • fairtax is the only answer
    this tax system is a gradual move towards a communist distribution system that is centrally controlled by the federal govt.
    The only way we can stop this is with the fairtax. The IRS and using taxes as a reward/punishment system MUST BE STOPPED!
  • re;BD
    I'M WITH YA BRO!!!!The "NEW"south will rise again! Blue states be damned!
  • Questions for Geitner
    Turbo Tax Twerp Geitner should have been asked the following questions:
    (1) Since you are here telling us what tax rates are "fair" and proposing increased tax rates on the "wealthy", I assume you obviously know who pays what in taxes, right? Just to make sure you do know, can you please tell me what percentage of taxes do the Top 1% currently pay? The Top 5%???
    After hearing him stumble and look like a fool when he doesn't know the answer, a follow up question should be:
    (2) Let me get this straight, you are here telling us that the current rates aren't fair, and are charged with responsibility of developing the new rates, and yet you don't even know what people are currently paying????
    RIDICULE, RIDICULE, and ridicule these morons.
    (3) You also just proposed a strict crackdown on wealthy people who have been avoiding taxes by using international tax havens. Is it just me, or do you also find it fairly ridiculous for you Mr. Geitner to be in charge of cracking down on these people when you evaded paying taxes for 4 years????
  • Smile
    Wow. So Robin, you reach some point where you say "OK - I've reached the pinnacle of financial security - it's cruise control from here on out".
    Then, your financial stability starts to crack and erode because of asinine attempts at solutions (see current events), you simply smile, step back, and tell yourself it was a good ride while it lasted.
    I think you're better than that.
  • Fairness?!
    Who the HELL ever decided that the poor shouldn't have to pay ANY taxes? Someone needs to tell the morons in this administration that the poorest in this country are in the top 2% of the wealthiest in the world.
    I think the southern states need to align with texas and seccede! We supply the majority of the military, we have nuclear power and are buildong more, we can drill for oil, and for that matter, invite Alaska to join us. We can tell California and the blue cities that they are welcome to their tax the rich policies and Oh by the way, they can keep their debt too. Base our new country on the Constitution and only allow constructionist judges.
    All the lazy do nothings would bolt for the north, our unemployment would go to nil, and we could tax the ever living crap out of any of the northern visitors to our beaches and golf courses.
    I'll lay big odds that we'd win this round.
    Our motto should be: Don't tread on me!
  • I didn't realize Geitner was a standup comedian
    I swear, he is just THE funniest guy ever! That bit he does about making the tax code more "fair and just" and the part with the "tax cut for 95% of Americans?" Comedy GOLD! He had me snorting my Coke Zero out my nose during lunch!
    I mean, he didn't even need to add the punchline about himself being a tax cheat and a "do as I say, not as I do" Liberal. He should be headlining with Dane Cook and Jeff Dunham!
  • Fairness
    When liberals, or other tyrants / dictators, talk about "Fairness", you'd better grab tightly either your wallet or your Constitutional rights... they're coming to attack one or both of them.
  • "fair?"
    Look by now everyone should have figured out who President Obama really is…a self centered, egotistical, inexperienced, politician. Let’s start with his actions in Baltimore before his inauguration, anyone catch his temper with his snapping at his wife onstage - it was caught live on CSPAN? (Plus he ignored the poor city mayor). Then yesterday he botched the British PM’s visit and insulted a close ally because it did not seem to suite his needs to go out of his way to be more cordial and diplomatic. This guy is a train wreak in the making. He does not care about fairness, only himself.
  • Tax Code
    Under their definition of "fair" we are already there.
    A close friend of mine was telling me about how much he is "getting back" the other day.
    He is excited to be getting back 6500. So I asked some questions.
    How much did you make last year? "Almost 21'000."
    How much was withheld, including SSI Medicare fed & state taxes? "Just over 1600"
    So if you only paid about 1600 how can you get back 6500? Where is the other 4900 coming from? "Umm......."
    I pointed out that because he only earned about 21'000 and has 3 kids I can see him getting that 1600 he paid back, but any more than that is the government taking money from others to give to him.
    I then pointed out that he likes to brag that he makes due with out having to take welfare, yet the 4900 extra the government is sending him is essentially welfare.
    This is all based on the 2008 tax code, and Obama plans to do even more of this.
    I hate to be pessimistic but I see another great depression on the horizon.
  • Tax "Fairness"
    What the government educated fools fail to grasp is that when we, small busniess owners, get slammed with additional taxes; their jobs will be the first place we cut. THEN, they can thank the Messiah for his "Change". We can only HOPE.
  • GA's John Lewis
    Rep. Karl Marx Lewis likes this plan because it makes the tax code fair. Atlanta has got to be proud of this clown
  • Smile
    Daily I hear a bunch of middle aged white guys whining about how important they are, how stupid the 'vast majority' is. All our pensions are being decimated because all the poor people had to be given loans. Hey, for the half million losing jobs monthly, for the medically decimated, etc. we are worried about food and shelter and our keeping our bills paid on time to keep our credit up. We long ago lost our pensions and stocks. I just disconnected my landline and I own a business. We all have to cut back and poor folk are used to it. Your taxes will go up and your stuff will be worth less but you will still have your home and a pension and vacations and time to look down your noses at the rest of us. I guess that is why it is lonely at the top, nobody can stand to hang around with people that are perfect and never made a mistake. Life is hard enough without all that whining. You get used to scaled down life pretty fast but you are going to be emotional about it at first. Take some time to get some balance from all this hysteria and overreacting. Yall are feeding each other's paranoia. Take a breath. Things will be ok.
  • Second most ridiculous thing of the day
    I read this one yesterday, too. First, anything that comes out of Tim Geithner's mouth, I cannot help but think "TAX CHEAT!" every time. He has NO business whatsoever in telling us what to do or what's best for me.
    Second, and more importantly, I love how this administration continues to tell us that the top 5% of income earners are the only ones that will be taxed. And then they turn around and tell us it won't take affect until 2011 or later, because they want the economy to stabilize first. So wait, you're acknowledging that the top 5% of income earners are the ones that help keep this economy running? NEWSFLASH!
  • Spittin' Mad
    If I had one wish, I'd wish for the opportunity to line up every single moron who voted this adminstration in and backhand them one by one.
    WHEW!! Lordy!! That felt good!!
