DOES OBAMA KNOW WHO THE PRESIDENT OF FRANCE IS?

Just a question. You do know that Obama wrote a letter to Jacques Chirac recently. In that letter Obama wrote "I am certain that we will be able to work together, in the coming four years, in a spirit of peace and friendship to build a safer world."

The "coming four years?" Well, it seems that there's a small problem here. Jacques Chirac is not the president of France. That honor goes to Nicolas Sarkozy.

Now if, say, Sarah Palin had done this the press would be full of outrage. Hmmmm. Oh well, read this for yourself.

What others are saying

  • what a Joy!
Admitted your mistake? To your dog? Did you text it to somebody? Or do you mean you admitted that you think Obama screwed it up and is now covering his tracks? Is that what you think passes for admitting your mistake or are you just lying to cover your tracks? Oh wait, it wasn’t a lie if you believed it to be true at the time you said it. So which one are you, Joy: a liar or a dumbass?

You can’t trick us into believing you admitted your mistake just by saying you did. We can see what you wrote, little girl.
  • special olymics
Perhaps DOTUS (the dumb ass of the United States)was tight when he suggested he should be competing in the
special Olympics instead of the big leagues. The dumb masses that voted for him are in for a rude awakening when the dollars they earn are impacted by 3-4 years of double digit inflation. You can no longer create trillions of dollars and run trillion dollar deficits without a bit of inflation.
  • Thanks for the link Aimee,
This was the first I've seen or this, and yes, that's just how hussein and the dp operates, Sarkozy wasn't 'properly' hostile to the Bush Administration. Sarkozy being elected over those that were hostile to the USA contradicted the dp/msm narrative that we were alienating our friends, so the dp is sending him a message in their usual petty and spiteful way. All the protocol slights to come against our staunchest supporters (we won't have to wait long for Uribe to get his 'unofficial' official message), will be innocent and meaningless as well, I'm sure, and they will almost all go one way. But hey, the left can argue something as improbable as al franken's 'recount' stats, this should be no prob.
  • Clarification
In honor of Paul Harvey, here's "the rest of the story":

    http://features.csmonitor.com/politics/2009/03/23/obama-writes-letter-to-chirac-blogosphere-goes-crazy/
  • Why reply to Chirac?
I understand that this is a silly thing to get on Obama about. The real question should be why is he bothering to reply to Chirac? My guess is that because they share a socialist agenda. As long as the government is willing to spend like crazy, Chirac might as well get his hands on taxpayer money too. There is no reason that they should be in communication if Obama is representing himself as the President and Chirac as a private FRENCH citizen.
  • hey Gavin
Speaking of reading before you speak, I already admitted my mistake. I would just love to see you admit when you do HA!!! And I thought Copy would be the little girl giggling and pointing but it turned out to be you!

Don't worry, there will be plenty more to laugh about. 2010 will be sweet.
  • This reminds me of
You know it's funny. Sarah Palin made the statement that you can see Russia from parts of Alaska, which you can. Tina Fey parodies this by saying Palin can see Russia from her front door. Now which version do you think became the truth? Yep the parody. Goes to show you how easily the group mind of the left is led. By the way, get off Neal's back. He himself reminds everyone daily to not believe anything until you have checked it out for yourself or it is consistent with what you already KNOW to be true....
  • Now if only they can make a duncecap...
with Obama's image/logo on it for the next Democratic convention. They're laughing at Dimocrats in France as I type this..."c'est pas complique quand meme de savoir qui est le president des francais..Honte au premier president socialiste americain."

Yeah, Obama really set himself up for the upcoming G20. I can hear the laughter already...better make sure the teleptompter runs on european current..
  • He Does Plenty To Himself
Okay, so this was a rumor gone wild. Let's not blow it out of proportion or keep it going. This is a non-story.

Don't worry, however. O does plenty to get himself in hot water without anyone needing to make anything up.

The one thing to take away from this, is that if it had been a conservative, like Sarah Palin, the mainstream media would have been all over it before the correction came out, and it would have grown a life of its own.

  • more to the story
First of all Im as far right as you can get; as far away from Obama's views as possible. That being said it is these kinds of stories that make it hard to believe what you read whether it be left or right. Does anyone actually believe that Obama doesn't know who the President of France is? It seems like the end of the article from the UK explains this gaffe completely therefore this jibberish about Obama thinking Chirac is the President is ridiculous. I expect more out of this site but oh well.
  • Evidence of what?
I'm convinced there's a psychiatric ward somewhere with a great internet connection full of lunatic righties posting the drivel we see here. Just one big roomful of drooling idiots. Can't you people find something more productive to do like break into the medicine cabinet and self medicate? Say hi to Dick!
  • Actually Copyleft...
It only makes YOU look stupid, not him. You have no intelligent input into anything, other than drooling on your keyboard on a regular basis. Thanks for the entertainment.
  • Of course he knows...
Everything that Presbo does that looks inept, insane or incompetent is really just something intelligent that he did on purpose and we're not smart enough to know why. Obama and mistake or ignorance in the same sentence? Seriously... he is the messiah after all.
  • nice "reporting" Boortz
Way to get the story wrong, Neal. Guess this kinda undermines your hypothetical media bias theory, eh? Here's a thought: either don't allow people with access to the truth to post here or stop making up stories that are designed to do nothing more than cash paychecks for yourself. I mean, I get it, you gotta make a living and the easiest way to do that on talk radio is to pander to weak minded righties who aren't interested in the truth, they just want to walk around in a stupor pretending "Rush is right."

Nice attempt to play the victim card though. If Sarah said it.....wah wah wah.

hey Joyce, I hope your parachute opened after diving off that cliff with Neal. Geronimo! You must feel pretty stupid for putting your blind trust in an entertainer. LOL.
  • Ok, this time
I wonder if the "next four years" was accurate? Maybe Obama knows his time is limited.
yeah Copy makes me sick too and I'm sure he's enjoying this like a little girl
  • As much as I think he's a clown and the worst thing ever for this country...
We can't hang this one on PBO. His letter was clearly replying to a letter he received from Chirac, not the initial contact that it's being portrayed as. Let's get back to ripping him up for all the stupid stuff that he really is doing, not this unsubstantiated stuff.
  • The teleprompter did it.....
at least that's the word on the Hill today.

How much longer can the left defend him despite the ever-mounting evidence?
  • When People read only what they want
I wrote this yesterday: The following headline caught my attention: 'Obama Snubs French President; Seeks to Work With Predecessor'. This was written today, by Mark Ipomeni of AOL News.

If one were to reflect on the headline, one would assume that President Obama picked up his pen and said to himself: 'I think I'm going to write to Jacques Chirac, just so I can annoy and undermine President Sarkozy'. So, you'd hope that by reading further into the article, there would be some clarification. more here http://www.examiner.com/x-2086-NY-Foreign-Policy-Examiner~y2009m3d23-Foreign-Policy-why-is-Obama-writing-to-Jacques-Chirac
  • OBummer and the Pres of France
People said that GW Bush was dumb but Pres OBummer is starting to make him look a rocket scientist. I'll bet W knows who the pres of France is...
  • I am appalled
Evidently someone is stealing all of the erudite (and puerile) snarky posts here today, and posting them all about the internet. Some of the posts here are identical word for word. (What's that? You say that the identical posts apperaed first elsewhere? Surely not.)

We have local letters-to-the-editor writers who also glean their thoughts elsewhere, then foist them off as their own.

You must be so proud, Neal. Your listeners post it here, then the bloggers steal it and post it as their own.
  • @ John
    That was funny!
  • True Colors
Now, now, myrmidons-not to worry! It seems Neal has replaced his original link (that explained the truth) with a link to a story that supports his lie of convenience. Of course, now he'll have to change that one as well..from his 2nd link:

"But wait. The now online-only Christian Science Monitor reports that Obama was simply replying to a letter from Chirac "who was writing him as the head of his foundation - the Jacques Chirac Foundation for sustainable development and cultural dialogue".

Perhaps the hair-trigger settings of the Obama gaffe detectors are leading to a few shots going wide of the mark. "
  • Chirac is a leftist, and Sarkozy is what passes for Right wink in France.
He's probably just Dissing Sarkozy, and showing he's a Chirac kind of man.

It's no problem with hussein that Chirac and his buddies were making money, breaking the UN sanctions, stealing food and medicine from Iraqi children, while blaming the USA for their suffering.
  • News worthy?
I'm sure no friend of Obama, but I have to say this story reeks of a slow news day...do you really think he writes his own letters? He's got people for that. He probably found out he wrote this the same time the rest of us did. It does speak to the caliber of people he surrounds himself with though.
  • Letter to Chirac
The teleprompter forgot to tell him Chirac was no longer President of France.
  • It is not unheard of for presidents to write former heads of state
I wonder how many heads of state have contacted President Clinton or President G. H. W. Bush regarding their foundations? Could it be that Obama did the same thing to Chirac? I'd like to know the facts, not speculation. What was the nature of the letter?
  • C'mon folks
Those of you that have seen my posts know that I despise OBozo as much as the next guy but there's no point in trying to hang him on this one. There's absolutely no proof that he wrote to 'President Chirac'
Copyleft still makes me sick tho'.
  • go with what you know
His teleprompter apparently doesn't dictate letters for him.
  • Always do your homework
I heard this and it sounded fishy - too good to be true - so I did what Neal preaches - do your homework.

I tracked it down to Le Figaro, and in the "rumors" section, it talked about this. But the truth came out that the letter to Chirac was regarding his capacity as head of the Chirac Foundation, not as president of France.

So, it started as a rumor and got blown out of proportion by some over-eager right wingers who are apt to believe anything they read against Obama and the Democrats.

Yes, the left does it, too, but that's not an excuse to act like them.
  • Maybe he just took all of Bush's official state letters and changed the date and the name at the bottom.

Regardless he is making us all look like fools in the international arena.
  • Let's see who's too lazy to read
How many commenters will pile on the declaration that "Obama thinks Chirac is president of France!" without actually READING the article Boortz linked?

The article that makes it clear Obama made no such error. The article that tells how Obama wrote a letter in REPLY to Chirac. The article exposing the original smear job for what it was: an incompetent attempt to find SOMETHING to make Obama look stupid.
  • Joe
Why would he write a former president? Even in response to an earlier letter. The guy is out of office, doesn't that make anything he wrote moot? Or at least copy the current Prez so he doesn't thing they are going over his head. No I think O screwed up and is trying to wriggle out of it.
  • additionally
There is always someone that will want to twist the real story.
  • As much as I would like for this to be true
It is not. Well, it is, but the Christian Science Monitor has the explanation.
"With his help we found out that another French newspaper, the New Observer, explained that Obama was merely replying to a Chirac letter who was writing him as the head of his foundation — the Jacques Chirac Foundation for sustainable development and cultural dialogue.

The foundation is promoting access to water and medicines in west Africa, combating deforestation in the Congo Basin, and trying to save dying languages in Polynesia, according to a spokesman who helped set up the foundation."

  • Re: Chirac - Sarkozy
Didn't Chirac leave office long before Obama replaced George Bush?
  • Camp White House
It's like camp, and it's all make believe.

You've got pirate ships and tree forts and refrigerator boxes converted into bunkers and the beach is being stormed.

And you put on a tie and people flash lights in your face and you're "PRESS SECRETARY!" Wow! This is so much fun. Um. Um. Uh. Ummm.

Screw those kids down at the pond. We're playing White House now.

And you have to have parties. All the real important people have parties. And you invite all your friends, and you drink, and you do your groove thing. Because that's what stylish and important poeple do. Like Paris Hilton. But for pretend. Ooh, ooh, make sure Puff Daddy and Bobbie Brown are on the invite list. Keeping it real, baby. Because that's what important people do.

And then there is the paperwork. Yay! Lots of paper. Big stacks of paper. Type them all up with words and numbers and yay, make lots of them and then get Kinkos to bind them together, and make it look real important. Big heavy IMPORTANT paper! Yay! And then we vote.

Oh, very important. Vote, vote, vote. Oh, vote fast, my mommie's calling me to dinner. No. Dur. The Pope is calling me to give me an award. Yay! Yay, me! Big paper. Vote! Pope! Yay!

And then we fly on airplanes. Big airplanes. Woosh. We'll go to California. We'll go to Florida. We'll fly Air Force One. No, no, I want a Space Shuttle. And I'll be on the Leno show. He's a funny man. Yay! We're important.

And important people get mad. Like dad, sometimes, when he's drinking. Grrr. I'M SO MAD! DO WHAT I SAY! I'M IN CHARGE NOW! GRRRR! Yay! We're Democrats! Get the pitchforks! We'll show them.

    This is so much fun.

Every day is a special day of sunshine play at Camp White House.

What will tomorrow's big adventure bring?

Good night children, see you tomorrow.
  • Well....DUH!!
He probably sent a similar note to Yasser Arrafat too. Where is Dan Quayle when we need him??
  • "Palinized"
Aimee Kligman pegs this one; Mark Ipomeni has "Palinized" (i.e. the press recreating facts in a story to be critical) this story.
  • Chirac - Sarkozy
I have to call you on this one, Neal. According to the response to the original poster, Obama intended to write former President Chirac as a response to one Chirac wrote while in office.
  • OMG
I'm just never going to France, that's it. Or England. Too embarrassed. Does he not have anyone in his office who should be catching crap like this?
