DEBATE? OH ... IN MY DREAMS

It will never happen, but Rush Limbaugh has challenged President Barack Obama to a debate on his show. What a wonderful hour that would be. Put it on Pay-Per-View and I would pay $500 just to watch it. Let me tell you something .. and of this I am as certain as I am of my own name ... and I'll put this in a box in big bold letters so that there will be no doubt how I believe this great debate would turn out ...

A Rush Limbaugh / Barack Obama debate; one-on-one, mano-a-mano, would be the most profoundly embarrassing moment of Barack Obama's life. There is no way in the world that Obama could stay in the same intellectual ring with Limbaugh .. NO WAY. Obama would be exposed as a stuttering, stammering, mipping and mupping intellectual lightweight. By the way ... he knows it.

Lordy, I would so love to see that happen. But, as my father told me, "People in hell want ice water."

What others are saying

  • sigh...
to Red Leader: a dictator with term limits? interesting concept..... Please pick a better buzz word next time. That one's tired.

to Gavin: Why would one pander to a non-majority? My point was that his decisions were unpopular. Empty suits don't defy their advisers, which makes your point moot. Bad decisions are OK with me because officials can be voted out or have term limits. I never defended his policies or his balls. YOU added those gems. But since you love our current president so much, ask yourself this: Why did Obama wait to see the public's reaction to AIG, and then speak out on that subject? That's what we have senators for Mr. President. Let THEM be outraged....since THEY don't do anything wrong.

to Lent: The hatred is seeping through your pores. That's evident from the first 4 words of your post. Obama has proven to me that he feels threatened by talk radio. "Scumbags", "bigotry", and "ignorance" shouldn't strike fear in a president. He should be above that as this country's new leader. It's a shame he mentioned Rush and Hannity by name. In effect, he is saying that CNN should be the only source for news, and dissenting points of view must be delt with and crushed. For crying out loud Lent, your Messiah is afraid of someone's opinion!! Do I need to repeat that for you? I hope not.
But Lent, you go ahead and keep getting all your information from one source with one agenda. Hitler's Germany did that too and that worked out well, huh?
I'm happy for you though Lent, because you can show your ignorant rage for anything you like, as a US citizen. In some countries that might be a nightstick to the face and no one ever hearing from you again. Soak that in for a minute...
  • Nutty...
So ultimately you are saying you are fine with a dictator? Someone who knows what people want then proceeds to make decisions contrary to that and then say he doesn't care what people want or think. Its amazing that the GOP for some time know has refered to that dictator type behavior as 'leadership'. We need REAL conservatives who actually can read the constitution and follow it.
  • wow
Limbaugh is a scumbag and a moron, with absolutely no cognitive or even argumentative ability. The only way he could win such an argument is to shout louder or start sputtering nonsense.

That said, I would be greatly disappointed if Obama helped to support such bigotry and ignorance by appearing on his show. Obama did already appear on O'Reilly's show, but he's more focused on purely belligerent stupidity than outright hatred (fueled by said stupidity). It was rather uninteresting, though, as all O'Reilly did was yell and repeat himself, and you could almost see him covering his ears and yelling NANANANAN while Obama spoke, and then of course made up some nice guy routine stuff.

Obama's only problem is he doesn't want to offend the Republicans, which he really needs to stop worrying about. However, Rush's nonsense is so ridiculous I don't think it would really be an issue.

Also, this idea that Obama is overly reliant on a teleprompter seems to have minimal basis in fact. He's spoken publicly numerous times where he definitely didn't have one, and did fine.

I'm actually kind of astounded that people actually consider Rush Limbaugh at all intelligent. I mean, there are intelligent Republicans, but Rush Limbaugh? He's incredibly stupid, and I don't think he even pretends otherwise. He's a failed sports reporter who realized he could have a job in fanning ignorance, nothing more.
  • re: Gavin, please...
I was referring to Obama's predecessors. Read the post. To some extent or another, all Presidents -- all good leaders -- are counting on their advisers, which is all I take from the phrase empty suit. But if you want to call it pandering then I have some news for you: they all do that, too.

Bush pandered to Mexican-American voters by not taking the stand I expected out of him. The simple, direct, post 911 stand of stopping illegal aliens from traveling across our borders at will. Where were those balls you so admire when it came to that voting block?

How about his bizarre attempt to sell port security to a Saudi company? That should replace the definition of pandering in the dictionary.

How about the way he waited until the day after the mid-term election to fire Rumsfeld? Pandering to the party in power. Too bad your "Decider" didn't have the foresight to can Rumsfeld when it could have made a difference to his party.

But you're good with all of this so long as he doesn't do what exactly? Talk to his advisers?
  • not going to happen
As much as I would like to see that debate, it won't happen. Obama got elected president after debating the issues with McCain. Never mind that McCain is a senile idiot who is far from being a champion of small government. In the mindset of many Americans, Obama already won that debate, and no president is going to debate a talk show host.

Although, I do hope for a miracle to happen to convince Obama to debate Rush. Republicans could sell that idea by saying it might increase "bipartisan" support for his agenda.
  • Obama will never do it
because he is incompetant not stupid....He would look stupid if he did it and to him all that matters is appearance not substance.
  • Dreaming?
A debate of this nature would be pointless, unless the definition of the term "win" is declared from the outset. Regardless of each participants ability to successfully argue a case, popular opinion will not be overcome. I think that the discrepancy between support for Obama and support for his policies are indicative of this. In essence, no matter how successful Limbaugh argues his point, Obama remains such a "nice guy". This fact alone offers a clue as to which side is dreaming. The point is, you cannot successfully argue a case logically with anyone whose reason is guided by emotion.
  • Empty Suits
Sure, Gavin. In addition to Obama, Clinton and Carter are the most recent empty suits that come to mind--everyone knows that. The suckers you are referring to are the people who voted for them, right?
  • I think
it would be an opportune time for BOplenty to prove himself to those of us that did not vote for him and those that have already lost faith in him.

    HAAAAHAHAHAAAAAHAHAHAHAAAAHAAAA!!!!
  • Gavin, please.....
If you are referring to Dubya, I would argue that his popularity reflects someone who makes decisions on their own....right or wrong as they may be. This is OK with me, as opposed to an "empty suit" who panders to the whim of an uneducated or ill-informed populace.
  • empty suit
I'd say he's as much an empty suit as his predecessors. Are you sucker enough to believe otherwise, smooth operator?
  • Obama the "President" Entertainer
Gavin typed:"the current President is supposed to focus his time and energy on some meaningless, topicless debate with an entertainer?"

And Obama isn't an empty suit hooked up to a teleprompter?
  • Sock Monkey
Hey, I had an ORIGINAL sock monkey. Obama is NO sock monkey.....LOL
  • PrezBO debate
"Copy. Detached from his teleprompter, the sock puppet known as Obama would be the stuttering, stammering, hesitating fool that we all know him to be. And the sock puppet's handlers know it."

Or would that be Sock Monkey? Is that PC? Oh well who cares?
  • *sound of bubbling bong water*
Dude! Wait, I got it! What if Rocky fought Rambo? Dude, he would totally wipe the floor with that pansy!

The last President barely held press conferences but the current President is supposed to focus his time and energy on some meaningless, topicless debate with an entertainer? Dude, I'm so wasted!

    Put down the bongs, stoners.
  • Give yourself some credit, Neal
Come on, Neal. Even you could win a debate with Obama.
  • Yea right, dream on.
The dp was chicken to debate on FoxNews, they will be content snipe and ankle bite. That's fine with me, it makes the dp look bad, not Mr. Limbaugh. Never stop an opponent from making a fool of themselves, as someone once said.
  • mano-a mano?
How can a debate be hand to hand?
  • LETS GET READY TO RUUMMMBBLLEE!
What the hell if your gonna fantisize lets make it good.Put on a tag team event with Rush"deGodfather"Limbaugh and Neal"talkmaster"Boortz vs Barack"Telepromptnator"Obama and Barney"justplainugly" Frank.Put up a ring in Vegas(maybe a cage match)with costume wrestling tights for all parties.Pelosi and Ann Coulter could be the "round number"showgirls.Joe Biden could be the fight bell(just wack him in the head,I'm sure it would ring)John McCain would be the ref. since he is despised by both parties. I think the pay-for-view revenues could cover the stimulis package. If not then future match ups might. Maybe even do away with elections all together and replace them with this.
  • Rush vs Obama
I am one of those that can only take so much of Rush.I seldom if ever listen except the first few minutes following my favorite show,The Neal Boortz Show. But,I know that Rush believes in his conservatism with all his being. While Obama is just a shell trying to bumble through and has no real convictions of his beliefs or their consequences.Given that, Rush would always win a debate because he does not have to think about what he should believe.Given Rush's years of experience talking all day,he would be able to run rings around a young man that chooses each word, studders and has no real deep understanding of economic, foreign or leadership issues. But, like Neal said,it would be demeaning to the office for a sitting president to debate a talk show host in an off-election year.Won't happen.
  • McCain? Please. Someone wipe Copyleft's chin
The liberal tools comparing Rush to McCain are way off the mark. McCain is the candidate that the DEMOCRATS (and media) gave to the Republicans. McCain was embarrassing and the only reason many "right-wingers" voted for him was to keep Obama from becoming Teleprompter-in-Chief.

Rush is a much better debater than McCain could ever hope to be.

Hey liberals, remember Obama's debate with O'Reilly? Bill went somewhat easy on him and he still looked inept. With Rush, Obama would not have it quite so easy.

By the way, college education does not equal instant intellect, Hugo. The man [Rish] can argue a point better than most and is richer than God, so I don't think he's hurting too bad without that wonderous, miraculous DEGREE.
  • My kingdom for a debate
What an entertaining evening that would be.

Of course we would have to speed up Obama's parts in order for him to look like he was keeping up.
  • Yeah, sure AWK. Take a look at this..
Your sock puppet, teleprompter candidate in action..... Jon Stewart skewers B. Hussein in this clip....
    http://www.thedailyshow.com/video/index.jhtml?videoId=218356&title=clusterf#@k-to-the-poor-house

    Dream on.
  • awk 829
Awk...the reason Obama soundly and easily defeated Mccain in all 3 debates was because Amnesty Mccain absolutely, outright refused to come out in favor of traditional conservatism and constitutional compliance. Instead he chose to simply argue from a moderate left stand point as opposed to Obama's hard left stand point. Mccain is a neo-conservative not a traditional conservative.Neo conservatism has more to do with the left than traditional conservatism. I guess a lot of people thought it would be cute if a moderate democrat in favor of amnesty, world policing, government expansion and socialist fundamentals(kind of like George W Bush) were to be the republican candidate. Unfortunately us paleo-conservatives weren't and will not be buying that nonsense. Rush will win the debate if he rejects Bush's leftist neo-conservative type ideas in favor of the ideas of Jefferson, and people like Ron Paul and Gary Johnson. Rush can win if he embraces the constitution, which Obama will not do. If Rush argues from a neo-consevative perspective, he will lose outright.
  • DEBATE
I just told the daily kos to begin a petion and have all the masses of asses sign up to demand that Limbaugh and Pebo have a debate. How about that comrades.
  • CopyLeft
    LOL.....What? Obama what?....

"...cool calm and mastery of basic facts and logic..."

LOL...LMAO...Ooops, I think I just did something involuntary...

    GTG check meeself!

    Thanks for the laugh Copy!
  • Break out the drool cup for Copy
Copy wrote "a seasoned intellectual in the face of Obama, whose cool calm and mastery of basic facts and logic."

    Barf bag, please.

I don't think so, Copy. Detached from his teleprompter, the sock puppet known as Obama would be the stuttering, stammering, hesitating fool that we all know him to be. And the sock puppet's handlers know it.
  • ANYWHERE!!!!
Not only did Rush say he would do it anywhere, he also said HE (Rush) would PAY FOR IT HIMSELF! With no taxpayer funding! So now the ball would be in Obamas court, but, now all of a sudden Obama is quiet about mentioning Rush's name. Funny how that happens...
  • Hey Copy
How nice that you would bring up Rush's former addiction , while conveniently leaving out Obambi's own admitted affection for "Blow" and pot. Not to mention the cigarettes that he's stinkin' up the oval office with.

You are the one fantasizing BTW..rush did 1 hour speech off the top of his head with NO TELEPROMPTER!! Obama supposedly wrote his own speech yet had to use a teleprompter just to get through it.

BTW..Obama must've felt threatend by Rush or else HE wouldn't have started this whole mess in the first place. Talk about insecurity and ineptitude, but it is rather sad when the leader of the free world feels it's necessary to attack a piddly lil ol' radio host.
  • Outcome is predictable
Easy win for Rush. That's the only way to describe such a debate.
  • Do it on C-Span and we'll be impressed
Of course Rush wants Obama on his show -- that way he has an already-biased audience primed to be receptive to his message and completely dismiss anything his opponent says. It's a very clear and obvious tactic to pull his opponent into a hostile environment and put him up as a puppet for his hard-right listeners to ridicule.

If he really wanted to show Obama up, he'd offer to set up a debate live on C-Span or a similar public affairs channel with no inherent leaning one way or the other, and far more exposure than his radio audience. Let the rest of America see Rush's arguments in the light of day instead of his nice, cozy little cave.

But then, the reason he won't do that is the same reason he'll never run for office despite all his blowhard, windbag grandstanding: He's fully aware that if people that weren't already extreme right were exposed to his views, he'd be laughed right out of existence.
  • false bravado? Josh M.
FYI, Rush said he would do it ANYWHERE!
  • Obama would win
I think President Obama should accept the challenge for the following reasons: first, he would win the debate (just as he easily defetaed McCain in all 3 presidential debates, teleprompter-free, unless you go by the polls of the unscientific insta-polls of Fox News viewers).

Second, if Rush were selected to represent the republican party in this debate, it would help to cement Rush as the embodiment and de facto head of the republican party. Ths may help the republicans with their ever-shrinking base of rural less-educated bitter white males in the bible states who form their opinions on the basis of what talk show hosts tell them. But it would hurt the republican party's image with everyone else.
  • If your aunt had balls
    she'd be your uncle.
  • false bravado
If Rush were truly interested in a debate, he'd offer to do it on PBS, C-Span, etc. - somewhere other than his own show.
  • Copyleft...
If you could, please explain this....how do you hand out 800 billion when you are 10 trillion in debt? Where does the 800 billion come from?
  • Copy is dreaming
Wake up boy, without a teleprompter Obama couldn't muster up more than two coherent sentences and you know it! Who you trying to convince? Yourself?

    It would be awesome.
  • Right, Neal
I'm sure the college dropout and former drug addict would wipe the floor with the Harvard educated lawyer who did just fine debating John McCain. You are just kissing Rush's ample behind because you know he reads your notes. Give it up, Neal-you will always be a second tier talk show host. No amount of Rush's butt sweat on your lips will change that.
  • Neal and debating!
    Neal,
Maybe you could have a pay-for-view prime-time debate with a college graduate from Texas A&M,about what each of you learned at college!
Then you could debate some of the soldiers, marines, sailors or airman who served in the Vietnam War!
  • Rush would win if...
....he sticks with traditional Ron Paul,Calvin Coolidge type conservatism and the idea constitutional compliance and small governement. If Rush during the debate were to start dabbling in neo-con 'police the planet' type mysticism then would it be relatively easy for Obama to poke holes in Rush's arguements and ideas.
  • And here's MY prediction
Limbaugh would bluster and whine and interrupt and TRY to look like a seasoned intellectual in the face of Obama, whose cool calm and mastery of basic facts and logic would reduce Limbaugh to blubbering ranting and Vicondin-induced hysteria.

Wasn't that FUN? Got any other fantasies you'd like to spin about imaginary circumstances that won't happen?

Keep living in that imaginary world, right-wingers... it's the only place where you can claim victory over the grownups.
  • $500 Pay Per View
I think that at $500 a pop, there would be enough money for that "Stimulus 2" Pelosi's been spinning her wheels about.
