The Obama administration is ironing out the details of his plans to increase government oversight of executive pay. I'm not just talking about the top TARP recipients .. I am talking about all banks, Wall Street firms and possibly other companies.

The New York Times reports ...

Officials said the proposal would seek a broad new role for the Federal Reserve to oversee large companies, including major hedge funds, whose problems could pose risks to the entire financial system.

It will propose that many kinds of derivatives and other exotic financial instruments that contributed to the crisis be traded on exchanges or through clearinghouses so they are more transparent and can be more tightly regulated. And to protect consumers, it will call for federal standards for mortgage lenders beyond what the Federal Reserve adopted last year, as well as more aggressive enforcement of the mortgage rules.

The officials said that the administration was still debating the details of its plan, including how broadly it should be applied and how far it could go beyond simple reporting requirements. Depending on the outcome of the discussions, the administration could seek to put the changes into effect through regulations rather than through legislation.

One proposal could impose greater requirements on company boards to tie executive compensation more closely to corporate performance and to take other steps to ensure that compensation was aligned with the financial interest of the company.

What others are saying

  • the FED????
Another example of the Obama Administration putting the people who made the mess in charge of cleaning it up. Read the book Meltdown by Thomas Woods and tell me if you think the Fed knows their butt from a hole in the ground.

And to Kirby who asked "Who's next?" You can be it won't be any athletes or performers who openly support the Dems.
  • Undone?
It's funny. I remember when my dad was talking about how President Obama wouldn't be that bad for the country he always said, "America is big...One man can't do that much damage."

Just to make a point I'd always remind him that Stalin was one man and he had a much larger land mass.

I mention that because I was, at the time, just trying to prove a point. But now I am wondering if we are even getting to the point where this can be undone? So much permanent damage has been wrought on the country, and it's only been two months. This is Roosevelt taken too far. It's worrisome. One man and 500 others in Congress really can do that much damage.
  • Head Hunters
Foreign Head Hunters have come to America to recruit all those afraid of losing their $500K+ salaries. Thar ya have it.
  • Business/Attorney opportunity ahead
    Watch Executives become Consultants...
  • Hey Laughing!
That's a great idea, and for any "Present" votes they get time taken away! Oh well, it's a dream.

Dee, you'll probably be sorry you asked but it stands for Bend Over Here It Comes Again.....

Bend Over Here It Comes Again
  • Limiting "Exec" Pay
    Idea:
Let's limit all Representatives pay to an hourly rate for time ACTUALLY worked.
... Hit the punch clock on the way in and hit the punch clock on the way out. The pay is calculated the same as all other employees on an hourly scale.
You don't report for your job, you're not paid. You don't show and perform, you are FIRED!
Maybe we can get some things done correct and legal.
  • merit pay
I like this idwa of pay for performance. All the ball players on the losing teams play for free?? Our movie stars don't get paid unless the movie makes a mint?? Or Congress doesn't get paid until they balance the budget? Sec of treasury doesn't get paid unless the GDP goes up?? Our teachers don't get paid until all our graduates learn how to read?? This could be very interesting.

  • this isn't socialism
It is fascism. Time to seriously think about how we get some regime change going in this country while there is still a country left. We can completely replace the House and a third of the Senate in 2010...clean sweep...don't vote against Dems or Reps..vote against Incumbants....all of them. Then in 2012...do it again.
  • This will only hasten the departure...
...of our best and brightest to other countries. Leaving idiots like Geithner and Obama to run things.
  • Executive Pay
I keep saying, if we were willing to pay more for President of The United States we would get better candidates.
  • Executive Compensation
I have an employee who says that CEO's should only be allowed to make a multiple of the lowest paid employee. So, let's run with that based on skills.

Maybe the janitor is the lowest paid employee. So surely the CEO knows that skill, but also has to manage several janitors, so give him the multiple of the janitor's salary. Now compare him to the janitor, does the janitor do other things? Probably not but the CEO must to effectively run his company.

So let's give him multiples of the other areas he must be expert; Advertising, Public Relations, Finance, International Banking, Real Estate, International Culture, International Trade, Law, Tax Code, Labor Relations, Human Resources, etc. You get the picture.

If you paid him on skills and let's not forget overtime, he'd probably make more than what his company could afford to pay him. Congress and President Obama probably wouldn't be experienced even in one.
  • BOHICA
Limit executive pay? Could one of the mental midgets in the Obama Regime please explain who will pay the taxes that will not be collected if pay is limited?
  • Wanna know where this ends?
It end up with DC telling you how many squares of toilet paper you can use and putting Sheryl Crow in charge of TP conservation. They will probably outlaw deodorant as environmentally unfriendly and/or a health hazard and that should help cover up the feces smell.

People like to whine about the GOP in their bedroom, but there is NO PLACE the dp won't go.
  • Does "so called talent" really cost a fortune?
How did executives manage to run large corporations before the 1990s? Before these ridiculous "let's pay 10's or 100's of millions" levels of compensation became the norm. Before the 1990s executives actually were held accountable for their decision making, and how their companies performed. Sure they got fat paychecks, but not at the outrageous levels that we see today. I am sure that there are thousands of "talented" executives that could run a company such as AIG or Citigroup, for say, a million dollars in total annual compensation. What happened to the days where executives actually got fired, sans bonus, for bad decision making.

Executive talent is something that is sorely lacking in a lot of the Wall Street companies these days. Just look at your 401K, especially the financial sector, for proof.
  • Who's next?

Smells like even more Government....Socialism at it finest.
