The federal government has decided that it wants to play a role in how you cope with the financial crisis. In fact, it is so concerned about your mental health that a website has been launched to warn people about sadness and crying over the economy.

This has been coming for a while, all they needed was an excuse. Remember, you've seen this in the government schools for a while now. Every time something a bit out of the ordinary and tragic happens your local government school has been running in government counselors to help your poor dears deal with their emotional response. The new standard seems to be if something happens that rocks your world, even a little bit, the government will provide you with some sort of mental health counseling. Right now its just a website for those of you struggling with the economy ... but perhaps your local economic mental health center will be opening soon.

Remember .. you need government to cope. Government is all. Government is everything. You cannot exist without massive government. Government is your friend. All hail the Imperial Federal Government of the United States.

What others are saying

  • Deborah's suicide hotline comment
I applaud Deborah's mention of suicide hot lines, but I think she missed the point of the article, which was this:
Expecting the government to fix your emotional problems is a recipe for disaster. For instance, if the government rand suicide hotlines I would expect a recording saying "Your hold time may exceed 20 minutes, please call back later "

Deborah, people on here do not disagree with suicide hot lines. They disagree with the government trying to do something that should be done on a local level.
  • Winston Smith got it right.
    "We are the dead"
  • Big Brother
Best bumper sticker I have seen yet..." I, for one, welcome our new Marxist overlords..."
  • I'm curious as to how many of you who have commented here would be willing to keep your own phone line open 24 hours a day so that those who are ready to load a gun and kill themselves, and maybe their children and their families with them, have a place to get some immediate help? If you're not willing to do that, don't criticize an effort to make something available for those who need it. And don't think that you're so self-made that you won't ever need some help yourself. The truth is, NONE of us made it on our own.
  • Be Careful
Be careful of going to the government and complaining about mental issues. There is a whole host of Iraq vets who are wishing they had not taken the bait on that silly PTSD. Many can't own guns anymore.
  • Copyleft ... got it right for once
Copyleft, I have to give you my compliments for your comments, "We must shut down the National Weather Service and FEMA immediately, too".

You are so correct on this. There is not one word, nor phrase, much less a clause in the US Constitution that gives the Federal Government the Authority to spend money or have these organizations.

Historically, local communities did a much better job of handling these types of issues. Hence, the authority was quite limited under the Constitution.

But then again, the majority of American people don't care about limiting the government's power to the Constitution as someone like Roosevelt, LBJ, GW Bush, and Obama got elected.
  • This is like a burglar offering a shoulder...
.....to cry on after stealing your belongings.

Only in a dimocrat-inspired government could such lunacy actually exist. ANYONE who calls 1-800-GOV-HELP for counseling needs to get his/her head examined.
  • Not what you can do for your country, What can your country do for you!
Now it's counselors to help you cope with life. Counselors that are employees of the Government, (people who don't need to cope because they have a job with benefits), paid for by the people who have taxes to pay.
Next it will be a Government website that will tuck you in bed, read you a bedtime story and turn out the light.
  • What a brave new world
I wonder when we will start having our SOMA?
  • To Laughing - re/Government can help?
"Citizens are depressed because of the present liberal/Marxist government as they destroy the Country.
Government can help by reading the Constitution and making sure THEY stick to it." but, but Laughing.....who will help us if this happens? It will mean assuming some personal responsibility.
  • Sad, Lonely, Depressed call 1-800-GOV
My gosh, how did we make it through the Great Depression (no, Obama, it wasn't 2009)and WWII?
  • Gun background checks expanding
If you like to hunt, shoot for target pratice, shoot trap, etc., I wouldn't even THINK of getting any type of mental health services, depression medication or the like, especially directly from the government.

Even in the big hunting state of WI, they are proposing a new law that requires more extensive background checks before purchase even a little shotgun for hunting. In other words, they would like to ban sales to anyone who has seen a phychiatrist, even took any type of medication for depression, or even seen any type of social worker, marriage counselor, etc!

I personally shoot sporting clays on a league and my husband hunts. We are fighting this legislation all the way. Unfortunately, like usual, most people are either uninformed (as the state wants it), or have their head up their ass not realizing the massive increase in control our government has over us with this law.

When is this going to end Neil? Or let me direct that questions to my fellow readers out there... people, when is this going to end? Civil War?
  • Unbelievable.
the government offering alternative services? WTF? With MY money? No, what the government is offering (very liberal use of the word as I would have NO say as to if it does or does not "offer") is to tax me even higher to pay for someone else's life.

The government is over stepping it's mandate way over. People want these services... then work a second job, a third if that still doesn't do it, and stop buying all that other crap like beer, smokes, cable tele, tele, and a slew of other things. There is a difference between the needy and the greedy and while people who have are called greedy this is far from the truth. People that all they can think of is how to enable a government to take and take and take from those that make money is greedy and frankly a cancer that is eating away at the heart of humanity.

Capitalism works because people with goods and services to offer set their prices at what the market can afford to pay. Capitalist understand a basic concept that if people do not have money to spend, they will not be able to sell their product and services. This concept falls to the blind liberalism and socialism and communism that is eating away at the mainstream today. Anyone that supports any form of national health care services is saying this:

It is okay to take food off of someone else's plate to hand out to someone that the government deems "fit." Every tax dollar that is taken from a person is a tax dollar that could go to that persons feeding and being responsible for themselves and their family. No matter what lingo you use or how you try and twist it, that is the gist of it right to the bloody marrow. That is why the government is supposed to be mindful stewards of our money, not wasteful spenders of any and every program they can enact even after the people tell them NO.

Here is a little truth, hand on, it hurts, but you need to see it. Money is everything. Without it, try and do anything of substance except beg someone to allow you to have this or that and/or do this or that. The more you have, the more you can do and have and that... is freedom bought and paid for with the founding declaration of this country. Money can and does buy happiness and I'll tell ya one more thing... I'd rather be rich any day of the than poor and any one that says they wouldn't is a liar or a fool.
  • Depressed?
Heck no, I'm not depressed. I pity those that will let something like this depress them. Instead of letting this get you down, how about letting it charge you up. Use a little righteous anger to let your congressmen and senators what you think not what you feel. Be optimistic in this sea of misery and others will want it too. Channel this optimism into positive actions that will actually help bring about change that we conservatives can believe in. This government wants you to quit, go home and let them pacify you with their false compassion.

I refuse to let liberals rob me of my peace and happiness. The best way to do that is to be an example of self reliance through a good attitude, an excellent work ethic, and faith in my God not my government. These are things
that liberals can never take away from me and it makes them very mad at the same time.

    With love from Tough Love.
  • sorry to say it...
..but apart from military people, in a lot of ways Americans are soft and unable to cope with life situations.A far cry from Americans who grew up through the 1940's.
  • Bottom of the barrel
You're really scraping for something to stir up the outrage on this one.

The government provides mental-health information and news to citizens that's relevant to the current problems facing us? HORRORS. That should NEVER happen!

We must shut down the National Weather Service and FEMA immediately, too.
  • Government counseling
Watch out, if you submit to Government Mental Health counseling you will not be allowed to exercise your 2nd amendment rights. Nice trap Government!
  • Same on both sides
Did Neal complain this much about the imperial government when the Patriot Act was passed?
  • my changing moods
Wonder if they have a website for when I'm horny.
  • Bawlers Website
We need another Gov. website for those of us crying over the budget waste, creeping socialism & higher taxes.
  • sad?
sad? no.. not sad.. mad.. mad that our government is running away with the country.. mad that the president is trampling the constitution.. mad that the american idol generation who cant tell you who nancy pelosi is elected these people.. mad that our president thinks he has the right to take a private company like GM, appoint a puppet CEO and NOT call that fascism.

I dont need a government website to fix this.. we need a government changeout.

vote ALL incumbents out! thats the only change I can beleive in..
  • Grief counselors
When I was in school in the 50's and 60s it was really sad to see one of our classmates get killed in an accident etc. We never had grief counselors, we handled it on own way and of course we were sad, but it did not cause us any great harm.

  • We fought a war over a whole lot less government intrusion
We fought a war in the late 1700's against the current world superpower since that superpower wanted to intrude into private citizens' lives. Now the American people are welcoming the government intrusion. If it were not so, Obama could have not been elected president.

Neal you are right about one thing. The Teachers' Unions in cohorts with the Government Education system is the most damaging entity to the American People. They have damaged the minds of entire generations of Americans, and an example of its fruition is here today in you Nealz Nuze about the government wanting to take care of everything.

I do believe that I should start looking for a freer place to live without the full force of the US Govt bearing down on me.

Also, remember what the poorest Congressmen said when a Farm subsidy bill came up for a vote, "A government that is big enough to give charity to its citizens is big enough to take your freedom away." That was Davy Crockett as related by the late Paul Harvey.
  • the Imperial Federal Government of the United States.
in the bible it says that "But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus."
today Government shall supply all your need according to Obama's ability to take from the rich people and industry by the Imperial Federal Government of the United States.
  • More change
More change to exacerbate the wussification of America. Get the government out, suck it up, move on.
  • Or maybe, just maybe...
...the government is offering alternative services for people who wish to seek counseling but for some reason or another cannot see an independant psychiatrist -- either lack of money, or lack of availability in their area.

Not that any of you can appreciate the subtleties of the human mind, as you believe people are nothing more than profit-generating robots.
  • Government can help!
I am depressed and need grief counseling for my economic situation.
I do not have a healthcare option since I don't have a job at the moment.
Since I went to a government school (for a while), can I get an appointment there?
They got me into this mess, so they should help me get out of it.
    I am entitled.
  • Government can help?
Citizens are depressed because of the present liberal/Marxist government as they destroy the Country.
Government can help by reading the Constitution and making sure THEY stick to it.
  • Sad
I'd be a whole lot better if the government would get the hell out of my life - and I wouldn't be sad at its leaving!
