That's how much the Barack Obama administration has spent thus far. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell did the math .. "In just 50 days, Congress has voted to spend about $1.2 trillion between the Stimulus and the Omnibus ... To put that in perspective, that's about $24 billion a day, or about $1 billion an hour."

Your government at work.

What others are saying

  • Huh?!?
Well, that's got to be some kind of record.
  • stepcousin...
I agree with what you said, but maybe saying "'trickle-up' my ass" was the wrong way to say it, lolzzz.
  • Money Waster
I've learned a bit about zoology thanks to this thread.

While I live in the most back-water state in the union and believe we need infrastructure growth like no other state...it shouldn't come at the expense of y'all. The fact that my two Senators are in the top ten of pork-dollar recepients can only lead me to conclude that Senators Murkowski and Begich are willing to not allow Alaskans to develop their own resources in exchange for federal dollars. Alaskans sit on a pot of gold but are told to suckle at the hind tit of National Government and be happy.

    This is a raw deal.
  • leech
Obama is just another lazy liberal, piggybacking successful business owners and sucking the life out of them.

"Trickle-up", my ass! I thought it was a bad joke the first time I heard him say it.

    They guy's an idiot.
  • "THE" solution
If the blame for all these problems can be shared by politicians from both sides then the simple solution is to get rid of them all. The american voter has that power but is to stupid/partisan/ignorant/appathetic/greedy(pick one) to use it. Therefore I predict that our good friends in Iran and North Korea could do what american voters won't. We have already supplied them with the technology to lob a nuke at the capital. I'm sure the N.Koreans and Iranians will be willing to oblige, they have dying to try out their new missiles. This way the pschopathic thug from N.Korea gets self-esteem, the mad mulla from Iran gets a wack at the "great satan" and we get to start over and try to learn from our previous mistakes.
  • 1 Billion per hour spending
Surely this couldn't be the same Mitch McConnel that incorporated nearly 80 million worth of earmarks in the 09 budget.
Let's see, 80,000,000 divided by 50 equals 16,000,000 divided by 1200 (hours) means Mr. McConnel added about $13,333 per hour. What a spendthrift!
  • How does it compare?
Okay, that's bad, but how do the numbers compare to how much Bush spent every hour during his administration? And Clinton, and Bush (elder), etc. Adjusted for inflation, of course.
  • O...Crap!
All of this spending is ridiculous! Why does this man think that spending money is going to help the econmony? Somebody needs to do something about all this spending if not we are going to go down the hole! I dont want my kids to be in debt when their born, i dont want that burden on them! It makes me not even want to have kids because i would be bringing them into a debt america! I was never for Obama but id hoped he would at least do the right thing....and it was wrong.
  • B-O's raping of America
This all a socialist scheme to devalue the American dollar, so as to convert our currency over to an international currency. They (The Ruling party) does not want us to remain an independent Republic as the Framers of the Constitution intended. We will not be able to fund this, until we convert to a NATO, or some other kind of world currency, or monetary base. The United States will be carved up by international entities, opposition will be quelled by force, and the only people that will have money, are the ones in power...The plan is a long one. This is just one part.
  • Cut in the budget
Barney Frank said the stimulus bill could have been 20% more. So Franks should now take credit (liberal spin) of cutting the budget by 20%.
  • How we fund it?
Taxes coming in in the last 30 days have amounted to $87.3 billion, the lowest since February 1995. In February, individual income taxes fell 64% to just $8.7 billion. So in 30 days we took in 2.9 Bb a day and spent 24 bb a day. That 21 bb unaccounted for, not to mention govt salaries, etc. So we are spending 8 times what we are collecting and our collecting is dropping each month and our spending and our promises (now at 9 Trillion) keep growing. I see the future devaluation of the dollar.
  • Reminds me of this:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zDiR7UxI8Ow
  • McConnell Hypocrisy
Funny how he rails againts againts all this government spending and clains to fiscally conservative. Yet he managed to bring home $75.5 million worth of bacon home to the great state of Kentucky in the Omnibus bill. This includes bike trails at Western Kentucky university, foot trails and an animal hospital. Thats only $62916 and some change per hour for just another Republican hipocrite!!
  • Who cares what Mitch McConnell says?
This guy is trying to point out spending overall but is on the top 20 list of earmarkers in the latest bill! His area is getting over $50M!

You don't get anywhere by saying "Well, they are spending more so they're worse!" Take no earmarks and then point the finger. Until then, I got a finger for you!
  • $1 Billion a Hour
Taking the math further makes it $280,000 per second. It makes me happy to know that our money is being spent so wisely.
  • McConnell's error
Sen. McConnell assumes Congress "works" 24 hours a day. Let's be generous and say they work an 8 hour day. This means that Congress spends 3 billion per hour.
at that rate, shouldn't all our problems be fixed by now?
  • McConnell
Funny McConnell complains about the amount of money being spent and he just happens to be one of the top ten earmark leaders of the budget. The hypocrisy of these guys is staggering.
