I told you about how the final stimulus bill does not include a provision that would force employers receiving stimulus money to use E-verify. In other words, they can hire illegal immigrants using your tax money as "economic stimulus" and send that money right back to Mexico, or Guatemala, or what have you.

There happens to be one man in the White House that helping their cause... Rahm Emanuel. You may remember that Obama's first legislative victory was passage of this SCHIP bill. And apparently Rahm Emanuel was the one who "cleared the path for increased benefits for legal immigrant children and pregnant women in the State Children's Health Insurance Program." The president of La Raza says that that the SCHIP bill would have never happened if it wasn't for Rahm, after he warned that the bill would not be signed without the immigration benefits. He even went as far as to say that "SCHIP can be viewed as a down payment on what will be forthcoming from the Obama administration."

And this move of the Census from the Commerce Department to the White House, it was only after Hispanic groups protested the fact that Judd Gregg was going to hurt their cause. And Rahm Emanuel was set to be the White House point person for the Census.

And then when it comes to this economic stimulus bill, the Politico reports, "Hispanics and business groups managed to delete from the final bill House language that would have forced employers receiving stimulus money to use E-Verify."

Illegals sending stimulus money out of the country. Still more change you can believe in.

What others are saying

  • Rahm Emanuel
Why should anyone expect less from a man who ran off to serve in the Israeli military in a time of war rather than serve in the U.S. military? The whole multicultural, change America from the inside ideology is coming home to roost, and legal and illegal immigration are a major part of the destruction. Leave it to a man with loyalty to a foreign nation to play a major role.
  • What about hire American?
Let me get this straight... We are about to start a devastating trade war with this "Buy American" provision in the "stimulus," but we are not going to ensure that those people using the artificially costly steel are even legally qualified to work in this country. "Buy American" is destructive and asinine, but "Hire American" might actually create a (temporary) job or two. One would think that in 1,100 pages and a trillion+ dollars a democrat would have goofed up and stumbled upon a beneficial idea.
  • E-Verify
Neal, I have to disagree on E-Verify. That system is a trainwreck and contains so many errors that it is practically useless. Now, if they wanted to say hire people with a SSN# or an H-1B Visa, then I would support that measure, but E-Verify is not the way to go.
  • E-Verify is a tax on business and employment
Neal, given that you always acknowledge that a taxes and regulations are disincentives, it's surprising that you support regulations on hiring. As a small business owner, the last thing we need is more rules and hoops we have to jump through just to engage in a private employment transaction. Tax withholding, unemployment insurance, workers comp, I-9 forms, etc., and now you support E-verify? You attack every other government program as wasteful, inefficient, and riddled with errors, but you expect E-verify to be perfect, such that it would never wrongfully deny a US citizen a job? Get real, Neal! The very last thing we need is government permission to give or get a job, no matter if that regulation is couched in the language of stopping illegal aliens. Employers should not be forced to become the immigration police, no more than doctors, landlords, or grocery stores should be forced to verify lawful status in the US before treating, renting to, or selling to a person. In these "tough economic times", we need to loosen regulations on employment and wealth creation. E-verify is the exact opposite of that.
  • but H-1B visa holders are banned
LEGAL immigrants who hold H-1B visas (you know, the smart guys with advanced degrees) cannot be hired by firms that receive bailout money.

Apparently, illegals (usually those without advanced degrees) get "stimulus" jobs.

Boortz is right: We have decided to punish ambition and success in this country.
