What others are saying

  • Maxine
Brutus Buckeye asked "How in the world did this person get on the banking committee...I do not think she can balance her check book.".

Geithner got to be Sect of the Treasury and he can't pay income taxes correctly. Clearly, there is no competence test for candidates or for appointees.

But it turns out that there are TWO tests.

The first is a connections test which Geithner passed.

The second is a color test, which Maxine passed.

Voting for the white guy because he is white is racist. Voting against the black guy because he is black is racist. Voting for the black guy because he is black is racist. In short, making decisions based on race is racist. Pure (or impure) and simple. Anyone that claims otherwise is running some hidden agenda (or they are as dumb as Rep. Waters.)

Um...what percent of the black vote did Obama get?
  • dumb and dumber
could you imagine if corrine brown was seated next to her ? Whats even funnier is when the camera is focusing on the banking ceo's they look like a deer in a headlight. People like this why abortions are legal.
  • Wow
I wouldn't hire that woman to deliver mail around my office.

    She is a absolute idiot.
  • against all enemies, foreign and domestic...
Many of us took this oath, “I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic.”

So, who do "We The People" turn to when those domestic enemies are in our own government and control the very agencies that should be investigating, prosecuting them?

Unfortunately for those of us in different states, who did not vote idiots like Waters, Frank, and Pelosi into office cannot vote them out. Yet, they will continue to pollute our wells.

Too bad we can't vote their states OUT of the Union.
  • Huh?
This was kind of like the Jaquan Phoenix interview, but reversed. This is the type of intelligence that is running our nation. Ireland sounds better every day.

You wrote: "But since you seem to be as clueless as Maxine Waters, let me enlighten you. The reason your credit card interest rate went from 6.99% to 23.99% is because of PEOPLE LIKE YOU!!! Instead of managing credit responsibly and paying off your card every month, you not only carried balances over (and it sounds like they were almost PERMANENT balances) but when the interest rate went up you stopped paying entirely."

People that carry a balance pay interest which keeps CC companies in business and thousands of people employed.

You wrote: "And what were you thinking trying to run your business using a CREDIT CARD as your source of capital?"

It's a business credit card. It was marketed as the only source of capital you will need with great interest rates. I did use it for dental and doctor bills too, 60% of the balance.

You wrote: "So now it sounds like you're totally out of the game, because instead of doing the mature thing, which would be shopping around for a card at a more reasonable rate, you decided to "stick it to the bank" by not paying your bills. Trust me, the bank doesn't care about your little act of rebellion."

The Federal Reserve Board has told credit card companies that they can no longer jack-up rates on past balances unless payments are missed. I had not missed any payments until after they jacked-up my rate. It takes effect July/2010. If it’s wrong then, it's wrong now. Run-away fuel prices killed my business. I had no income, could not transfer a balance without an income. I had got a job and was laid-off very shortly after being hired. The timing of everything made this worse. My "little act of rebellion" was necessary to let them know I'm willing to go down with the ship and can't be extorted with outrageous, unethical interest rates. It worked. They offered to settle at 55%. I was surprised and grateful.

You wrote: "But the other customers of that bank will care because now THEIR credit card interest rates will go up."

What does it matter how high interest rates go up? You and all the other mature, responsible, holier than thou Americans that pay your balances every month and never carry a balance, pay no interest. All the other American parasites that carry a balance deserve to pay higher interest rates for being so irresponsible for carrying a balance (according to your wisdom). Again, no one is holding a gun to your head to do business with a company that makes bad decisions and pass the loss to you.

You wrote: "So, tell me, did you VOTE for Maxine Waters?????"

No, I live in NC. I'm registered as Non-Affiliated which means I believe Democrats promote social-welfare and Republicans promote corporate-welfare. Both do it to buy votes and campaign contributions to stay in power.

    Which party do you support?

You wrote: "What you're doing is transferring your freely-chosen-and-aquired debt to us, the folks who honor our agreements and pay our bills. Thanks for nothing."

No actually, YOU ARE CHOOSING to pay those debts. No one is holding a gun to your head to do business with the credit card company. YOU ARE CHOOSING to do business with a company that makes bad decisions and passes the loss to others. According to Neal, if a company makes bad decisions and goes under, so be it. YOU don't have to pay for their mistake.

I love Clark Howard. Unfortunately, I don't have the opportunity to listen to him regularly. Besides the timing of this was when fuel prices went sky-high and wiped out my income. I have people that owe me money as well and probably will spend more trying to collect it than what they owe.
  • Sorry I'm the bad guy.....
So according to a couple of you, I'm the bad guy here. Trust me, I'm on your side. I'm screaming Fair Tax to any that will listen. I vote Libertarian and Republican (when I have no other choice and I know they're not a RINO, of course, Republican politicians have abandoned their principles as a whole). I don't live beyond my means. My truck is 14 years old, has 283,000 miles and my house is falling apart because I can't afford to fix it. I live in a house because I took in 3 abandoned dogs that would be euthanized by now if not for me. No one will rent to you with 3 dogs. I never married or had children because I never had the financial means to support them. I don’t even own a television.
Runaway fuel prices devastated my livelihood and while trying to re-group I was hit with the interest rate rise. I couldn’t find another card because my income was virtually gone. I had to let the business go and got a job only to be laid-off before benefits kicked-in. Also, I had to have some long neglected (because of high cost) dental work done or lose several teeth along with a couple of other health issues. Of course, that was paid with a credit card and it was very expensive. What would you do? And yes, I brush and floss. Sorry, I got sick.
I realize no one owes me anything and I’m not a victim, however, people need to realize when we have wild swings in the economy, run-away fuel prices, ever increasing taxes, off-the–chart healthcare cost along with importing other countries’ poverty, some honest, hard-working Americans get wiped out. It doesn’t help when you’re down that the credit card company kicks you. I guess that’s life.
Yes, I carried a balance for sometime on my card. Did I want to? No. Was I paying at least the minimum and some extra each month to chip-away the balance? Yes.
    Sorry, I ruined America.
  • Waters= Tears in my Eyes
What is worse: She is continously re-elected by people even though she is dumber than a brick. How stupid must those people be. And people actually wonder why California is falling apart.
  • Maxine
I'm not sure what could be a worse fate; having Maxine Waters as your Representative, or having to represent San Francisco.
  • Let the record show...
that Mad Max is the "Empty"Dome. Geez, I have never seen anything more pathetic. My 5 year old could ask better questions and in a more coherent manner.
  • Maxine
Honest to God, this has to be a SNL skit.
  • Space...the final frontier...
WTF! Did she actually beat a live opponent to get her seat or was she put there for comic relief?
  • Idiot vs. Moron
For all of you that are confused...

She is an idiot wrapped in a moron!!

See, doesn't that make sense now?

Wow, that was hard to watch...
  • Maxine Waters
i'm afraid i have to agree with melanie's post, i almost spilled my coffee watching the guy behind her doing his darndess to keep from laughing. did you notice how her demeanor changed when baarneyy whispered in her ear. delicious!!
  • She has a point...
Patriot - I agree that it stinks that they can raise the rate if you're late by a day (it's happened to me too) - but you didn't have to use the card either! You got it because of the low rate. Those low rates almost always have these kinds of Gotcha's in the mice print. You didn't read the mice print. You're not paying the debt YOU ran up. You're not going to let 'the system' run you by God, you're going to run it.
What you're doing is transferring your freely-chosen-and-aquired debt to us, the folks who honor our agreements and pay our bills.
    Thanks for nothing.
  • Ouch...my brain...
I am sorry, but that just may be the most painful 'grilling' I have ever seen in my life. She wouldn't accept their answers...she wouldn't listen to them...hell, she contradicted answers they gave. What is the point of asking questions if you really don't want to hear the answer? Oh, wait...I think I know!
  • to: Patriot Till Death
If you had been a regular listener to Clark Howard, you would know that if your credit card company raises your interest from 6.99 to 23.99 then you should tell them that you want to continue at the original rate on the current balance and then close the account to any further charges and then transfer it to another card. (or something like that, if I didnt get it exactly right).
  • can she......
How in the world did this person get on the banking committee...I do not think she can balance her check book.
  • OMG
This was agonizing to listen to. I was amused by the man behind her trying to stifle his laughter. And wouldn't you love to know what Barney whispered to her??
Every one of those bankers had a "what is she blathering about" look on their faces. Painful. Simply painful.
As someone said before, we are in deep doo doo people. And its going to get deeper I fear.
  • We have met the enemy and he is us.
The American public has known about the credit card game for a long time; or they should have. Just quit paying their usury. It's unsecured debt; they won't come after you. And your credit score will heal in time while you learn prudent financial management. Pay cards off for less than you owe and let time be on your side.
  • Idiot
    I like the Citi guy.

He basically sails the fact over her head that....look we were stronghanded by the Feds to make bad loans, we got fucked into having to pay the underwriting costs (by the Feds) in insuring up to $250,000 and we will recover our cost lost in the underwriting process on dipshits who carry a balance on credit.

Shockingly, it flew over her head.
  • Mind reader
Wouldn't ya like to be able to read the minds of these men as they listen to Waters babble at them. They wouldn't hire her to be a maid in their household. If there was a "do over" of the Civil War it probably wouldn't happen.
  • O.M.G.
I had a high school English teacher once that reminds me of Ms. Waters. One day she decided to write a letter to my parents about my "lack of respect" in the classroom. In the letter, she misspelled several words along with the numerous grammatical errors. We showed the letter to the school principle who excused me from any punishment. SCARY...
  • Pathetic
And the really sad part is, she's going to be voted in again and again and again. That was some of the most pathetic, incoherent crap I have ever had the misfortune to have to listen to. We're doomed.
  • maxine waters
In both 2005 and 2006, the Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington named Maxine Waters one of the thirteen Most Corrupt Members of Congress for using her office to financially benefit her daughter, husband and son.
  • But man oh man
If you're leaving a balance on a credit card you deserve the interest payments. Stop borrowing more than you can pay for!

Then to stop paying and get upset your credit score dropped? Hello?

"How dare that nasty lender report me to the credit bureaus for not paying my LEGALLY BINDING debts!!!!"

If they jack your rates, surf the card or pay it off. Does that take rocket science or an MBA?

It's easier to be a victim i guess...
  • wow
I never usually make comments to things I see on the internet. But geez louise, are you serious? She helps run our country? She makes banking decisions? Those men sitting at the table are there because they know what they are talking about, Ms. Waters clearly does not. I am going to go look out the window now.
  • Patriot 'Till Death
Mr. Patriot 'Till Death - if you read your comment again, you will see that you have answered your own question. But since you seem to be as clueless as Maxine Waters, let me enlighten you. The reason your credit card interest rate went from 6.99% to 23.99% is because of PEOPLE LIKE YOU!!! Instead of managing credit responsibly and paying off your card every month, you not only carried balances over (and it sounds like they were almost PERMANENT balances) but when the interest rate went up you stopped paying entirely. And what were you thinking trying to run your business using a CREDIT CARD as your source of capital? So now it sounds like you're totally out of the game, because instead of doing the mature thing, which would be shopping around for a card at a more reasonable rate, you decided to "stick it to the bank" by not paying your bills. Trust me, the bank doesn't care about your little act of rebellion. But the other customers of that bank will care because now THEIR credit card interest rates will go up.

So, tell me, did you VOTE for Maxine Waters?????
  • How I would have replied
    Madame Congresswoman:

While it is true that some mistakes were made, I can not believe that you hypocrites in congress have the unmitigated gall to question our salaries. You sit there with your righteous indignation while at the same time vote yourself pay raises late in the evening when the average tax payer is not watching. You pass bills that automatically give you a pay increase each year in order to hide it from the public.

Likewise, Madame, every cent that our company makes is given to us voluntarily, unlike you criminals in Washington who seize money at the point of a gun for the sole purpose of distributing goodies to your constituents who in return put you in office each year.
  • Wait a minute....she has a point....
Granted she's not an eloquent speaker but, she makes a good point.
I had my credit card interest raised, from 6.99% to 23.99% because "it's in the terms you agreed to". I had not missed one payment and because of the great rate, I was using the card for my business. I tried everything to negotiate something reasonable but the credit card said "sorry".
Now my monthly minimum was more than than the minimum AND extra I paid each month. I made a 90% monthly minimum payment and they raised my rate to 29.99% and said if I didn't make the minimum each month it could go as high as 45%. I stopped all payments immediately for 3 months. My credit score went from 757 to 640. Now they call and want to settle for 55% of balance.
Go figure. I have no sympathy for banks or anyone that finds this type of practice acceptable.
I'm debating whether to pay them anything just out of principle for trying to squeeze me. I could care less about my credit score. The worse it is the more qualified I am for a handout. I refuse to be worked over by the system, I'll work it. These bank CEOs need a reality check and people that think private enterprise can squeeze people need to wake-up as well. I guess it is my fault I didn't read 100,000 words of mice type legalese and I was aware that interest rates are raised when you miss payments but I had not missed one payment when they raised my rate from 6.99% to 23.99%.
  • Oh Maxine...
The difficulty is that there are some questionable banking practices that should be addressed. But not in this forum. And not by this person. Congress should really listen to Clark Howard before they delve into anything financial.
  • Lobotomized
How old is she? You know they did lots of lobotomies in the 40's.

    Could we be seeing....
  • Don't forget our Moron!
Don't forget Cynthia McKinney! Dumb as a box of hammers, she gives maxine a run for her dumb dolla!
  • Moron
She is the perfect representative for her district. She is probably the smartest out of her district as well. Morons!!!!
  • I'm impressed
she's an idiot studying to be a moron...I'm sorry,I think I just insulted morons. What a useless person.
  • And she is representative of her district? A district of bumbling and uneducated idiots. I couldn't watch the whole video, it hurt to listen to her try so hard to sound slightly smarter than the desk she sat at. My friends, we're in deep doo-doo.
  • Whatta MORON
And Water's is representative of her district?? Apparently they are bumbling and uneducated. My friends, we're in deep doo-doo.
  • "arguably"
I watched the whole thing, and after doing so, I think it's safe to say you can feel free to omit the word "arguably" when referring to her as the dumbest member of congress.

I present as evidence the following exchange:
Banker: I have no idea what you're talking about.
Waters: Do any of you know what I'm talking about?
  • Maxine
"Maxine Waters .. arguably the dumbest member of Congress... " Now that Joe Biden's VP, Maxines got the inside track to dumbest. Kerry, Reid and Pelosi will make it a horse race though.
  • Hard to Watch.......
....without "If I Only Had a Brain" from "The Wizard of Oz" going on in the back of my head.
  • Whatha?
Since when did this woman become an expert on the banking and finance industry?
  • Question for Maxine
Those CEOs need to ask Maxine how we got that US flag on Mars. When she does that, then they'll answer her questions.
  • video
    I lasted 35 seconds....
  • Drool...
That poor microphone... Imaging having to pass all that incoherent speech hour after hour.
Worse still, imaging being a CEO who actually understands banking and being forced to listen to her babbling away while trying to read from her script.
They clearly didn't understand her because she was not asking questions that meant anything. She was just hunting for a soundbite. Pathetic.
  • Could this be
a direct result of the NAACP? Nah.
  • What the hell?
What makes her qualified to make any sort of judgement concerning the banking industry? It gets really tiring to see idiots in congress that actually believe they know better than everyone else how to fix the economy.
  • Gettin' to the bottom of things!
Wow, she asked some good questions. It's too bad she has no idea what she's barking about. And quit with the leading, I'm-gonna-catcha-in-a-lie questions!
I love the part where she wants them to loan to small businesses and minorities, but labels them as predatory when folks can't pay 'em back. What a dufus!
  • Proof
NASA should look into this. I believe we may have proof there can be life in a vacuum. Admittedly, not much intelligent life, but .....
  • What a fool
Maxine Water is a foolish, old crone.
  • she is a complete moron
My favorite line was "I don;t know what you are talking about"
  • W-W-What is Waters Talking About?
I think Mr. Lebowski said it best, in The Big Lebowski, when he asked "The Dude", "What are you blathering about?"

Not that anyone from Ms. Waters' (and that compliment is a stretch) constituent pool would ever read this, but I really hope the folks from L.A. realize what a hopeless moron this woman is.

Granted, she may be nice enough in person, but she really has absolutely no business in shaping policy for any body of persons.
  • That's her agenda...
    and she's sticking to it!

good lord, she is a total idiot.
  • How does it go again...
It is better to be thought a fool, then to open one's mouth and remove all doubt.

How do people keep electing idiots like her and Barney "Elmer Fudd" Frank?
  • maxine waters
i can't watch the video at work, so i'll have to wait till i get home. i have seen her speak before and find it amusing that she can't converse without a script. it is my conjecture that she has the intellectual agility of a small household appliance.
  • P. T. Barnum almost had it ...
You can't fool all the people all the time, but you can fool enough of them to get a good job with high pay - even if you're totally unqualified to perform the work ...
  • This video
I could not watch the whole thing, how did she get elected.. never mind she is from LA.
  • Maxine Waters' Uneducated Rant
Congresswoman Waters is now the poster child of what is wrong with the government. The Constitution never refers to the legislature as leaders. They were in place to see to the daily business of our republic. She and the rest of the power hungry in congress need to try to read (if they can) the Cinstitution and remember who they are. The last time I checked the government "business" isn't doing so well. All of these finger pointers like Ms. Waters and Barney Frank need to be voted out of office.

Again if more people educated themselves instead of watching mindless TV and sports all the time we would have an informed electorate and something could be done.

I am embarrassed that what is up there supposedly represents the best this country has to offer.

Congress needs to study business for a while before accusing these CEO's of practices that are not backed up by proof.
  • Maxine Waters ...Rocket Scientist
Well this goes to show how uninformed the people are in the district of Maxine Waters. Many of these people voted for Barack Obama as well. The two politicians are a product of their electorate.
  • So the woman that got soooooo upset over the hearings about fannie mae and freddy mac in 2005 is now in charge of getting to the root of the banking problem. Does anyone else see a problem here?
