It seems like every day I read countless stories about government's inability to do anything with efficiency or common sense. And it is your tax dollars that pay the price. So now, for your enjoyment, I have a few examples that I have gathered just from the last day.

-A middle school in California spends $10,000 a year to teach advanced Spanish to students who are already fluent in Spanish.

-Newspapers in Minnesota are getting a $238,000 grant to retrain their staffs on how to use the Internet.

-The federal government is going to fund a $5 million national media campaign to promote the benefits of married life to young adults.

-It took five Nebraska state employees to assemble a Sony PlayStation (bought by your tax dollars), which they then proceeded to play on state time.

-Remember the story about Clayton County bus drivers who were told to wear uniforms in order to prevent terrorists from hijacking school buses?? Clayton County decided to buck up $18,000 for the uniform shirts, but now refuses to pay $75,000 for the pants.

-And how about this $410 billion omnibus bill filled with 9,000 earmarks .. Jamie Dupree has an extensive list of earmarks, which you can read on his blog. But just to get you started, here are some other earmarks highlighted on Michelle Malkin's blog:

Aren't you glad that you have government to spend your earned wealth so wisely?

What others are saying

  • Talk about missing the forest for the trees...
Take ONE issue out of a list of 9k and throw out the rest. I'm still waiting to see just where Congress gets this power (missed it in my copy of the Enumerated Powers).

I'm calling my Fl. reps to get this 9/10th Amendment bill rolling here...
  • English for English Speakers?
    >> I'm fluent in English and I had to take four years of English class in high school.

Thanks... I was thinking the exact same thing. I also had to take 3 years of English in middle school and a year's worth in college.

Once again I'm fascinated at the way some posters immediately begin frothing at the mouth at Neal's implied outrage without ever bothering to consider the specifics. Some people really do live on the constant edge of frenzy.

If introspection wasn't so clearly beyond them I might try recommending it.
  • School Bus Uniforms
How many terrorists have ever attacked Clayton County Georgia? And how many of those have ever attacked school busses? And how many of those have ever been deterred by a school bus driver's uniform? And since when did uniforms cost $100,000?
  • what did you expect?
By voting for either Obama or Mccain you got the kind of spending you voted for since both of those guys(and parties) are on the same page as far as growing the government. This nonsense would have never happened if people would have voted for Ron Paul.Hopefully true conservatives can get it right in the midterm election with some Ron Paul types, the country is lost without a leader who are willing to follow the constitution.
  • You know. . .
"-A middle school in California spends $10,000 a year to teach advanced Spanish to students who are already fluent in Spanish."

I'm fluent in English and I had to take four years of English class in high school.

"-Remember the story about Clayton County bus drivers who were told to wear uniforms in order to prevent terrorists from hijacking school buses?? Clayton County decided to buck up $18,000 for the uniform shirts, but now refuses to pay $75,000 for the pants."

So it's a government waste that they AREN'T spending $75k on their employees pants? I'd say it was a waste if they were.

At my old job our employer gave us uniform shirts and we were required to buy our own pants. That's the way things usually are.
  • The Government should not be.....
....even involving itself in any of this. The founding fathers had it set up so the Federal Government was given "Limited" power and the State's had Rights.
I was reading a road map written up on the Libertarian Slant and it is a good piece of writing because it keeps the Federal Government held down and people are given more choices through local governments.

I don't even know if we can return to a limited government once Obama puts everyone on welfare.
