How long ago was Katrina? Make that about three and one-half years since that nasty little blow to New Orleans.

Some of you in New Orleans may wonder what happened to my show. I'm not on the air there any more. It seems that the owner of the radio station that carried my show didn't appreciate the things I had to say about New Orleans residents after Katrina. No problem .. it's his station. Has happened before - will happen again.

What was it I said about New Orleans? Prolly something it about being a city infested with parasites ... human parasites. Odd, isn't it, that two million could get on the National Mall for Barack Obama's inauguration without any public transportation, but 80,000 couldn't get out of New Orleans with four days warning and busses and trains running.

Anyway .. heard a startling report Monday.

Three and one-half years after Katrina there are still 17,000 former New Orleans parasites living in hotels and motels. They've been there for 42 months .. and just can't seem to find a way to get out and get their own housing. Not only that, but there are still another 8,000 people living in temporary housing who can't claw their way out as well. How would YOU define these people? Sterling citizens? Worthy Americans? No ... they're human parasites. They are the people who made New Orleans the most welfare-dependent people in this country .. the people who brought New Orleans its sky-high crime rates ... and now Obama has given these people another 60-day extension in their hotels, motels and temporary housing.

Change you can believe in?

What others are saying

  • This is perhaps the most xenophobic, racist, sickest, comment I have ever read on the internet. You are comparing Gods created people to parasites? Do you remember Rwanda? People were compared to cockroaches over the airwaves and thousands were left dead in the street. Hitler compared the Jews to rats, and millions were slaughtered. You calling your fellow man parasites spreads hate, fear, ignorance, and lies. You're disgusting and vile and no different than the people I just mentioned. I'm a missonary nurse that has provide humanitarian aid for displaced persons and have seen horrific scenes all over the world. I believe in a God. I believe that each person walking the face of this earth was created by him, loved by him, and wants the best for them. Walk lightly Neil, because its God's territory you have crossed. The only parasites on the planet are people who feed off the poor to line their greedy pockets. They use people like you to spread the hate so they can gain their riches and laugh behind your back. You're in the back pocket of propagandists and you call the people in New Orleans parasites? They're supported by the government but you're supported by advertisers and corporations. You are pot coloring the kettle black.
  • my goodness
Boortz: You are one seriously ignorant and callous individual.
  • New Orleans/Katrina
I live in New Orleans. Our home had 8 feet of water from the shoddy 17th Street Canal wall breaking after Hurricane Katrina. We moved back before we had electricity and lived like pioneers for a while until our house was rebuilt. Some thoughts about what you all are saying:
    1. Insurance companies screwed many of the people whose homes flooded after Katrina. For the most part, the adjusters were incompetent and they just wore people down until they accepted peanuts for the damages. It is sickening and disheartening what happened to so many people who just didn't know how to fight the insurance companies.
    2. The fact that there are still people living in hotels 3 1/2 years later is absolutely outrageous. They should be on their own by now.
    3. There are some terrible problems in New Orleans due to a)liberal policies that have developed an underclass of dependent people who are extremely adept at working the system and cannot take care of themselves. b) a truly awful mayor who has shut down mentally and seems determined to run our city into the ground before his term is up.
c)growing racial divisions fueled mainly by a small percentage of the African American population that believe all white people are out to get them. The hatred coming from these people is palpable and I can't even stress that enough. I truly want to understand where these peoples' anger is coming from, but I believe it has just been passed down through generations and it's a habit.
    4. To Neal: You have no clue what Hurricane Katrina actually did to New Orleans. You see the underbelly of the city that exposed its many parasites, yes. But what you didn't see--because you had no desire to look into it--was that it is a miracle that it is rebuilt as much as it is. The city lost 7 hospitals and countless other necessary establishments. Only because of the love we citizens have for our city, despite its racial problems and our crummy mayor, is this city still a very good place to live. Let's hope someday the government decides to cut the chord on the small percentage of dependent citizens and that they learn to take care of themselves. Until then, please try to find the incredible spirit of this city. Have you eaten at any of the world-class restaurants? Have you seen any of the many cultural events that we offer---music, theater, art? I do hope you come back on the air down here---but at least take the time to get to know New Orleans before you use such a broad brush to trash us.
  • TO HUGO'S GHOST
The really funny thing about that joke you referenced is that there is a lot of truth to it.
  • hey copyleft!
I never underestimate your ability to put the blame on George Bush for everything that happens anywhere in the world. I just wish you liberals would make up your mind, either he's an brillant, evil mastermind bent on enslavement of the world, destroying all the natural resources, and burning all the liberal heathens at the stake or he's an incompetent boob who can't say nuclear or tie his shoes.Your just like the islamic terrorist who kill anyone who disagrees with them and blames the dead for making them do it. Com'on copyleft make up your mind and give it a rest,Bush is gone but I know liberals cant let him go cause then they will have to take the blame for Obama's stupid mistakes. As long as you can say you inherited any problem from Bush then its not my fault. Your guy is in office now and Obama is destroying america on his own. So as you libbers like to say "MOVE ON!".....
  • Copyleft
I wonder how much of his money or time Copyleft voluntarily gave to help those "citizens" in New Orleans. Just curious.
  • No, Copyleft is an AJC blog troll..
That worthless liberal trashbag has been harassing conservatives on Wooten's blog for years.
  • Cold Mothers
Now that I am back from work I see the expected comments of "I did it so everyone can do it." No they can't. I have been self employed for 12 years due to my Borderline Personality Disorder and no, insurance companies won't write a policy for someone permanently on antidepressants. I go to the VA for health care after years of having none, though I still cannot get mental health care. I got one of those f'ed up loans and have made every payment on time, my fico is near 800. I am not a Katrina victim. I help take care of my elderly parents. If Katrina came to my area and interfered with me getting to work I would lose my house as I have no retirement and no savings. I just finished my taxes. 37,155 gross, profit 4420 for the year, and 11,246 each [two of us]. the house payment is 928 [125K].

Basically, I pay into 'the system' in case I need it and you pay into 'the system' in case you need it. I do not believe that everyone in this world can make it on their own these days. The vast majority of our homeless are people that used to be in state mental hospitals until they all closed down. Many homeless are veterans with PTSD. As an American I am not willing to throw the helpless, the less able, the old, the drug addicted, away like so much trash. One day that could be me. We spend more time judging people as stupid, parasites, etc. and then you can turn your feelings off. Let 'em die, I'll drive over their dead bodies in the street. You pay to put us in prison; you pay for higher crime, bad attitudes, etc or you pay to prevent problems. You pay either way, prevent or punish. It is financially stupid to not prevent problems but folks would just rather be cold. The emotional immaturity here is staggering. It just beats the hope right out of a person.
  • I Finally Figured it out.......
I know why Copy Left jumps on Neal so much, I believe he is an ex-talk show host for Air America. Just pissed because Neal made a go of it.
  • Your Replacement Stinks
Hey Neal. I've missed you since you were taken off the air here. You were replaced by what sounds like music from the 30's. Not to bad really, but it's no replacement for you. It would be nice to hear you on another station. This looser station owner will soon see his revenue drop like the mouths of Obama supporters when they finally realize what he's done to this country. Would love to hear you on FM. Anyways. HAPPY MARDI GRAS
  • copyleft
Copyleft you and people like you are the ones that are responsible for the hate. Stop Blaming Bush you don't live here and you don't Know how bad the gov is in this state the people that ran the city and state were dombocrats have you herd about road home she hired a out of state company tomanage the progam in stead of doin it with people here that were out of work and keep the money here and would have done it better and it would not takin 3 1/2 years but you libs no best. they did this C Ray Nagone to Dallas has the bigges ego has used the people as pawns playing the race card at every turn and kathrine Blanco told pres. Left people die while they hide. S T F UP A$$ hole you do not know what you are takling about go some where and get a que.
  • Helpless or Helping
I've seen many home owners who are tired of waiting on the insurance companies to settle up and have started working on their houses on their own. If you wait for insurance or the government you will always be disappointed.

I'm more talking about the non-homeowners who were probably on welfare even before katrina who just keep using it as an excuse to stay on welfare. Those are indeed parasites.
  • Nawlins
As a native who left Orleans many years ago but grew up there I feel obligated to comment. Yes the wellfare state in Orleans is a example of a problem that can't be solved with more money. Leader ship in the state and local politics has been lacking since the days of Huey and Earl Long. The state supplies most of the natural gas and oil to the USA so their is no shortage of money only honest leaders.(A honest politican in Louisiana is one who stays bought)On a recent vist to New Orleans in Dec,2008 much of the area looked as if Katrina had happened only 6mos. earlier. Cleaned up but not rebuilt. This can be blamed on piss-poor leadership,(Mayor Ray Nagin couldn't lead his own hand to find his butt) Most of the ones who returned are determinded to rebuild and are not wanting a handout but a hand up.Politiking is stalling most of the progress and the blame game is still on. The politicans should lead, follow, or get the hell out of the way!
  • Robin has a point
After reading Neal's opinion on the matter, you get the impression that most people in New Orleans are dead beats. Since I have some family there doing just fine, that's not the impression I got. There are a lot of folks there that got back on their feet themselves. A lot of the problem is that Mayor in New Orleans and the Governor of LA that isn't working for the people that unfortunately or not need government assistance.

However, there's no excuse for so many others after this amount of time to be sitting in hotels today. But I'd almost chalk that up to being another failure on Mayor Nagin's watch to oversee the rebuilding of public housing. I was there about 2 years after Katrina and there were still cars piled up under bridges because Nagin took his time to take action on having them remvoved.

You can blame the government properly using a blanket statement. Not the people.
  • katrina
Robin, many employer-sponsored insurance programs will provide coverage regardless of previous issues. My current coverage didn't even ask me about previous issues and its only $40/week for me as a single person, and family coverage is only about $100/week.
I work 3 jobs to stay out of the taxpayers pocket and independant. It CAN be done, regardless of circumstances. I wouldn't want to be in your shoes, but you don't have to stay in those shoes, either.
  • Atlantan by birth, New Orleanian by the Grace of GOD
That was just low class Boortz. I live in New Orleans, and 80% of this city evacuated on their own, and work their rear ends off to stay here. People work twice as hard to stay in their communities and try to help their neighborhoods here than any single person in Atlanta.
You don't have the faintest idea under God about what you speak when you paint with a broad brush.
  • New Orleans
Born and Raised here lived in and around here all my life. A city that you can go anywere in the world and they know Exactly were you are talking about. Personally I would not live anywre else the food the people fishing and huntimg out on Bays and lakes in south east Louisiana no were better but thats me. But you are right Neal some of our fair citizens they can be trying some times but I am mad as hell, I came home after 2 weeks in my other favorite city Baton Rouge not and started helping get business back up and running working for a small ref/AC company were the owner sole me the company in 07-01-06 and left to live in Alamaba jerk. but I should have follow what the dummer citizens did and let the gov. pay my bills for 3 1/2 years too because now I feel short changed. And now obama could keep this thing going on for ever just put a big STUPIDASS tatto to my fore head hell I could have been somewere drinking bud and eaten at fine restaurants like Burger king or Mcdees living at the holiday inn man I missed out all those days I could have been playing Intendo bet they were have a great time. BUT NO I HAD TO COME HOME AND GO TO WORK LIKE A DUMBASS and breathe all the toxic mole and the stench making me old before my time you can not help some people because they will not help themselves, they were on the public dole to begin with food stamps section 8 housing and free heathy care and the worst school in the world. They learn early to have as many chillans as they can and hope at least one has some kind of problem all the better so now you all know the dirty big secret about this great city it has been on downward spiral for the last 30 years and this last clown mayor wants his Chocolate city back and it aint gonna happen Nagin hide people died so wend can I get my check?
  • Joke and Robin
Mr. Hugo, that joke is wrong how? Seems more like a true statement than a joke, you just don't seem to be able to deal with it.

And Robin, I do not believe 90% of the people are doing the right thing. Look at the white and asian neighborhoods on the gulf coast. They've rebuilt already. Get out of your hotel room and look around sometime. Better yet, get out, get a job and stop spending MY money!!!
  • 60 days?
What would you bet that in 60 days, we add another 60?

How many times has the guvment extended for these parasites? And, why isn't there an outcry over this? These people are just deadbeats and they need to have their butts kicked to the curb. Or, if nothing else, start charging them rent. The free ride is over, pay up or leave!
  • Joke??
Gawd, you are a pathetic little girl, Miss Hugo's Ghost!
  • Hold Up Hugo
Now the question may be a little insensitive, but you know, there have been a lot of people that have asked that very question. If there was a problem then make your point, but like some many other things, all you can do is make a smartass remark. you haven't enlightened us as to why we should not ask this question. OH NO! You can only come up with some off the cuff silly a** remark.

BTW, he has brought this up to Royal, ( I've heard the discussion) and if memory serves me right, Royal kinda wondered the same thing.

Pathetic? The only thing pathetic is the fact that we can't even ask the questions we need to fix the problems. No, rather then take a look at what Neal is asking, the PC police have showed up and this is just another white guy being a racist.

One day some of you will grow up and be able to sit at the big people table.
  • Politics
Robbins, I remember the CNN coverage for Ike and sat watching U.S. Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee started complaining that the Bush administration failed in its response in Houston even before the hurricane hit!
  • NOLA "Parasites"
HOD ON DAR TIGER! While there might be many as you describe, there were many whose homes were insured against hurricane damage that have YET to collect ... 42 months later. Why ... insurance companies are saying that WATER SURGE is different than the hurricane, and while these people paid their monthly hurricane damage premium, insurance says that if they can't prove that it wasn't the water rather than the wind, they can't collect. Subsequently, many remain in their FEMA trailers as these claims make their way through court. A friend of mine had a million dollar house near the beach, and got a check from their insurer for $20K for "roof damage", when all that was left was the concrete slab. No parasites them.
  • @ Robin
I very much have considered others life view. I just don't want to be asked to pay for it. Using your logic:

If I make a bad investment, shame on me. But if you make a bad investment, I should be on the hook. I am sorry you have had some unfortunate circumstances. I have had some bad luck as well. I was orphaned at age 7, with no family to care for my sister and me. My parents left us nothing. We moved from foster home to foster home. I was putting myself through college (21 years old) when my sister was diagnosed with breast cancer (age 19). I cared for her for 3 years before she died. Not once did I ask for the government to help. My church helped, I received aid from charitable organizations, but not the government. So don't try to tell me that it cannot be done. I am 32 years old now and have a family. We rely upon ourselves to provide for our family, not the government. Grow up and stop being a victim. Start taking control of your life, and responsibility for the decisions you make (poor or good).
  • MIchael has a valid point....
Wall street will in the end cost tax payers more money. More jobs would have actually been created in the long run if the Wall Street would not have been bailed out.
  • Katrina farce
My company held an event in NO last October. They flew 150 of us in early as we volunteered to do some community service. We were assigned to repaint an elementary school and clean up the playground equipment.

I worked on the playground clean up team. We fixed equipment and applied new finishes to it. Over the course of this activity I found a plaque indicating the *entire* playground was a donation made to the school immediately *after* Katrina.

Help me understand again what we were doing flying in for a post-Katrina volunteer event?

I can find a dozen schools in my home town which are in similar disrepair and could use a volunteer day.
  • Katrina & such
If the hotels and other housing is going to have to kick these people out, better call the National Guard now and get them ready.

Robin, sorry dear, mental health and disability is not a reason why people can not find work. I, like many of my brothers and sisters injured in the war, am still able to hold down a full time job and got to school regardless of the fact that I am missing a leg and have PTSD and a Traumatic Brain Injury that affects me evry single day. It's all about attitude and self confidence.

The majority have none, and continue to suck the benefits out from the men and women who have fought and died for their freedom to do so. Which, bye the way, the Warriors of this country are reluctant to take what they have earned, and allow themselves to get the minimum.
    Your Welcome!
  • The rest of the story
It's easy to assume everyone getting assistance is a parasite. I own a duplex in New Orleans that I rent out. Both sides are being rented by families who are homeowners themself. The reason they are renting is because The insurance companies have yet to pay them for their damages.

I myself have had to pay out of my own pocket for my repairs. Fortunately I had enough saved up to do that. My total amount of repairs was over 300k.
I'm still waiting on a settlement with my insurance company.

I had 8 adjusters come out over the first 8 months after the Katrina. The insurance company decides to go with the lowest adjuster. This guy was our 4th adjuster and said I only had 30k in damage. The rest have said anywhere from 150k to 350k in damage.

So instead of taking a few examples and applying them to all. Try looking at the insurance companies. My solution? Have these insurance companies pay off these outstanding claims before putting their name in front of a sporting event. Have them all pay into a fund that pays for the rentals instead of having the feds pay it. It's not realistic to expect the average family to have 100k or more in savings. That's why we al pay that insurance premium.

Sidenote to the comment about Houston and hurricane Ike. Apples and Oranges is a phrase that comes to mind for some reason. I don't recall hearing about Houston being under water for a month. I don't recall the dollar amount in Damages being anywhere in the ballpark of the amount from Katrina.

I will admit there are things New Orleans/ Louisiana could and should have done different. I blame most of the slow recovery on former Governor Blanco, Current idiot Mayor Nagin and last but not least on The Insurance Companies.
  • Ahh, coded racism
At least we've forced you to resort to codes now. Words like "parasite" and "thug," instead of what you REALLY want to say.

Me, I've got another word for the displaced New Orleans folks... "citizens." Citizens who have been screwed and abandoned by the government that was supposed to serve them.

I hope Obama can add their plight to his long list of Bush-caused disasters needing prompt attention, but there's plenty of competition for a slot on that list.
  • Larger hole in your wallet?
Hey Tax Paying Citizen! We've already bailed Wall Street with about $700 billion of your money! Did they create jobs? Yes, they used to and they will again someday. But how much will us taxpayers end up having to pay for each of those jobs? It is a poor return on investment and the government has no business 'creating' jobs anyway!
  • Hey Hugo Chavez Ghost -
    That "joke" is fairly accurate.

I would bet half my money that if about 1 month before Hurricane Katrina, Jay Z, Ludacris, or any other braindead rapper thug offered a free concert 80 miles outside of New Orleans, I bet you all of these parasites would have found the motivation or a way to get to that concert. I guarantee it. But when warned that a CAT 5 storm is approaching for 7 days, they couldn't find transportation!!
  • Hey Robin -
"Da di da da..." What's that sound? That's the sound of the world's smallest violin playing for you. "Some have mental health problems that prevent us from getting insurance"... That's fairly obvious.
  • Robin & Hugo
Hugo, was that really necessary to even repeat that crap? Feel better and all justified now? Jerk.

Robin, the losers in Katrina WERE sorry. If I had known a hurricane was coming 5 days away and couldn't find transport I would have been walking out of there!!! Need to hang Ray Nagin for not getting those busses running. I am sick of hearing about Katrina. That was a completely unnecessary event and there is still no reason for those people to continue living in taxpayer provided housing. Getting sick of this forced charity crap, if that makes me bad in your eyes so be it. Just get out of my pocket!!!
  • It makes SENSE!
Look, these people are perfect representatives of people wanting a nanny state and they are actually living it! They get their beds made and their rooms cleaned daily by someone else, while the public pay for them to stay in a hotel/motel! I bet they even get the free breakfast buffet too! What's more nanny state than that! I bet they complain that their free cable tv doesn't get enough HBOs, no free porn, and why can't they get room service.
  • Why pay if you can get it for free?
Cut off the freebie and they'll get along some other way. Always have, always will.
  • Your sad little joke
Why didn't you post your little joke in it's original emailed form? You know, this one:

"“How can 2,000,000 blacks get into Washington, DC in 1 day in sub zero temps when 200,000 couldn't get out of New Orleans in 85 degree temps with four days notice?”

Try telling that to Royal to his face. I'm sure he'd laugh his ass off. Go ahead, Mr. Insensitive.

God, you are a pathetic little man, Mr. Boortz.
  • New Orleans parasite Michael
Hey Michael - what's the difference between deadbeats and wall street? Well allow me to clear that up for you. Wall Street can employ people, deadbeats just mug people and suck the lifeblood out of society. Did that clear it up for you?

Personally I don't think either should have gotten a dime. But if I had to choose, I choose the group that can create jobs and wealth over the group that creates a larger hole in my wallet.

Any other rich people you want to talk bad about? Go tell your boss, who I'm assuming isn't a homeless person from Katrina's wrath, that you think he or she sucks because they have the ability to give you a job. Then learn about how to sign up for a room in the Obamamotel down the street. It should be easy to find, just follow the smell.
  • This is just ugly
Many of us 'nonachievers' that are unprepared for disasters, whether they are hurricanes or financial, have legitimate reasons that hold us back from being judged 'worthy' by all the puffed up indignant 'I did everything right' people. Some of us have mental health problems that prevent us from getting insurance written. Some of us have sick loved ones to care for. Many of us have been financially swindled by the Maddoff types. For all the people that you focus on that abuse 'the system' there are 10 more that aren't. You never address the 90% of us that are doing the best we can but still need some help. Why must you lump the good majority of us with the 10% that you constantly focus on? The 10%, or really even the entire group of us 'losers' still don't cost this country as much as Wall St swindlers and the Madoff's that wrecked everyone's retirement accounts. Name calling people as a group shows that you haven't really considered anyone's lifeview but your own. Not only that, it isn't entertaining to those of us that are struggling to keep up. Frankly, you invite listeners to join you in judging people as a group based on a small percentage of the group. I want to listen more but really, stop calling me names. It doesn't hurt my feelings but it is discouraging and why would I want to listen to this day in and day out? Neal is a bummer. Go back to pushing the Fair Tax.
  • New Orleans
I am from the New Orleans area, and I miss ytour show terribly. Any hope of getting on another outlet?
  • New Orleans parasites/Wall Street welfare queens!
What's the difference between the parasites of NO and the welfare queens of Wall Street? The bailout of AIG and Citi will cost us taxpayers a whole lot more and will do more harm to our county and economy!
  • New Orleans
Here in Houston....where Hurricane Ike hit last September....it's difficult to find any evidence at all that a hurricane actually hit here.....the repairs are all done, business as usual virtually everywhere, and the only deadbeats we have to worry about are those 'refugees' left over from Katrina that won't go back to New Orleans....but of course,we voted twice for GW here,so I guess that means we lack 'compassion' for all those retards in New Orleans who think that Baroque Obozo will take care of them indefinitely
