WE ARE GETTING CLOSER TO GOVERNMENT HEALTHCARE

One step at a time, in the days leading up to an Obama presidency .. we are getting closer and closer to government healthcare in this country. The latest step is the House passage of the Children's Health Insurance Plan bill (SCHIP). Now it's off to the Senate for approval. Then it is off to Obama's desk for him to sign once he is sworn in.

Don't forget that this is the bill Henry Waxman says, "This bill is a down payment, a down payment on health care for all Americans." Healthcare for all Americans is just another way of saying "healthcare that is run by the government."

Forty Republicans in the House said yes to the bill, despite some of the following criticisms ..

First of all, Republicans had little to no input into the bill. There's something they are going to have to get used to. Republicans claim that the bill would allow states to enroll families with incomes upwards of $80,000. Another reason they opposed the bill was because of "a provision in the measure that would lift a ban on providing the benefit to legal immigrants who have resided in the United States for less than five years." And finally, they were upset with a provision that would prohibit doctors from referring patients to hospitals that they (the doctors) have an ownership interest in. So we are talking about physician-owned hospitals. The private sector shall have a limited role in health care - how dare these providers of medical care actually own a facility for providing medical care? This makes about as much sense as forbidding a mechanic from owning the garage where he works.

As Waxman says, this bill is a down payment. This gets the foot in the door. And it is all happening without many Americans even batting an eye or picking up a phone to call their Senators.

What others are saying

  • Gov health Care
Look close at Medicare, Va and other programs. This will be from the same bunch that gives you. FEMA,Fannie and Freddie!
  • Calling Senators
    "call?
"picking up a phone to call their Senators."
If I thought it would do any good I'd camp out on his door step, but it won't. Why would he listen to me? He knows I'm in the statistical noise. I've seen elections where everyone I voted for from dog catcher on up lost. Face it, the problem isn't the Senators... it's the populace at large. If you can't convince them, calling your Senator is worthless."

I agree whole heartedly. The $700 Billion bailout proved that to me once and for all. I can't even begin to say how much time I waisted on that one. Why should I waist my time? We have lost control of the government. The politicians don't care what we have to say anymore. It has become too powerful for the people to stand up to. I stand here with my head in my hands as I watch my country fall into something that it was NEVER supposed to be. The only two options that I can even see are either revolution or finding somewhere else to try and improved upon what was started here with this country and this political system. Obviously this political system wasn't impervious to the rigors that have brought down the other great civilizations and could use some improving.
  • Gov't healthcare
any CITIZEN OF THIs COUNTRY elected AS A republican THAT VOTES yes ON THIS HEALTH CARE GAME NEEDS TO BE TAKEN TO THE WOODSHED THEN dismissed
  • I have HAVE contacted my Senators
But do my Senators have the necessary votes to stop this dreadful legislation?

Boy, we sure shot personal freedom and self-government in the foot with this last election. Secession anyone?
  • Profits
Hey "By a father", it's the profits that allow new drugs and new medical techniques to be researched and developed! Are you brain dead? Medicine isn't a friggin charity!
  • I surely missed the train...
and here I was reading this 'out-dated' text, thinking we were a Constitutional Republic, and couldn't find Universal Healthcare (tm) anywhere in the simple to read text. Sure glad the oligarchy knows how best to spend the money I 'contribute' in taxes better than I do!
  • Put my grandchildren first
So my daughter can drop them from her insurance and have the money she needs to buy the big, energy sucking HDTV she wants. We are all grateful that we now have a president that wants to do the "right thang".
    YeeHaw
  • SCHIP
It's for the children ! Once we sign up the entire next generation it's done. They are in government health care for life. They will be raised on it and by the time they reach adulthood at 25 the law will be changed to require government care for all adults. Mission accomplished.
  • call?
"picking up a phone to call their Senators."

  • Where's the parent's responsibility?
"It is about time we have a President that will do the right thing and put children first not the profits of the health care and insurance industries."

Heaven forbid the PARENTS actually put the child first....but their kid is supposed to be my top priority.
  • Keep in Mind though...
Talked with one of my Dr.s about this recently and I asked what his practice will do WHEN Gvmnt healthcare arrives. He tells me he'll retire. Doesn't want the Gubba Mint to tell him what he can practice and how much he can charge the Feds. Insurance Companies are already doing this, don't need another stick in the mud.
  • "It is about time we have a President that will do the right thing and put children first not the profits of the health care and insurance industries."

Healthcare and insurance companies are businesses. And now it looks like the Fed is also in the healthcare business. One thing: instead of making money and becoming a self-sustaining entity, it will be giving money away and losing taxpayer dollars. Refer to Pepper's post....
  • Schip
Five years? Why should illegal immigrants or their children ever receive funds. I realize it isn't the kid's fault but when will it end? I pay too much as it is!
  • Money
One problem with this sort of thing is TARP. Now that we've handed $700 billion to bankers, every liberal Earth is saying that this justifies socialized medicine. TARP has become the Moonshot of its day.
  • Schip
My problem with this bill is the HUGE loophole defining "income". We have friends with a kid in this program. They have very little earned income. However, they have a trust fund over $2mil and live in a $750,000 home.
Of course, this bill is the foot in the door to government health care, which will be great. If you don't believe me, ask a veteran who is subjected to VA healthcare.
They ought to rename this Socialized Healthcare In Total.
  • At Last
It is about time we have a President that will do the right thing and put children first not the profits of the health care and insurance industries.
  • Schip
Don't forget, this bill raises the official age of a "child" to 25. I guess that means Bill Clinton is officially a child molester.
  • Interesting comment.....
This sounds like a certain book I have read......Hopefully the doctors will shrug when government finally takes over health care.
