I wasn't going to dwell on this today, but when our own personal editorial cartoonist, Joel Samuelson, came up with this gem of a logo I couldn't resist. It seems that the stock market recorded a record inauguration day fall yesterday. So ... for your entertainment .. the new Obama logo:

What others are saying

  • Dow
The DOW is a foretelling sign that from now on, it will be down hill all the way, really fast if we left Obama and his administration have their way. It's time for Americans who love freedom to rise up and fight against corrupted government with Obama being the Chief of corruption!!!!!
  • The Market Does What it Does
The stock market is a complex system that no single person or event (except catastrophes, which will usually cause market closures) can affect. Neither George nor Obama have that kind of power and the market is going to do what the market does regardless of their policies.
  • Stock Market
If your cartoonist wants to make such a comparison, he needs to know that the earlier administration should be shown in his cartoon as well since the first 2 1/2 hours of the day were under the old administration. How about doing one of the cartoons for the first full day of the Obama administration? The market is up 279.01 today. Let's see the January 21st cartoon!
  • Gableism again
Gable the cartoon is dated for inauguration day...not a presidential term. If you want to campare, George W. Bush's inauguration in 2001 the Dow went from 10952.18 to 10857.59 or -94.59 or -0.9%. Please control your hatred Stan ol'boy.
  • CNN Headline
This is classic, stock market goes up, it's the 'Obama Effect', stock market goes down, it's just the way things are.

I recall shortly after the election, seeing an actual headline on CNN that, as the markets had a good day, it was the 'Obama effect!'. Classic!
  • correlation
Correlation DOES NOT EQUAL causation. Looking only at statistics you cannot infer anything by trends. We can make guesses, nothing more.
  • Where is the Present button?
Now that Bush is gone and you can't simply blame Bush for everything, what would Obama do? Quick! Somebody bring him a Present button.
  • Stock market
“The market's reaction had nothing to do with Obama or Bush.”

It sure was a differant story when you could blame it on BUSH. As a matter of fact, when Obama stays quite for a while, the market goes up, he opens his mouth and it drops. Folks, if your going to blame the man in office when he isn't the one you voted for, you can't change the rules when is your guy. LIbs were blaming BUSH before he even took office back in 2000. See how the game works.
  • Another Cartoon
You think there is one of these for George Bush except it is from 2001 thru 2008?
  • Dow falling
Funny cartoon but the market doesn't work like that. When the media makes it seem like anything Bush did or Obama will do has an instant change in the market is ridiculous.
  • Uhhh....Bill?
The dow usually drops on inauguration day...the point is that this was the WORST drop in 44 years on inauguration day. It shows that investors and business owners do not have confidence in the president.
  • BS
“The market's reaction had nothing to do with Obama or Bush.”

And how do YOU Know this?
  • So the Bush logo...
Has the dow dropping some 3000 points.

That is, if we're going to be petty and try to link the completely independant stock market driven by frenzied day traders to the politician in power at the time.
  • Joel Rocks!
I love Joel's cartoons! He should do more of them HINT HINT!!

We'll see what happens the rest of the week with the Dow....
  • Who is John Galt?
Get used to it with this Socialist Dumbazz in charge.
  • The markets are off in their own land.
The market's reaction had nothing to do with Obama or Bush.

Ladies and Gentlemen, this is why you shouldn't listen to Talk Radio hosts about economics or investing - they know nothing. Listen to Clark.
  • Fall of the Dow
    Brilliant cartoon.
Not only is it the biggest fall on an inauguration day, the Dow has experienced the biggest decline, both in real dollars and as a percentage of total value, since the election.
Business confidence in B. Husseing Obama?
    I think not!
