The 111th Congress convenes today. Oh joy. It will be a Congress led by Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid. Nancy Pelosi, by the way, is trying to re-write the House rules, reversing Newt Gingrich's "Contract with America." The purpose behind the new rules promulgated by the aging hollow eyed hippie from Haight-Ashbury is to completely emasculate the Republicans - somehow I think she has a lot of experience along these lines. The new rules say no alternative bills from GOP members, no amendments to Democrat bills and no guarantee of open debate. This will be the Congress that will allow funnyman Al Franken to take a seat but deny entry to Roland Burris. The fact that Al Franken has been declared the winner is, by the way, an atrocity. You remember, I hope, the details of that "recount" in Minnesota I shared with you yesterday. Anyway .. the game is on. BOHICA.

What others are saying

  • Congressional Term limits
OK, now I get the drill. If this week's doo-doo coming out of Washington isn't proof positive that we urgently need Congressional term limits, then we are all nuts. Reid, Pelosi and even the beautiful California queen (maybe drag?) Diane Fienstein think their power is unlimited and even greater than PEBO's. Heck, he even apologized to her!! TERM LIMITS Neal!! Are you listening??
  • Send in the Stooges and save our country
Send in the Clowns? No compliments necessary. Harry, Pelosi and don't talk
with your mouth full Franks? Our country would be much better off with Moe,Larry and Curly. Barack and his Obamuppets won't be fun to watch.
  • The Conservative Base
"perhaps the Conservative Base can regroup and get its act together."

Yeah. I hear they want to argue again the Schiavo debacle. Maybe when the conservatives have an act they can get it together. They are, after all, the party of fiscal responsibility aren't they?
  • The coming Democrat dictatorship
The remnents of Republican ‘leadership’ in the House, submitted a ‘protest’ if you can call it that.
    The letter, found here: http://www.humanevents.com/downloads-pdfs/Letter%20to%20Pelosi.pdf,
is one of the most spineless, feeble, prissy excuses for an outcry I’ve ever read.

They’re screwing around with niceties like this:

“This does not represent change; it is reverting back to the undemocratic one-party rule and backroom deals that the American people rejected more than a decade ago. And it has grave implications for the American people and their freedom, coming at a time when an unprecedented expansion of federal power and spending is being hastily planned by a single party behind closed doors. Republicans will vigorously oppose repealing these reforms if they are brought to a vote on the House floor.”

All of which is tantamount to “pretty please, don’t stifle our vote”.

What they should do is threaten a revolt similar to the House filibuster in August of 2008, when the Democrats fled to their homes rather than stick around and help solve the fuel price crisis.

Invite Republican constituents into the chambers to join in on the protest, and this time, raise some real hell.

The jackbooted demnazis are in power, and are marching through our legislature. What Pelosi and company are attempting to do is violate the rights of the Republican members of Congress and Senate, as well as the electorate they represent.

Welcome to 4 years of Socialist America.
  • Sully and Carlos
Sully, we haven't been representative by our elected officials for quite some time and there has yet to be any revolution. Carlos is right, if we don't do something about this, it will just continue and we deserve it.
  • Republicans and Democrats
Funny we can elect them but can't fire them.
  • One or the other
To be honest, I'd rather have the draconian rule-altering of Pelosi and her gang than the child-molesting and felony-level bribe-accepting of prominent Congressional Republicans such as Ted Klaudt, Mark Foley and Ted Stevens.

    Door swings both ways folks.
  • You get what you pay for.
Let's not complain too much. We now have the best congress money can buy. How many of these posters contributed one dime to the campaigns of conservatives in the past election?
  • Isn't Nancy Pelosi's actions' here a little on the facist side? One party running the government and not letting anyone else have any say what-so-ever by completely eliminating and silencing any opposition's voice? Sounds extreme to me but what do I know... I only work and pay taxes.
  • Stan's ridiculous imagination
Do you actually think what you say is important enough for the govt to be wire tapping you? Would you feel safer if machine guns were still banned? Ever heard of pistols, knives, etc? What a world you must belong to!
  • approval ratings
Is it any surprise congress has had some of the lowest approval ratings ever with these people in charge? Yet the voting public put MORE of these jokers in there? The only good thing that can come of this is a rude awakening.

I like the house of ill repute comment. I agree.
  • This seems wrong, and is asking for trouble
If Pelosi gets her way, this would appear to deny representation to citizens who elected Republicans. Taxation without representation led to a revolution once upon a time. If Pelosi gets her way in the House, the Dems will get NO cooperation from Repubs in the Senate.
  • The "No" Congress
I believe that with such a group of "characters," it is quite unlikely that anything will occur in the next 2/4 years. Lack of leadership, lack of loyalty, lack of creativity... yeah this will be a sleigh ride to nowhere! With that in mind, perhaps the Conservative Base can regroup and get its act together.
  • *Stan* is wrong?
I would think it would be the outgoing administration that is in favor of concentration camps...verdad, amigo?
  • Clowns
Sounds like Stan is just plain afraid!
  • Stan's Wrong--Congress is Now Much Worse than Before
Yeah, Stan Gable. And using your technique of ridiculous overstatement, you must now also be very careful of disaggreeing with your Democrat Congress that wants to stifle all dissenting opinions...otherwise, it's off to the concentration camp for you.
  • What to call the new House?
Given the bad (sick?) reputation of many of the members (Pelosi, Barney Frank, etc), I suggest that we officially call them the "House of Ill Repute".
  • Congress
Cannot be worse than the last few congresses we have had. I would call this in, but I am afraid the government is tapping into my phones via the Patriot Act. I would walk it in, but I am too afraid that someone who has a machine gun, which used to be banned, will come after me.
