Oh, what a surprise this is. Now we have Obama telling us that because of the recession he is going to have to take much of his campaign agenda (campaign promises) and set those promises aside. Aren't you just amazed? This man promised what he needed to promise to be elected - and then all of that just goes aside. Politics as usual.

What others are saying

  • campaign promises
As the Ace of Spades sez, just remember that Obamas promises all come with an expiration date.
  • I just love it when.....
....someone says something about this earthly-god, obama.....

The first thing the left does it go back to 1942 or 1977...

We're not in the past, people.......

We're talking about the present.....with obama...

you leftist can continue to go to the past when debating issues.....it seems THATS the only way you can attempt to make a valid argument......

But us righties....we'll stay in the present and worry about these problems that will inevitably effect our future....

    Go ahead........go back 3 or 4 presidents...idiot.....

Q : You do know that obama is a liar and a pretender dont you?? That he can never do half of what he says...

A : Well, what about when Jenna Bush had a booger hanging out her nose when she was 10!!...

THATS how pathetically insipidly moronic you leftist sound...
  • One difference between GOP and dp promises.
The GOP is held accountable. As stan gable pointed out(apparentlty he never heard of Newt Gingrich and the Contract With America), GOP politicians are rejected when they break campaign promises, dp politicians are excused, no matter what they do. What ends a GOP politician's career is "successful strategy," for the dp.

It's fun watching the standards flip when the party in question changes. I can't wait until barney frank gives us another floor speech on the treason of dissent, like he did during the bombing of Serbia (back when it was okay to bomb a country with no congressional vote or UN approval).
We found more women and children in one of saddam's mass graves than in all of Kosovo. Yet we will likely be out of Iraq, where we have a strategic interest, before we are out of Kosovo, where we have none. This is going to be entertaining, if nothing else.
  • Obama
So, SRH, get a thesaurus for Christmas?

Obama reacts to an extraordinary crisis and changes his approach so as to deal with it? Heaven forefend!!! Why, politicians should be "The Decider" and let no amount of facts to the contrary sway them!. Yeah, that's worked out well.

He's already said he is considering delaying letting the Bush tax cuts "sunset." Should that make you greedheads happy?
  • Tax Increases
Another campaign he will break is no tax increases on people under $250,000. With the SCHIP bill he wants to sign, it uses a permanent tax increase for a temporary program. It increases the per pack tax from $0.39 to $1.00. Thus, a tax increase on any smoker making less than $250,000.

I'm a non-smoker but it's still a tax increase any way you look at it. Also, it's ironic to pay for a health bill on the backs of smokers (who are likely to get sick)
  • SRH
Well, no one is too surprised i'm sure to find that BO is already starting to backtrack on the promises he made. However, if you want to make a point, it helps if you use language you are comfortable and familiar with. Don't try to make yourself sound smarter than you really are. Unfortunately, a lot of the big words you used were misspelled or used incorrectly, and the sentence construction was horrible. Maybe you should try a different flavor kool-aid.
  • That is great news!
As Jim S. mentions, that is great news! What promises did BO make that you will be sad to see go by the wayside?

The funny things is that many of us on the Right or Libertarians have been expecting BO to be a complete and total disaster. So we are pleasantly surprised that so far he has not been as pathetic as we were afraid he would be.

I will give you that Holder is a horrible choice but at least he did not appoint John F. Kerry as Secretary of Defense!
  • Hear hear SRH!!!
Impressive vocabulary for a board such as this.

Now, does anyone get it? All campaigners break promises, but PEBO won by saying that "HE" would be different. And what are we going to do about it? So what? Come on people, we have to start calling ALL the criminals, er, I mean campaigners on their word!!! Get active.
  • Car Salesman
Bait and Switch. Looks like we are getting the Family Truckster when all along we were anticipating the Arctic Blue Wagon with the Rally Fun Package.

"You think you hate it now, but wait til you drive it!"
  • And so Obama joins the ranks...
Of every single American president in history. News you can use!

Every president promises the moon and delivers nothing. Every president says they're going to bring decency back to politics. Every single one of them is a liar, and this is no surprise to anyone. Singling Obama out in this crowd is like pointing to a single pig in a sty and saying "Look at that dirty pig!"

Political discourse in this country has become nothing more than catharsis for a bunch of sore losers, whichever side it happens to be in the given cycle.
  • James K. Polk
Is the only President to keep all of his campaign promises... and it killed him! So it can be done.
  • So What - 2
My apologies, I forgot that Ronald Regan did mange to keep the majority of his campaign promises. Oh, by the way SRH, I do like Kool-Aid and find it very refreshing. It was my favorite drink when I was a wee lad in public school.
  • Why Should He Be Different
It's the same-old-same-old and the uneducated, give-me-everything voters never learn. Does anyone remember Bill Clinton's promised tax cut? As soon as he was elected he gave us the BS that "he'd never worked as hard on anything in his life but he just couldn't give us the tax cut".
  • So What
Rather than advancing our America by demanding that its politicians remain firm in their utterances and holding them accountable to their decrees, your feeble response to Boortz is “so what?” What kind of farcical charity is that? Did at any time Boortz promote political honesty of others. The point here is that PEBO’s chief dais was that of revolutionizing the political norm, breaking the mold, which he more aptly masqueraded as CHANGE because simple-minded, imperceptive numbnuts such as the “So What” crowd can only be au fait with minimalism. Without a doubt, in his sculpted nomination process, BO shrewdly harvested support from the far left liberals with his authentic teleprompter speechifying unambiguously stanchioned by his analogous track record to which should have nauseated most conservatives. Cacophonously, following this ill-fated conquest, BO’s tide deceivingly, but appositely, convexed into a charade of moderacy exclusively stupefying pubescent opposition and flummoxing all the remaining dolts deficient moral code and sagacity. He, however, can not be solely credited with this byzantine scheme. That award would go to that fly-by, leftist biased, now to be proven useless and dead, media with its incessant proclamations of Bush’s ignominy, as spurious as they were, and the invincibility and imperviousness of BO to chronicled, sordid associations and scandals regardless of verity. In the same manner as BO ran his deceitful campaign, this charlatan, with much aid from baselessly venerated media, continues to carry out his connive by appointing so-called moderates to menial positions, recycling Clintonian cronies, and artfully choosing a renowned pastor to give his invocation. But really… So What. Keep drinkin’ that Kool-Aid.
  • Campaign Promises?
Reminds me of the little boy in elementary school, running for class president on a campaign to eliminate homework and include free icecream for lunch. You know it isn't true but it sounds good anyway......and it gets the votes.
  • I predicted this...
...months before the Democrat convention even. However, McCain would have broken all his promises also. With or without this economic crisis that was completely made-up by the media, both Obama and McCain would have found some convenient excuse, the same way Bush and Clinton did, and all those before them.
  • A Good Thing (tm)
Considering the sort of garbage obamalamadingdong has promised, having him back off is probably the best thing he could do for the country.... other than quit. ;-)
  • Change
If they put Obama on the currency, it'd have to be a Penny, becuase he's not worth a plug nickel.
  • You should be happy
Neal, you should be happy for this. Breaking promises is usually a republican strategy.

  • PEBO SHELVING HIS CAMPAIGN AGENDA.
PEBO isn't even in office and the wheels are coming off the bus. This is going to quickly become a 'Dallas' "...it was all a dream..." moment - and the reaction is going to bepretty ugly.
  • Camp pain age gender?
Why would anyone be surprised - campaign promises aren't worth the paper they're printed on. This is NOT a change.

Change I can believe in: $.85 - two quarters, 3 dimes and a nickel (carefully stored under the couch).

What this country needs is a good, five-cent nickel.
  • So What
Boortz, name a career politician who actually delivered what was promised?
