THE BOORTZ CAVEAT

While listening to The Neal Boortz show or reading Nealz Nuze there is a strong likelihood that you will hear or read material that is critical of Barack Obama or the liberal agenda. In keeping with the dictates of political correctness it is hereby acknowledged that any critical comments by Neal Boortz, a white guy, of Barack Obama, a black guy; or any comments critical of the Democrat agenda, is, by default, hate speech.

So we now have the benefit of PEBO's* general position on a plan to stimulate our economy. Government shall be our savior. We shall not want. More specifically, government spending. About $800 billion (probably more) will be created out of thin air and then spent by politicians and their cronies in an effort to get our economy moving. PEBO has decided that our economy can be stimulated by purchasing computers for teachers and building windmills.

Obama's stimulus plan is very little more than a plan to enhance and solidify the power of the Imperial Federal Government over our economy at the expense of the private sector and free markets.

Is there a better idea out there? You bet there is, and it came from the 1st Congressional District of Texas. We've talked about this great idea several times on the show ... and after Obama's speech its time to bring it up again.

Texas Congressmen Louie Gohmert notes that the federal government collects about $100 billion in income taxes every month, plus another $60 billion in Social Security and Medicare taxes. If those of you who are government educated have a calculator handy, you'll see that this adds up to about $160 billion a month. Now if you divide Obama's proposed $800 billion stimulus plan by $160 billion, you'll come up with five. This means that our government will collect $800 billion in income and payroll taxes from February through June of 2009.

So, Gohmert asks, instead of bureaucrats and politicians deciding how all of this money is going to be spent, why not let the people who actually worked for this cash make their own independent spending decisions for this money. How would you do that? Simple: declare a five-month tax holiday. From February through June everybody keeps their paycheck. No income tax withholding ... no payroll taxes. No income or payroll taxes owed. What will the people do with this money? What, are you crazy? They'll spend it, that's what. And they'll spend it on the stuff that they want! Not the stuff Obama promised during his campaign. Talk about stimulating the economy!

Either way $800 billion gets poured into our economy!!!

Is there a detriment to the Gohmert plan? You betcha! And the flaw is fatal. If you declare a full tax holiday people are actually going to figure out how much they earn. No more of this "take home pay" nonsense. You get your whole paycheck. Now just imagine what happens in July with the withholding starts again.

Revolt.

    Some people will spend the money, stimulating the economy. Some will save or invest it, giving banks more money to lend and prop up stock prices. And some will make bad loans good.

    I think the fair tax sounds great and I also think the 6 month tax holiday sounds like a great idea. My question is...who is sponsoring this and how do we get heard? I'm so tired of listening to all of the suggestions but no action is ever taken. We have no representation in congress...the pretty much do what they think "the American People" want. If I hear one more politician say that I think I will vomit!
    So, who's doing what to make our voices heard??
  • economic benefit
    While this isn't "change", it's not without economic benefit in the short term. All these projects WILL pour money into projects that will most likely involve private contractors. The computers aren't going to made or supported by teachers. The windmills might be fabricated in China, but they will be assembled and operate in the USA.

    So you'll see some short term benefit in capital driving into projects at a time when there isn't much expansion going on. However, the long term cost probably outweighs any short term benefit. I'd like to see someone (probably had been done) do a detailed study on how much economic cost is associated with deficit spending, especially when we already service 10 trillion worth of debt. How much tax dollars go to service existing debt. How much will spending more now cost in increased debt payments? How much will that increased drain on the overall GDP of the country affect future economic growth?

    Outside of any libertarian gripes with the role of government to begin with, I think there is plenty to be said about how spending more of what you don't have, after you've been spending what you don't have for decades, is probably bad no matter what short term economic benefit it brings.

    Who REALLY wants to talk about downsizing, though? On the Left, you get wild cries about taking food out of the mouths of poor people or abandoning our obligations to our (children, elderly, you name it). On the Right you'll get cries about any cut in projected spending increases in the Defense arena as weakening America, hating America, being France, ect.

    We need to tighten the belt. When I see billions dumped into US defense spending in places like S. Korea (economy 50 times larger than N. Korea), Europe, and other far flung locations, I am shocked. These countries can and should pay for their own defense. Instead we do it and get sucked into brushfire conflicts around the globe with no net benefit to anyone except US presidents who get to stand center in every photo op with foreign leaders. We need to stop talking about new social programs and curtail the ones we have.

    Cutting taxes really isn't going to fix anything. It's the same short term mentality that has us in more debt than most people (including me) can really comprehend.

    How audasius of you to think that our magnifcient governtment does not know what is best for us. They will take care of us from the cradle to the grave and we should be forever thankful that htey have chosen to ENSLAVE us for only their gain. The hateful FAIRTAXACT will take away their precious power and make them just like the mindless and willess sheeple that keep them in the congress to provide life existence.

    Broke Laid-off, not sure if you missed my cynicism, or if you are agreeing with me.. I, like you, can't wait for the day where we adopt the fair tax plan. I think (hope) it is only a matter of time.
    Political correctness and wealth envy are not going to get us anywhere but deeper in the hole. Something has got to change. Hang in there 'till then!

    Let's try something that is a proven winner first before we go out there and spend who knows how many millions or billions of dollars on laptop computers for government teachers. The voucher system. In places where it has been used, it is a proven winner. Change my ass ... this is more of the same sh*t that is continuing the dumbing down this country's children. A country that has the tools to, in so many ways, be the riches and smartest, but instead opts to give in to unions, political correctness, activists, ect. in the name of mediocrity. What a shame.

    Every listener of talk radio notwithstanding the host, Boortz, Hanity et al should start a "New American Revolution" through a boycott of the IRS come April. Everyone ask for an extention and then another and another and another or just don't file at all. It is legal to play catch-up. Everyone sees those commercials for those tax firms who claim their ability for the reduction of back taxes owed. I am willing to give up my refund one time to make the point. The hell with them, let them keep it.
    Send the Demo-craps and OBAMA a serious and strong message by crippling the Feds with delay after delay after delay or no filing at all. Can you imagine if every listener did so in the mass droves of the millions of us. This boycott would be two fold by also sending a message that the Fairness Doctrine WILL NOT be reinstated or "the beat goes on" and on and on. They can't prosecute the vast percentage of voters/listeners from one end of the Country to the other. OBAMA could be a one term President if the boycott was done every year for the next four years. Flood the Tax Courts with case after case.This could also work concerning the appointment of Judges to the Bench. We can control the purse strings and take power away from Congress.
    The American People only have to grow a pair and have the guts to "just say no" to the IRS, Congress and OBAMA . Boycott , boycott , boycott. What would they say when we took the lead of an idea of a boycott from the "race pimps" Jackson and Sharpton. They threaten boycotts all the time ,just ask Don Imus.
    If the OBAMA Administration wants us to endure their pain of tax, tax, tax and spend , spend, spend we the listeners can show them some real pain through a massive boycott. We can't be called racists when we just followed the "race pimps" method of making a financial point.

    Have the government build 800 billion dollars worth of nuclear power plants then sell them to private business, after they turn them on. That would create real jobs, help reach the goal of energy independance, and provides something real for the money.
  • Tax Holiday is FAIR
    Hey Duke...I'm one of the "less fortunate" who lost their job with no real savings. Yes, I'm collecting unemployment right now, behind on my house payments and credit card payments. My excellent credit score, 757, is going down the tubes.

    This Tax Holiday idea will stimulate the economy and the "less fortunate", like myself, will have plenty of OPPORTUNITY to better ourselves.
    Personally, I think it would be a waste of time right now to go find a job and pay taxes for government bailout plans that will fail. I'd rather participate in breaking the current system to the point where we are FORCED to pass the Fair Tax in order to survive economically.
    Every day I read about how bad things are I smile inside knowing that eventually we will reach a point that the Fair Tax is the inevitable solution.
    When you have Republicans realizing that political power at the cost of a broken economy is worthless, then the Fair Tax has a chance. I'll survive until then.

    The other reason that this would never fly is that it would not be "fair". The tax holiday would only benefit those that are actually paying the taxes. Forget about the long term benefits that EVERYONE would realize from the plan... where would the immediate benefit be to those who are "less fortunate"

    The only thing that will help us short and long term is FairTax along WITH Federal spending cutbacks. They have to stop playing big brother to every whiner here and over seas. The only thing I want the government to do is protect my borders, maintain the national infrastructure and STAY OUT of my business and pockets. That's it! States can decided what else they might want to do. Think how small that budget would be. And we wouldn't be passing on our legacy to our children in the form of monstrous debt.

  • The FED is printing money

    This is not fiscal responsibility. You can not have a tax holiday and run the bloated government we have.
    The bailout money is being printed by the FED and dumped into the system - this is a fact and is common knowledge. The plan that this Texas Congressman came up with would use that very bailout money to cover the cost of the tax free holiday.
    Follow me here. That bailout money is being created out of nothing by the FED, it is supposed to cover the tax free holiday, it has still been created for the same purpose - a bailout. Dumping that money into the economy leads to inflation and a weak dollar.
    This is why Republicans are the same as democrats, all hypocrites when the wave flows their way.
    Enact the FairTax, abolish the FED, and limit government, that is the only solution.

  • Jason, are you semi-concious out there? A five-month tax holiday doesn't make the government print more money. You think that there'll be some big hole out there that 800 billion is supposed to be occupying...that's the same thinking from liberals that if you have a tax cut then that deficit has to be made up somewhere. Thing is, there is NO deficit under those conditions. The Reagan tax cuts proved that more money comes in to the federal government when people have more of their own money to spend. Remember sales taxes? The more stuff bought, the more taxes paid...and it is actually higher than what is paid in income taxes per year. There is no need to print EXTRA money.

    So forget your worries. The public will still be making that same $800 billion whether the government adds to the overall federal deficit or not. No need to print extra money under these circumstances.
  • Tax holiday stimulus - unintended consequence.
    Unless the IRS tax tables were drastically modified for the 2009 filing, an unintended consequence of a 5-month tax holiday would be a huge tax owed to the IRS by April 15th 2010. There is always free cheese in a mousetrap.
  • End The Fed
    Why not abolish the Federal Reserve Act of 1913 and eliminate the need for income and payroll taxes all together, since the amount of debt we owe The Fed equals the amount of money the government takes in from those taxes? There is no need to replace it with any other tax system, including the FairTax Bill. Check out www.campaignforliberty.com for more information. I challenge people like Ken from yesterday's comments to do that, since he has shown just how ignorant he really is on what has been researched and proposed in Congress.

    Initiating the FairTax should be the plan.

    This tax holiday is just a gimmick that has the FED printing more money out of thin air and killing the dollar.
    Republicans were supposedly against using bailout money but now they are jumping on this plan because it is more to their liking but it does the same thing as the bailouts - it uses the FED to print more funny money.
    Libertarians and Republicans should be against having anymore increase in printing money.
    Not to mention, this would not cover contractors or those who own and run their own business.
    No more gimmicks, no more bailouts.
