INAUGURATION EMERGENCY

President Bush has declared Washington DC in a state of emergency. The emergency: the inauguration of Barack Obama. This promises to be the most expensive inauguration in history, costing over $150 million. Upwards of 2 million people are expected to attend .. are you ready to sue over those lines at the port-a-potties? Anyway, Bush did this so that unlimited funding could be released to help local authorities pay for the event. Mostly security costs.

Just for kicks .. take a look at this article from Bush's last inauguration. The liberals are throwing a fit over the cost and extra security. As you can imagine, that is nowhere near what we are gearing up to spend for Obama. For liberals it's the end of the world when big bucks are spent for the inauguration of a conservative Republican, but business as usual and entirely justified when the same bucks - and more - are spent on a coronation of the most liberal president in our nation's history. You can't accuse the left of hypocrisy though .. only conservatives can be hypocrites.

What others are saying

  • Bias
There is bias in every form of communication. Radio, tv news, newspapers, and even gossip are biased. It's your job to sift through the BS and figure out the truth and then make up your own mind.

I personally think that it will turn in to a national disaster. I also think it is a great setup for those stupid jokes. How many (insert here) does it take to inaugurate the Chosen?!
  • Inauguration Emergency.
    W is covering his butt.

Could you imagine the reprocussions if something unforseen were to happen and he had done nothing?

    Can't blame him a bit.

There are many folks both here and abroad that would LOVE to go down in infamy trying to take President O out.
  • Be fun to watch
Looking forward to seeing what 2 million fools in one place looks like.
  • So what?
So Democrats complain when a Republican inauguration costs a lot, and Republicans complain when a Democrat's inauguration costs a lot. Well isn't that special.
  • Salon pulled that article fast
    Did anyone get a screenshot?
  • A Royal Event
I don't know why everyone is so upset. Nothing is too good considering it's the coronation of King Barack, Queen Michelle, two little princesses, and a yet-to-be identified Royal Pooch.
  • I'm glad our forefathers can't see whats going on.... or maybe they can.
  • conservative?
A conservative Republican? where have you been the last eight years?
  • Come on...everyone knows Democrats are held to lower ethical standards in general, and the O-man will have a "get out of jail" card for everything. What a rock star...he is soooo cool.^^
  • Think of the children!
For $160,000,000 we could buy over 80 MILLION vaccines for children.

Geeze, that's the line they used for Bush's inauguration...and it was just $40 million.

    Parity? Not in our lifetimes...
  • Liberal Bias
Here we to with the hypocracy once again but, we all know there is no liberal bias in the media.........yeah right!!
  • INAUGURATION EMERGENCY
You have not seen any thing yet. The inauguration security is deeper than local Washington D.C. authorities. Active duty and National Guard members will be involved starting in D.C. and spreading out to at least a five hundred mile radius of D.C.

The reason I say five hundred, that is about how far our state is away from D.C. and we are getting involved.

I have not seen this kind of reaction since 9/11. People are jumping through hoops for this thing.

The way I feel right now, come January 20, 2009, I don't want to be near D.C.

I may take my family and find a spot to hide. I'll take my guns and provisions.

This thing is getting way out of hand!!!!
  • @Stan Gable
No Stan, the fighting is winding down. He is goign to Afganistan to spend the money now but that is pocket change in comparison to his proposed "stimulus" package and new spending he proposes within the first few months in office.
  • Wrong link
Links is to salon.com Sundance film festival???
  • Stan is confused
No, Stan. GWB has got things pretty well under control so the costs should start coming down. PEBO wants to spend it in Afghanistan. But you totally missed the [point. GWB spent 50 million and the lefties screamed that it was a waste. Now PEBO is spending 150 million or more and those same lefties are cheering. What a disgrace.
  • Conservative?
I approve of President Bush on many issues; but using the word 'conservative' to describe him makes me cringe. He failed to rein in fellow Republicans' spending when they were in power. He hasn't spoken up to Democrat spending for the last 2 years. We live in a kleptocracy. Presidents are supposed to protect the nation. What good is guarding me from a quick death by Islamic TNT, only to find my starved body in the snow soon after we all go broke?
  • Iraq?
I wonder if Obama will spend as much money on Iraq as Bush did?
