CORPORATE JETS

We know how much Barney Frank loves corporations and the evil rich. And if Barney Frank had it his way .. any company that owns, leases or holds an ownership stake in private planes would not receive any bailout money. Yep, Barney has introduced legislation with restrictions on how the rest of the TARP funds may be spent. And one of his restrictions is that no company will receive federal bailout money until they can show the Treasury secretary that they are in the process of getting rid of their corporate jets. Slobbering jerk. Playing to wealth envy, pure and simple.

What others are saying

  • Killing jobs
I wonder if BF thinks he's punishing more rich people - you know, all these corporate pilots who generally earn less than half of what he makes - or if he really thinks those corporate planes fly themselves? He parrots the refrain "we have to save/create jobs" while ensuring that thousands more jobs are lost. It's not just the pilots; it's the people who maintain the aircraft, build the aircraft, service the aircraft, crew and passengers, etc. What will happen to all the FBOs (Fixed Base Operators) and all their employees who provide facilities for the crew and passengers, especially those located at smaller airports not serviced by the airlines? I wish someone would nail him on this the next time he ventures onto the set of a talk show, but I'm not going to hold my breath.
  • Destroy the corporate jet industry???
I, like many thousands of others in this country, work in the aviation industry and build corporate jets.

Before you Barney Frank supporters dive too far into the mob mentality, think about all of the people who are employed in this industry and how this idiot is going to cause massive layoffs for us if he gets his way!

Do you want to add an Aviation Bailout to the growing list of corporate welfare handouts??!!!
  • Barney Frank and Corporate Jets
If Barney Frank succeeds in banning Corporations from owning, leasing, etc, jets and the Big 3 auto companies keep their jets, then the Big 3 will get no bail out money, the Companies will have to go into bankruptsy. Maybe them the Big 3 will be able to get rid of the unions. Way to go Frank!!!!
  • Shouldn't Neal be in favor of such restrictions?
Neal has made in apparent in the past that he isn't really in favor of the whole "bailout" system in the first place. That said, I am surprised he isn't in favor of any conceivable restrictions. The more restrictions on the way bailout funds are used, the less often they will be used.

  • Corporate Jets
I can guarantee you we'll find a way around this for our clients. www.jetviser.com
  • Corporate jets?
Let's see, people who make those jets have good jobs. Tell the folks at Gulfstream in Savannah or FalconJet in Little Rock or others in Wichita that they have lost their jobs because of King Barney
  • Bailout
So what are they going to do when the aircraft companies start failing and come crawling in for THEIR bailouts????
  • Bwaney Fwank
What a disgrace and embarrassment for a member of our Congress. Thank God that slobbering terd is a Demcorat.
  • Barney Frank
I don't have a problem with it, *as long as* the ban also extends to any organization that donated money to the campaign funds of any Congresscritters that are involved with public finance (say, isn't Barney Frank on such a committee?), and if any such organizations have already been provided such funds that those funds must be returned.
  • Jets, yachts and Luxury Tax
Now, was Barney Frank one of the brilliant left-wing Marxist economists that dreamed up the luxury tax a few years? Extra tax on luxury items almost killed the yacht, pleasure boat industry and other "luxury" industries. Put a lot of folks out of work. Let's kill the small to medium airplane industry. It worked before, it will work again. Oh, darn! There are no small aircraft builders in Boston....
  • What's more absurd
about Frank is this clown was a principal cause of the finacial meltdown because of his protecting the corrupt institutions of Fannie and Freddie - he used it as slush fund, vote buyer. Also, his boyfriend during the 90's was Herb Moses who just happened to be President of F&F when Frank was on the house banking committee. Yeah no conflict of interest there, but the repubs were too cowardly to bring this out lest they be called homophobes. Then in 2005, Frank said that F&F were just fine, even scolding a bank regulator during hearings on the hill. Frank continued to say F&F were just fine until mid-June 2008! NOW this MORON gets put in charge of fixing it??? Are you kidding me!!?? Is that Rod Serling I see??? I fear our republic is lost and it's just a matter of time before anarchy sets in and then totalitarianism takes over.
  • Unionized?
Are these plants unionized? If so Franks will be changing his tune again.
  • Barney The Jet Sheriff
Yes, Barney Frank is a socialist loser just like Reid, Pelosi, et al. But don't ever think that bunch is stupid. Barney and company know exactly what they're doing and they're experts at it. We have only ourselves to blame folks. We have exactly the kind of government we deserve since we keep electing these liberal, socialist clowns to Congress. You know what they say, "Fool me once shame on you. Fool me twice shame on me".
  • Corporate Jets
Yesterday, Cessna announced that they are laying off 2,000 employees. This is on top of the layoffs announced late last year.

In November 2008, Beachcraft laid off 500 employees, Last week, they announced that they will soon lay off significantly more. Learjet and Boeing also face layoffs. None of this even considers the resulting tens of thousands who will be laid off by suppliers to these aircraft manufacturers.

Barney Frank's actions assure even more layoffs in the future.
  • Is this clown for real?
The same body of government that allowed the US to amass $1.2 trillion in debt, is the last people anyone should listen too about financial matters.
  • Jets
Hey "Rationalization" have you checked out how much it costs to ride a train?
  • Legislation with unintended consequences
This is another example of knee jerk legislation. There are times when the use of company equipment (thats what an aircraft is) can be beneficial. My sisters company utilizes a jet to regularly service travel between several plants for efficiency. There are local airports close by to each plant so it is more economical for the company to run the service on their terms and schedule than it is to use the airlines. To arbitraily single out the corporate jet without thought to its value to production is simply...stupid.
  • frank is a loser.
There Barney goes again sticking his hand in places where it doesn't belong.

doesn't he understand the impact of this? Lets say suddenly all these corporations greedy for free money flood the market with used private jets.. this will drive the resale value to the floor.. which will strain the new jet production market and could cause THEM to need a bailout.. or suffer mass unemployment as plants shut down. Not only that, how many private pilots are going to be on the corner "will fly for food." with this kind of thing?

Frank's greed is only bested by pelosi reid and obama in their interventionist power hunger obsession to dictate and overthrow every aspect of the american way of life, all the while reaping the benefits of the suffering they cause us.
  • Private Plane V. Bass Rig Cost
Once again Neal says that the cost of a private aircraft and a bass rig are similar.

    Not quite, Hoss.

I found planes like Neal's Mooney Ovation III runs from $250 - $500 thousand, meanwhile I had to look at around 300 bass boats to come up with one that breaks $50k, and this "Bass Boat" is more like a mini-cabin cruiser for $62K.

Add a truck large enough to tow it and you'll be getting up close to $100K. Still a sizeable chunk of change away from $250K....

I suppose that you could find a plane for $60 - $100K, but it's going to be at the lower end and probably used, while the lower end bass rig can hit the water for under $20K, truck and all.

Me, I could care less about either toy. I have a Harley to waste my spare cash on. I agree on the "Wealth Envy Pandering" point being B.S., but Neal's example of his Mooney being the equivalent of a average bass rig has a touch of fertilizer in it as well.
  • please use common sense
Most companies can not function without there jets. Have you flown on the commercial airlines lately? It is nearly impossible to get from point A to B conduct your business and get back in a timely fashion without any hicups on a commercial jet. and what about all the pilots, mechanics, FBO workers, ect.... that would lose there jobs.
  • corp jet ban... does this apply to Nancy?
Given that Congress gets a bailout everyday (they don't create any wealth, they take it - ala bailout - from others that do) I think they should lead the way and stop using their corp jet (or is it jets?) and let Nancy and company travel with the rest of us back to the home district.

Oh, but then they might have to talk to 'the little people' and they can't have that, can they?
  • Lead by example
The Federal Government is in far worse financial shape (Trillions of dollars of unfunded liabilities) than any of the corporations receiving bailout funds. If slobbering Barney was truly a leader who believes that corporate jets are a problem, then how about leading by example and getting rid of the Congress's jets first.
  • Just the tip of the iceburg
The neo-Stalinists are hell bent on restoring this nation to "equality" like it's early inception where everyone was equally poor and miserable. One of two things will happen under the O-Team: businesses will be taxed to hell and back for carbon tax that own corporate aircraft (not just jets), or two, have to pay government ownership fees in the form of no corporate tax breaks period. Watch this pathetic liberal wingnut run this nation into the ground like a pilotless plane.
  • They DONT know how to run a business
In my book, any company seeking bailout money from the government has proven they DON'T know how to run a business, and shouldn't complain when the government tells them they need to do things differently.
  • Incompetent fool
Barney Frank is an incompetent fool. Here's a guy that's squarely responsible for this economic disaster together with his cronies / gang / socialist thugs and he's pandering to wealth envy. Well Barney, what about those that really need a corporate aircraft / helicopter, such as companies providing staffing for oil platforms? What an idiot...but what do you expect from a guy that didn't even supposedly know there was a male prostitution ring in his own house.
  • It's not really wealth envy though.
Sure, you can probably argue Frank's motives. But the intent behind the bill is similar to those feelings expressed with the Big 3 -- that if a private company is coming to beg for public funds, essentially asking that the government hold taxpayers at gunpoint and force them to prop this company up, that company had better be doing everything they can to stay afloat.

There are much, much more economical ways of getting around besides private executive jets. If the legislation is worded wrong it could be construed as applying to airlines, but I don't think that's the intent of it. The idea is that if a company is still paying the relatively exhorbitant costs of flying their executives around in private jets instead of, say, driving or taking the train, that company is not doing everything in its power to adjust its financial situation and therefore should not be granted the use of public funds.

I would have thought you'd be happy to see the government curbing some of its bailout spending.
  • Thanks Barney
This is yet another example at how inept and incompetent these Democrat "lawmakers" are. They think they can run business better than anyone else when in reality, the only notable achievement they have is getting elected. Barney helped kill the housing market, and I guess Business Jets are his next target. Thanks from the Air Capital.
