CLYBURN USES THE RACE CARD OVER EARMARKS

Let's set the cast of characters. Mark Sanford is the governor of South Carolina. He is opposed to any sort of bailout for the states. James Clyburn is a Representative from South Carolina. He is the House Democrat Whip, making him the highest ranking black lawmaker in the House. Oh ... and Clyburn is a First Class Race Pimp. So Sanford and Clyburn disagree about what constitutes an earmark. James Clyburn says that any federal money included in the stimulus should be sent back home to lawmakers' districts. Sanford says that this is the same thing as an earmark, but without calling it an earmark.

And then Clyburn came out with this line about Sanford's opposition, "[H]e happens to be a millionaire ... He may not need help for the plantation his family owns, but the people whose grandparents and great-grandparents worked those plantations need the help" in the form of federal money.

Mark Sanford's response? Yeah, that wasn't a rational explanation as to why he is in favor of earmarks. "You're playing the race card as your way of trying to defend stimulus packages and deficit spending out of Washington, D.C."

What others are saying

  • Clyburn Is Not Racist
CellaRaine, Actually I believe Clyburn is not racist. Obviously though, he believes black people are inferior to whites because he keeps requesting handouts for them. I suspect this is because he figures they are not capable of looking after themselves or don't understand birth control. We all really know he just wants all the money for them so he can keep getting re-elected because if he truly cared I think he would want the voucher program which would support school choice like someone pointed out in an earlier comment.
  • NO MORE BACKING DOWN TO THESE RACE PIMPS
As long as political leaders keep giving credence to the "poor mistreated blacks of this country syndrome", crap like this will never stop. Anytime over the next 600 years if a black district needs an earmark, all they have to do is bring up "the plantation" and presto! If Clyburn really wants to help the people in his district he will strive to make school vouchers the number one item on his to-do list or is he there to give his constituents more of the same which is keeping them down.
  • Clyburn- race warlord
My paralegals live in Clyburn's district. I used to give him the benefit of the doubt. Now we know he is a race warlord. Scumbag. Go Sanford!
  • Clyburn
I have the misfortune of living in Clyburn's district. I have never heard him say anything I agree with. Besides his racial remarks yesterday, he also said "I love earmarks" which I suppose is at least true. His office is on my speed dial, but when I call, I begin by saying that I realize calling there is a waste of my time since he only cares about what Pelosi tells him.
  • Clyburn
To Jackyl: It not surprising that you would say something like that and to be clear --- HE WAS ELECTED BY THE 6TH DISTRICT TO REPRESENT THE 6TH DISTRICT - that is what they DO in the House of Representative - The two SENATORS REPRESENT THE STATE IN D.C. Please tell me how is he a racist? When Neil and Rush say something they think is truthful is that racist or just a statement? --- To James: I am sorry you feel that way but how do you know that you were more qualified than a minority that was admitted over you? As a resident of the district and the state and a graduate of a University in South Carolina, I had to apply to a lot of schools and I had to work really hard to get there and stay there. From what I remember, I had to complete my assignment correctly and on time to keep up my gpa ... A professor never gave me any handouts with my grades. I happen to think that what is wrong with the politics today is what is the "extreme conservative ideology" that some republicans are holding on to and the hypocrisy that accompanies it. Guess what? America is not buying it anymore. I have worked since I was sixteen years old not stop, sometimes 2 or even 3 jobs to get pay for school and the things I have now. My parents and grandparents all have ALWAYS worked hard and taught us that WE HAVE TO WORK HARD FOR WHAT WE WANT as well and that what my entire family has done. Now I find myself living in a state with a governor only cares about himself, not the people of this state. This governor decided that he was going to play "chicken" with money that belongs to the people --- not the state. People who work pay unemployment insurance and when they lose their jobs they get a payment back for what they paid into the system. Are you all telling me with the unemployment rate as high as it is and jobs being lost after decades of work being put into companies that NOW was the time to GRANDSTAND? Seriously, it is a shame and it is sad, to stand on the backs of the people of this state to position yourself as a leader in a party that obviously doesn't get it and unfortunately you don't either. So I guess that only thing you have left is to pull this race thing only in reverse. I guess whatever gets you through the night.
  • Racism
I live in Columbia, S.C. and I completely agree with Gov. Sanford. I'm far from rich and am currently a student and have lots of student loan debt, but I still believe that Clyburn and his supporters represent what is wrong with politics today. He was elected to represent the interests of S.C. and his district- not to obtain as many handouts as possible. And by the way, having seen the effects of affirmative action first hand, being denied admission to school and having less qualified minorities admitted instead makes the whole race card bit very annoying.
  • Clyburn - CellaRaine
I do live in South Carolina and have my entire life. While I don't always agree with Governor Sanford, I can tell you that I have never agreed with Jim Clyburn. He is nothing but a racist and his election is the result of gerrymandering. He would never have been elected if his district was not drawn for the sole purpose of electing a black official.
  • Clyburn
This is really sad people. I am willing to bet that none of you even live in S.C. or knew anything about these people until Mr. Boortz posted this story. Mark Sanford has positioning him self for the national scene in the Republican party for over a year now. This is the reason for all of his "antics" The republicans are becoming more regional and thanks to the outgoing president have lost touch with most americans. If Clyburn wants to do some for the people of his district, which is what WE elected him for, then so be it. I guess this is the way you guys are going to start to operate now. Any disagreement with this "extreme conservative ideology is going to be labeled as "race baiting" ! How about I quote the esteemed Mr Boortz and say " Get over it"
  • Racism
Right on Julio! It's what people do when they have nothing else to justify their "outrage". Media whores.
  • Where is the criticism of black leaders?
It is disgusting to read these comments of Rep Clyburn. Where is the critcism of such derogatory comments? Where is Cynthia Tucker and where is Jay Bookman? If a white leader had made even a whiff of such a low-class comment, the media and so-called activitits would have collectively ended that politician's career (Trent Lott anyone?!). America needs to mature and become intolerant of stupidity of all people, irrespective of their skin color.
  • The RACE WAR is Coming to AMERICA !!!!
Its coming folks, I can't say when, but I can say; THE RACE WAR IN AMERICA IS ON IT'S.
As long as the "RACE PIMPS" in this country keep pushing the race card people will be growing more in-tolerant of those pushing the race card.
  • Hey, Frank....
    "EVERYTHING..........
....is going to be racial now that obama has made it in the seat of the White House...."

...You didn't spell Obama with a capital "O"...you're racist.
  • Racism
Calling someone a racist or tossing the race card is now officially the last refuge of a scoundrel.
  • Rep. Clyburn
I wish someone would ask Rep. Clyburn (and for that matter all members of the "Hyphenated-American" Congressional Caucus) to cite the exact percentage of his voting constituency who actual pay income taxes (i.e., top 50% of all income earners) vice collecting some kind of public assistance. Enquiring minds want to know.
  • race warlord
On July 31, 2007, Clyburn said in a broadcast interview that it would be a "real big problem" for the Democratic party if General Petraeus issued a positive report in September. He is a race warload to me who is only interested in Black America.
  • EVERYTHING..........
....is going to be racial now that obama has made it in the seat of the White House....

EVERYTHING will revolve around race...as it has been for the past 45 years...

and I hope...no, WISH..that the idiot Whites that thought for one second that putting obama in the White House would be a 'post-racial' event.....will have to endure the idiocies of their decisions.....
