I don't understand why melting ice caps would cause sea levels to rise. Doesn't everybody realize that frozen water takes up more space than liquid? If all the ice caps melted into liquid, the total volume of water would be less, not more! So...use your head...sea levels should drop, not rise.

Both Ben and Dave are correct (generally speaking). Ben is talking about a 1% change in current CO2 concentration and Dave is talking about a 1% change in atmosphere. CO2 is 0.0385% of our atmosphere and in 4-5 years may be 0.039% and 8-10,000 years to be 1% of our atmosphere. Both are very curd calculations but indicate the magnitude of effect. The earth has been at higher CO2 % in the past. Yes, there is global warming on Mars if you need a reference check the NASA website or Neal’s archives. Anyone who even been in a communist country knows of there disregard of the environment but that does not stop them (China and Russia) from insisting we heavily invest in “correcting” AGW and leave them to continue to "develop."

Dave, you need to rethink your math. We are currently at 385 ppmv CO2 concentration (http://www.esrl.noaa.gov/gmd/ccgg/trends/). The total estimated CO2 emission due to fossil fuels is 8000 million metric tons per year. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CO2_emission). The total mass of the atmosphere is about 5x10^18 kg (http://hypertextbook.com/facts/1999/LouiseLiu.shtml). Assuming mass concentration is the same as volume concentration (correct to within a order of magnitude), that's a change of 1.6 ppmv (0.4%) per year. When you translate mass concentration to volume concentration, it's actually only ~1 ppmv (0.26%) increase per year. That puts the time for 1% increase with no reabsorption at around 4 years. You are off by a factor of 2500 in your "very simple calculation". Perhaps you should rethink whether you should be making statements about what is and is not ridiculous and absurd.

There are plenty of reasons to dispute whether climate change is caused by humans and whether we should be doing anything about it without resorting to unsubstantiated and erroneous claims. Let's not give the other side any more ammunition.

If these models are so great, why can't the pinheads produce models that will tell which cell will drop a tornado or where a hurricane will hit and what strength. Models are based on the programmer's bias, beliefs, suppositions, etc.

Even if there is no such thing as Global Warming pollution controls are a good thing. If you don't believe me go visit China. I was in Xian in 1998 and you couldn't see through the smog you would wake up in the morning and cough up black mucus. Global Warming my just be an excuse but all the things we do to prevent it are good for the air we have to breath.

The biggest enemy of environmentalism is actually Communism. China is an environmental catastrophe. Contrary to what Boortz says, they're not against Capitalism. I use to be an environmentalist, but I disagreed with their objective: protect the environment to protect human life. The way I see, the environment is self correcting - it'll just kill off the bald monkeys (humans) until things are right again.

This goes to one of your favorite themes - the abysmal state of education. We keep asking how so many can be blind to the failures of socialism, or the farce of global warming, or just the blatant self-serving hypocrisy of our political class, but it just comes down to the fact that we may have the most ignorant populace this country has ever had. The founders knew this could happen and warned us, but this has been intentionally engineered over time by those who would control and order society to their preference.
