That would be Saxby Chambliss.  The voters in Georgia gave him a ten point margin and sent him back to sit on the sane side of the Senatorial aisle.  There goes the Troika's 60-seat majority, no matter what the dwarf pulls off in Minnesota.  Good job, voters.  Looks like Obama made the right call in not coming down here to campaign for the Democrat.

What others are saying

  • I come here for humor, entertainment, not serious debate!
I come here to prove to myself that the fringe whom have been blamed for the republican defeat in 2008, whom love Ingraham, Boortz, Oreilly, Hannity, Savage of 104.1 FM, infamous fame, are the gift that will keep on giving in future elections, Laura Ingraham today called this Chambliss win a "bell weather sign" of her parties going to rebound, I loved this, the elite in her party have thrown her & fellows at 104.1 FM and fans under the GOP bus, you guys are like a drunk coming to a party you are no longer welcome at, but this is why I find this so amusing! I post else where on liberal sites, and have urged many of my liberal friends to come here and enjoy the entertaiment, amusement of how and why the right wing is in disarray, civil war amongst the elite, rich, powerful who really run the republican party and the illiterate, ignorant, racists, bigots whom they only tolerated as long as you helped them win seats, your like a useless gelded horse, good for a ride, but cannot produce any offspring!
  • Thanks, y'all
Thanks to our neighbors in Georgia for having the sense to re-elect Chambliss. Sarah Palin's campaigning definitely worked. Maybe that's why the MSM isn't reporting this....ya think?
  • Liberal007's take on Cleland
    Hey Liberal007,
You call a fool like Max Cleland a war hero? You obviously haven't done your homework on the guy. He lost his legs and an arm by goofing off with a grenade in camp. They were tossing it back and forth as a game and he paid the price. Stop using your typical socialist tactics and selling people half truths.
  • Liberal007
Well Liberal007, that's because, quite frankly, you're an uneducated blowhard with nothing intelligent to say on here. I mean, is there really anything that I could say beyond that? How could anyone possibly argue with someone as dense and out of touch with reality as you are. Do us all a favor, stick your head in a toilet and flush.
  • 8:30 AM - 1:00 PM
"its really funny though and curious that all comments cease being posted, during his show times, guess it is a mere coincidence!

    By Liberal007 @ 12/03/08 11:27:39 AM"

Not only did you comment during Boortz airtime, you did so in responding to another comment that was made during Boortz airtime. In fact, all but 5 (6 including mine) of the 32 comments on this page were made between 8:30 AM - 1:00 PM, which is when Boortz is on the air. In missing this simple fact you, while exemplifying your (as well as many other liberals') inability to research facts, discredited any past, present, or future posts you may come up with.
  • I don't know that Palin had as much to do with the 'voter turnout' as much as the minorities who didn't want to vote for an 'old white man' did.
  • Once again...
Liberal007, constitution, and delusions of granduer have posted entire rants with run-on sentences. Can you (yes, we know you are the same person) please incorporate some grammer into your thoughts? It hurts our eyes to read your posts.
  • 3rd party effect downplayed?
I just found that there was a third party candidate in MN. I knew about GA only because I voted Libertarian. Seems like the effect of 3rd party candidates in close races should garner more attention.
To ignore this effect only perpetuates the two-party system as our only option.
  • Isn't it funny
Now this is funny. Have you noticed that both “delusions of grandeur” & “constitution” have shown up to tell us that we are just LICKING OUR WOUNDS & we are “just to blind or drunk on their delusions” to see the writing on the wall. That when they speak, they are speaking truth and they are the only ones doing so. How some many things are meaningless. They can’t believe that we don’t hate Obama, we just see him and the congress for what they are. NO! That’s just hat speech. That low unemployment and a thriving stock market are failed economics. We’re fooling ourselves. The bailout is all Bush’s fault, and the Dems are going to show us how to fix things. Even given the fact that they are bailing out (under full Democratic control) they very people that were that were to be cause of the economic problems in this country. Yes, we are whining when we come here and point these things out. How dare we do such a thing, its too much like what they did 8 years ago when Bush took office.

The stock market was suppose to rise when the election was over, it did not. Now they say we misunderstood them and that it will rise when Obama takes office. I wonder what the excuse will be when that doesn’t happen. Have you notice that everytime Obama opens his mouth concerning the economy, the market drops more times then not.

To “delusions of grandeur” & “constitution” I say this, drunk on delusions of grandeur? No, more like track record and history. I feel like Jimmy Carter is coming back. I can’t wait to see what you two have to say these wonderful Democratic Congress and President Obama turn on you and tell you it is what’s fair and right
  • bobmgn@verizon.net
This is how elections turnout when ACORN, community organizers, and voter fraud ain't involved. The people that take their voting seriously voted. Not a bunch of ignorant rabble.
  • Sarah Palin effect!
I love this one, Sarah Palin effect is why Chambliss won, guess any excuse is better than the real one, democratic candidate was simply not a good one, had he/she been it might have turned out differently, since media reports state over 1 million less black voters did not turn out for vote, this little fact is never mentioned in the glee and gloating on this worthless senate seat which will not change the balance of power in senate one bit! I guess ignorance is bliss as they say, keep on thinking Sarah Palin is the right wings "great white hope", she dragged McCain into the gutter, with her blatant racism, bigotry, alienating those women voters she was supposed to bring into the fold of republican party, problem is republicans have the ugly red headed step child in the house, those dixiecrats whom abandoned the democratic party in 1960's protesting the civil rights, segregation issues of that bygone era, they cannot be appeased, its either their way or the highway, and they are the gift which keeps on giving to the democrats, thats why republicans lost hispanic votes, thats why women in general did not find Sarah Palin appealing she was merely some pretty face to ad to the ticket, she proved herself inept, incompetent in interviews, debate, and her $150,000 shopping spree destroyed her home grown girl image! Not to mention her petty abuse of power in trooper gate scandal!
  • The Palin Principle
    1,500 PEOPLE! WOW!
With the economy in the tubes and workers being laid off in droves you would figure Sarah would have drawn at least 1,575.
Oh God Yes Please. Keep Sarah in the loop. Tina Fey can use the money.
  • RINO Republicans
I wouldn't be a bit surprised if Al Franken & his goons steal the senate seat in Minn., and one or all of the 3 Northeastern RINOs change parties. They are Susan Collins (R-Maine), Olympia Snowe (R-Maine) and Arlen Specter (R-Pa.)
  • Hope it helps.
In all my adult life I've never been more proud of my state.
  • Palin Affect HUGE
Polls had Chambliss up 3-5. Some said 7. GOV Palin comes in and a too close to call or safe turns into a rout. This gives Palin Political Clout (notice MSM does not talk this). Obama didn't come down for at least the weekend because if Martin loses his clout looks bad. My wife went to the Palin rally. She would care less about Chambliss otherwise. GOV Palin was even the last speaker. How many times do you save a keynote for somebody not actually running. One report of a rally Monday morning (most Republicans at work) in Savannah had 1500-2000 people. Romney was there earlier and had about a 100. Mitt this is simple if she decides to run in 2012 start prepping yourself for SEC of Treasury.
  • America owes Georgia Voters a Debt of Gratitude
Thanks to all you GA peaches for pulling through for the rest of us.
  • I got a laugh at this one, often people copy comments!
    Duel Identity
Beginning to think Liberal0007 and Delusions of Grandeur are the same person. Or they have the same writer.

Putting Saxby in will enable us to lessen the damage. Good job.
    By Joyce M/Blythe, GA @ 12/03/08 10:25:11 AM

hate to disappoint you Joyce, but there are more than one liberal in this old world, besides me! I also note every time Boortz goes on air, his site stops posting comments, responding to comments, one might think you were Boortz in disguise! Far be it from me to assume Boortz does not have plenty of peanut gallery cheerleaders to work for his cause, its really funny though and curious that all comments cease being posted, during his show times, guess it is a mere coincidence!
  • Fillibuster just a way for the right to bluster!
I love the delusions of the right wing, in 2004 election glee they gloated their win proved their party would usher in 40 years of republican dominance in american politics, avoiding the fact they stole the election in 2000 with fraud, disenfranchsing 50,000 voters, ignoring the fact the Florida governor whom helped perpetrate this crime, was younger brother Jeb Bush to the elder benefactor of the fraud, Georgie, yes a fillibuster does not block anything, it merely gives the minority party "republicans" ability to debate and delay, a fillibuster cannot in of itself block anything, guess the brilliant minds here cannot fathom how the senate works, fillibusters are a aggravation at worst, since at some point they end, they cannot last eternally, forever, they merely allow for delays in submission of the votes, but guess that little parlimentary fact is beyond the Boortz peanut gallery to understand! Did the fillibuster stop anything the republican majority wished to pass? No! It merely offered them the aggravation of delay, which prompted the impatient republicans to suggest changing the senate "fillibuster rules" which apply to anything not just voting on justice confirmations, guess that little fact is to hard to fathom, but then its ok, live in your delusions, that republicans somehow still have any real power, fact is you lost senate/congress in 2006, only saving grace you had then was a traitor to the democratic party Lieberman whom could not be depended on by democrats, so real senate majority did not exist, but was alluded to when ever the republicans wished to blame democrats, but real majority exists today, Lieberman is like a neutered puppy, not needed, and no republican presidential veto exists anymore, your great republican majority, power is gone, get used to it for at a minimum 4 years!
  • PRAISE SARAH!
"Putting Saxby in will enable us to lessen the damage."

And would you be so kind as to explain how?
And yes please give all credit to Sarah Palin. Please, please, please let Sarah be the face of the Republican Party going forward. 16 years as a minority party may well be just what the doctor ordered. Sure she excites the base but so does snake handling.
  • Majority Sminority
Just to be a conspiracy nut - maybe the Dems don't want a majority - this will allow them to vilify Republicans on issues they want to pass and also know they can bring up bills they do not wish to pass and know won't make it but they look good anyway
  • Totally fixed!
You are all idiots for believing election results from a state under military rule from Russia. Good day America.
  • Duel Identity
Beginning to think Liberal0007 and Delusions of Grandeur are the same person. Or they have the same writer.

Putting Saxby in will enable us to lessen the damage. Good job.
  • Coralie is right
Tapping a GOP senator for a position in Obama's cabinet or an embassy is a way to get another seat. Politics ain't beanbag.

And I'm also expecting Susan Collins and Olympia Snowe to be courted with plum committee assignments if one or both switch parties.
  • yeah, so what
This isn't going to make any difference. The Republicans are going to go along with whatever bailout the Democrats offer. Oh, the might try to stall it until they can get some sort of pork for their own constituents, the idea that the Republicans are going stand up for the concept of smaller government is a pipedream.
  • The right call
"Looks like Obama made the right call in not coming down here to campaign for the Democrat."

You will see Obama make lots and lots of right calls. After 8 years of Bush it will be mighty sweet to see some right calls being made. Obama needs Saxby Chambliss like a fish needs a bicycle.

"Oh don't let them take our guns Saxby!"

God what a bunch of rubes. But at least Sarah got to continue her tour of the lower 48. You betcha ;-)
  • The Palin effect
No mention of the Palin effect on this race? Over the weekend, Chambliss is up by 4 points in most polls. Neal predicts a 7 point victory.

Sarah flies in on Monday and makes four appearances for Saxby. He wins by 15 points. Please do not say that Palin does not motivate the Republican base because there's the evidence to prove she can get the vote out. Chambliss didn't get this late surge on his own.
  • Georgia's vote
Thank the Georgia voters for not rushing Lemming-like to install another democrat in the senate. Washington thought Georgians were hicks. They proved to be deserning voters - we need more across the country.
  • Lesser Evil I Guess
So a socialist Republican won over a socialist Democrat. Something like arsenic vs. cyanide. Pick your poison.
  • So what?
Eh, constitution, the "nuclear option" on changing filibuster rules you mention was ONLY associated with "advise and consent" votes for Supreme Court justice nominees. This is a SENATE RULE and not a Constitutional power.

A real filibuster is about blocking LEGISLATION, a far more important parliamentary tool than the grand-standing BS associated with votes on justices.

If the Senate has a filibuster proof majority, the majority leader can get all sorts of odious bills passed and dump them on the House. Since the House is democrat controlled AND the Whitehouse is soon to be occupied by a Democrat, the filibuster is the ONLY tool available to the minority party to block majority proposed legislation.

You really need to pick a different handle. Constitution really isn't appropriate, considering your post content...
  • democrats majority, congress, senate, white house!
I love those whom come here to lick their wounds, crying in their proverbial beer like some drunk in a bar, about all the ills of their pathetic lives, thats what one sees with all this glee for this worthless win, 10% or 16% is meaningless since he was favored to win from start, the fact they had the runoff at all was amazing, since it usually never occured before in a republican dominated state, so the fact they had to fight for this seat at all does not bode well for future elections in Georgia, but key is watch the congress, senate, votes, democrats have the majority, republicans can fillibuster till they turn blue in the face, they have no presidential veto in the hip pocket as they have for last 8 years! Change is coming, and the writing is on the wall, they are just to blind or drunk on their delusions of granduer to see it!
  • Not Secure Yet
No one seems to mention the fact that Obama's cabinet isn't complete yet. All he has to do is make McCain or Jon Kyl (both Republicans) an irresistible offer, and have Governor Napolitano appoint a Democrat as her last act in office, before taking her place in the cabinet.

Or Wayne Allen from Colorado, or CHuck Grasley in Iowa . . . you get the point. Any Republican Senator in a state with a Democratic Governor could be tapped to serve as "special envoy to the backside of no where" and he/she gets replaced with a Democrat by a Democrat Governor.
  • 10 points?
More like sixteen points. Read the news, please.
  • saxby
im very happy to have this good man reelected.
  • saxby
im very happy this mans not perfect, what man is? but he sure is whom i want in office
  • Chambliss wins so what!
I find this whole issue of fillibuster moot, prior to 2006 when republicans had majority in senate, democrats had the fillibuster right, which is merely a issue allowing them to debate, it cannot over ride a majority vote of 51, and unless one has the presidential veto which they had it is meaningless, so fillibuster was a moot issue, but when republicans had power they threatened to use the nuclear option, changing the senate rules on fillibuster to 51 to end a fillibuster instead of the 60, which chaning any senate rule needs only 51, with 58 democrats could if they really cared about the fillibuster issue change the rules which would kind've be funny in a way in that it brings to mind "beware what you wish for", since it was the republicans whom threatened the use of this nuclear option as they called it, but with democatic president a veto on a democrat legislative issue is unlikely, so let the blow hards in right have their moment to rant and rave like Boortz does 24/7, changes nothing, has no effect on anything, but lets them vent their ideas, views, which I believe for last 8 years have proven them unfit to administer even a dog catchers position in government!
  • sanity is finally sinking in
perhaps those that are experiencing 'buyers remorse' found a way to atone.
  • Thank you Georgia voters
    :)
  • This is something to celebrate?
If you voted for Chambliss yesterday and you consider yourself conservative....please describe what it was like to vote for some who calls themself a Republican then proceeds to support the fundamentals of socialism? What did that feel like to vote in favor of that? Why on earth would someone complain about wealth redistribution and then vote for Chambliss, a supporter of the bailout? Do you see the oxymoron in that? I think its official....holding your nose is the new losing your spine.
  • Amazing!
I love this, glee being felt, that deep southern state, went republican! No surprise to many of us, I think what was amazing, is that it proved one thing, the right wing has no shame, honor, dignity, it would elect a chicken hawk, avoider of duty in vietnam over a decorated, wounded, crippled real war hero in the first place, that was the election which always amazed me, this one is merely proof the democrats did not put forth a candidate to generate the voter turn out it got with Obama, before the glee gets to your head, next election cycle, a viable candidate might appear, one can always hope! I said previously it does not matter whether Chambliss won or lost, majority existed in congress/senate before this race ever started! And white house republican veto ends Jan. 2009! So let the Boortz peanut gallery live in delusions of granduer, that Chambliss will give them some kind of power, control in senate, the ironic thing is he is merely one vote, and out of 100...count them up how many are democrat and how many are republican! This gives no majority, and as the republicans proved when they had majority fillibuster is a meaningless thing, in fact "remember their alleged idea of the nuclear effect" changing the fillibuster rules" it was a threat that got some of its own members to defeat, beware what you wish for is what comes to mind!
