THIS COULD PUSH THE DEMOCRATS OVER THE EDGE

Check this out. Click here and take a look at this one ballot in Minnesota. Minnesota, in case you don't know, is where the Democrats are busy stealing a Senate seat. Just 150 or so votes separate the incumbent Republican Norm Coleman and ultra-leftist Democrat Al Franken. Al Franken is actually taking this one particular ballot to the courts saying that the voter was obviously voting against Norm Coleman. Again ...just look at the ballot to get a clear idea what is going on here.

Are we going to allow the Democrats to use tactics like this to get their filibuster-proof majority in the Senate? Well, that depends on the voters in Georgia. On December 2nd Georgia voters can prevent that 60-vote majority, no matter what Al Franken manages to pull off in Minnesota. The Minnesota Senate race will be determined by politicians ... the Georgia Senate runoff between Republican incumbent Saxby Chambliss and Democrat Jim Martin will be decided by the voters ... and it's all going to rest on just who heads to the polls.

There is going to be much gnashing of teeth of the last roadblock - the possibility of a Republican filibuster - is removed from the path of Obama, Pelosi and Reid. There is absolutely nothing in Martin's past that indicates he would be anything other than Obama's dog washer and Reid's sock puppet in Washington.

Weeks ago I was saying that the political focus was going to be on Georgia after the general election. Finally I get something right. We need something to slow down the big-government goals of the Democrats. Georgia voters are that something.

What others are saying

  • Saxby
Even though Saxby supports the Fair Tax, he really hasn't given us much other conservative things to vote for. He old guard neo-con really. Up to now I haven't heard him mention sticking to traditional conservative ideals like not policing the world, getting rid of the Patriot Act and FISA and doing away witht he board of education. Sorry but Saxby is simply a big government leftist neo-con who has signed the bailout bill so he's a socialism sympathizer to boot. And somehow we are supposed to be afraid of Jim Martin? Please.... let the Dems have their fun and we'll get Gary Johnson and tradtional conservative Ron Paul values into the white house next time.
  • Ga. Senate Runoff
    Thank you, Allen Buckley.
  • Franken
He's a "comedian" for goodness sake, shouldn't that say it all?? I can't believe he's gotten as far as he has. How much money are the taxpayers paying for this farce?
  • Good god...
He's not good enough, smart enough, nice enough, funny enough, and gosh darn it.... I don't like him.
  • Democrat party should go away.
  • The Dems will get 60...
...no matter if Saxby wins or not. If they're at 59, all they have to do is convince Susan Collins or Olympia Snowe to flip (like Jeffords did a while back). One of them will take the bait. Filibuster-proof majority, here we go!

It's going to be a long two years until 2010.
  • Wait, what?
Since when was Al Franken a Farmer? Just a thought...
  • What the heck?
What the heck is he trying to do with the title of his political party? Could the class warfare in this be any more apparent?
  • Great idea you Boortz, Ingram, Orielly, Limbaugh fans form your own party!
I love that idea, all you extreme right nut jobs need to form your own party, hate to bust your bubble but even with you all, your present party can barely scrap together 30% of electorate, so if you nut jobs abandon your party, hate to tell you, it will be a great day for us democrats! Your numbers are few, that is your delusion of grandeur that you ever had a majority, you won elections via fraud, illegal disenfranchisement of 50,000 florida voters, in 2000, some more dirty tricks in 2004 in Ohio, Newhampshire, but these things are not working for you so well anymore...., karma a funny thing it has come home to you in spades! Get the pun in that one! Mighty Whitey fans!
  • I agree with Stevey
That sure does look like one for Franken.
  • it's funny that anyone would wonder how can Al Franken be a serious candidate, look at our president - elect!!! this year, anyone out there who's running with democrats, anyone at all, can run for office and win! that's how badly the republicans messed up in the past few years. so let it go, we have to go through the process, we have to let the socialist ruin this country even more than the republicans, and start from scratch. you have to hit the bottom before you can truly recover.
and Saxby's gonna take this election in GA, we had a huge showing from the african-american community because of obama, but those voters WILL NOT be coming out to vote for some white dude no one even knows. not that it matters, we do have some conservative democrats and liberal republicans in the senate, so it's not as if that magical 60 is that much different than 57,58, or 59. it is what it is.
  • Saxby Supporters...
Can any of Saxby's supporters offer a single reason to vote FOR SAXBY--i.e., one that doesn't involve voting "against the Democrats"?

If so, please speak up. Nobody else has so far.
  • Since when do Republicans filibuster?
Someone touched on this in their comments. Even when the Republicans could filibuster, they chose not to. Republicans are ever scared of the national media and the portrayal of them being the bad guys. Guess what? Stand up for what you believe in anyway, regardless of how you are portrayed. Trying to keep the peace is part of the reason we are in this mess, instead of attacking the representatives that are leading us down the path to ruin.
  • Stealng?
Why is it stealing a senate seat? Isnt it winning a senate seat like the dems deserved to?
  • Half of Americans???
anonymous writes: "If this is not proof in the proverbial pudding how disgusted majority of americans are with the right wing fringe nut wing jobs"

Please, there is so much you say that has to be corrected I don't know where to start. As for this phrase, its not the majority of americans (which you want to believe)it was simply the majority of those who voted.
  • A new Contract With America?
I hope the Libertarians and the Republicans are working on a new and improved "Contract with America". We are going to need it! Give the Dems 2 years and then watch out!!!

OBTW, does anybody else out there want a strong, viable third party in this country???????
  • Minnie Senate Race
It sure looks like a vote for Franken, can't be anything but that, why people can't see that I don't understand.

    Signed
    Stevie Wonder
  • Grand Larceny...Ballot
Al Franken must have been that kid everybody picked on in grade school. Now he's trying to make us all pay! Is it wrong to hope an icecicle falls from a 10 story building and 'validates his parking ticket'? What a moron. And the people who voted for him...who registered them to vote? An ACORN volunteer who worked part time at the morgue?
  • Funny even a comedian beats republicans!
If this is not proof in the proverbial pudding how disgusted majority of americans are with the right wing fringe nut wing jobs, even now the elite in republican party are blaming Laura Ingram, Bill Oreilly, Rush Limbaugh, Ann Coulter, Michelle Malkin, Neil Boortz & company are to blame for the republican debacle, funny, funny, am laughing till my side hurts, ignorance is bliss as they say, you fans of the above could not and will not see the writing on the wall!
  • miscount
Everyone counting Democrat Senators keep forgetting the "Maverick." When it really counts McCain will side with Dems on votes about climate change and other big issues.
  • Saxby!
I live in Georgia and my husband and I will be voting Republican on Dec. 2. Hopefully enough of us will get out there and vote to get Saxby re-elected.
  • Read the rules
    See http://www.sos.state.mn.us/home/index.asp?page=1405
    and http://www.sos.state.mn.us/docs/recount_guide_2008.pdf

If you read the MN Secretary of State site which has all the guidelines for assessing ballots during the recount, one of the cases of a ballot that should be rejected is one where "If the voter used an identifying mark or mark with the intent to identify the ballot, the entire ballot is
defective." The example given is where someone has put initials next to the bubble. I suspect this is the argument Frankin's side would use to have this ballot disqualified, as someone might recognize their "squiggle". I can't imagine they'd claim it was a vote for Franken, but rather an invalid ballot.

Also, Frankin hasn't asked this ballot to be decided by the courts (at least not yet.) The challange simply means the state canvassing group will be rendering a final recount decision on this ballot. After they finalize the results, then court challenges can begin.

Also, the above mentioned rules clearly state that filling in the oval is not a requirement for your vote to count. Exmaples given include using a checkmark, an X, or even just circling the candidate's name and leaving all ovals blank. All those count under the rules set up by MN law-- which is what must be used.
  • Minnesota race
IF and when "Stuart Smalley" aka Al Franken gets in plan on the fairness(not) doctrine to be put into law. Just remember the last job he had...Air (not) America
  • Al Franken?
I'm just dumbfounded that Franken could be taken seriously. What has happened to this world that Al Franken could be a legitimate candidate? I've been watching that race with great interest not really thinking that he even had a shot. Wow.
  • Throw it out!
I am an Obama supporter. I say throw that vote out, don't let it count for either. It is very easy to fill in a bubble. If they can't figure it out, oh well. That may sound harsh, well, it kinda is. Don't let it count for the dems or the repubicans. That's my opinion!
  • 60 Votes
I say screw it: Vote Martin and let Obama screw up the country so badly that folks are begging for conservatism and liberty.
  • 3 votes for Frankin
Brillant comment by Rich in Decatur. I think he's on to something.
  • Obvious
The intent of the voter is not known. People vote in bizare paterns. The mark is clearly on Coleman. The ballot was cast therefore its a vote for Coleman. PEROID!

Now as for the filibuster proof senate they already have it with all the RINOs on the Republican side. There will be no filibusters to stop anything. Look the Repbulican could not filibuster when they had more votes. How they gonna do it with less?

The only thing I cling to at this point is, the Democrats are scared to pass anything with the Republican voting with them. Look the $700 billon bailout was a prime example. The Dems had the votes but would not vote on it until the Rep came along. Please don't take that from me. It all I have. :)
  • Absentee Ballot
Didn't the state of Virginia decide not to count absentee ballots from our troops overseas because they didn't get there in time for the presidential election? Wasn't that because Virginia didn't send those ballots out to the troops in time?

This crap in Minnesota is just another slap in the face of our soldiers. How dare they want to count votes that were in the backseat of somebody's car and not allow our troops votes to count in the presidential election!!
  • A clear vote for Al Frankin
The creative mark is unmistakably that of a Democrat. The multiple strokes obviously indicates a desire to vote multiple times (a right guaranteed by our Constitution). This ballot is clearly three votes for Al Frankin and could possibly be contested as four.
  • Filibuster-proof Senate?
It seems to me that Democrats want a 60 seat majority so that they don't have to CHANGE Senate rules to allow FEWER than 60 votes to end filibuster. Please recognize the difference between "filibuster proof" ... a function of Senate rules, and "veto proof" a function of Constitutional constraint.
