I'M SORRY, WHOSE MONEY?

At least Barney Frank is being honest about this bailout. He has admitted, it is not about the auto industry, it is about the unions. And he doesn't think that $25 billion is enough to save them. In fact, he doesn't think that number is "fair" because companies like AIG have been given more of your tax dollars in the form of a bailout. And this is "biased" towards white collar workers.

Here's Barney Frank on NPR:

"Well, AIG, which I don't think anyone would think was as important to the American economy as the auto industry ... got $40 billion just now to make it up over $100 billion. To some extent, let's not have a white-collar/blue-collar bias in our public policy. You know, those who say, hey, go bankrupt so you can cut back on what the unions have won -- the unions have already made some concessions. But, you know, we've had enough anti-union activity, and enough increase in income inequality in this country. I don't want to set a precedent that bankruptcy now is a way in which you undo what gains unions have been able to hold on to."

Wow, he really hits on all the high points here. Wealth envy. Income inequality. Anti-union activity.

Then we have Senator Carl Levin. He says that it would be "unthinkable" for Congress to let a "dispute over the source of the funds" be the reason not to bailout the auto industry. A dispute over the source of funds? Those funds don't just magically appear, Mr. Senator. Those funds are the tax dollars of your constituents. That's the issue here .. not just an ancillary dispute.

And finally, we have GOP Rep. from Michigan Joe Knollenberg. He says that the money funding the auto bailout "isn't your money." Do you hear that? It's not your money. Someone needs to remind this guy, who thankfully lost his bid for reelection, that the government is not independently wealthy but funded by the taxpayers.

What others are saying

  • Job banks
Job Banks My F%^(**& ass. You pay folk to play crossword puzzles and
f* off...........Taxation Without Representation! Tea Party anyone???
  • Never underesitmate the power of stupid people in large groups.
I do not want my tax $$ to be put in the hands of the very same CEOs that apparently can't run their own businesses successfully in the first place. What makes anyone think that an infusion of cash will all of a sudden cure the ineptitude of the "Top Brass" in the Big 3?

I swear if this bail out goes through I will never buy anyof their vehicles again.
  • Bwaney Fwank
Bwany Fwank needs to be locked up for being so stupid. They would love him in gen pop in a prison.
  • Whose Money?
I can't believe that guy is a Republican. No wonder they lost. If it's not my money, I think I'll stop working so hard for it. Sheesh.
  • Barney Frank, Unhinged
Coming from the man who ran a male prostitution ring from his apartment, nothing he utters surprises me. Nevertheless, the Dummycrats are caught in a bind---bail out the auto industry and have the taxpayers subsidize the UAW, with avg. worker wages of over $140,000/yr? Or cut them off and lay the blame on the UAW for the ridiculous wage structure that pushed the Big3 to extinction?

Seems to me that they can't make the wealth envy argument here nor can they bail out an industry held hostage by the UAW. It's fun to see the other side squirm for a change....
  • "Income inequality"
Hilarious. Barney Frank, a man who oversaw the financial meltdown of Fannie and Freddie then blamed republicans and lies to America by mischarecterizing the financial industry as having no oversight (it's the most carefully regulated industries in the world) talks about income inequality.
So tell me, Mr. Frank, why should anyone go to college or post-graduate school if you want income equality? Should I pay a secretary the same as a CEO?
Marxist and communists. Why are so many dummycrats marxists and communists? This IS still the USA, right?
  • Unions
Please tell me what union membership gets you that you are already not afforded by legislation and employment regulations?
  • Bailout
Where was all this sympathy and concern when the textile and furniture industries crashed and burned, putting thousands upon thousand of non-union people out of work ? Wait, I think I just answered my own question...
  • the bailout
What an arrogant SOB this Knollenberg sounds like-typical Democrat. Where does he think the money comes from? We are so screwed with the dems!!
  • Auto Bailout
You got to laugh at how politicans are trying to make people believe that if we don't bail out the big three the world will come to an end. Well most of us understand that its the UAW thats getting bailed out. They might lose their pensions. Well sorry about that. Don't cry foul to me, not unless your going to do something about my pension. I was looking forward to retirement in two years. Doesn't seem like a reality now. And before someone post it, yes there are some people tat will have to work till SSI kicks in, but not my fault. Not my responsiblity. You do whats right, play by the rules and it don't mean a thing...
  • I've said it before......
If the Federal Government touches it, it stinks. You see what this monster that has been created is doing already? And it is still in its infancy. Watch out folks, we ain't seen nuthin' yet.
  • Airlines did it
I work at United Airlines, I went through the bankruptcy and lost my pension, but gained a large deposit into my 401k. Bankruptcy was used to shed inefficient airplanes and many facilities that no longer served their purpose. It was painful for everyone below a manager's position, but necessary. Also the airlines were denied a bailout, United was denied several times, and rightly so.
The Big Three need Chapter 11 to reduce their facilities and labor force to compete. This includes abrogating the union contracts (I am conservative union myself).
  • Simply Amazing
I am sure Knollenberg will win his comeback election in six years as a Democrat the way he is going. I expect this drivel from Barney Frank, but its scary to know that a republican could be such a Statist. Where is lynch mob from the Republican party that Lieberman got from the Dems? Republicanism is certainly not conservatism anymore. I'll need to order my Rosetta Stone German class pretty soon if I know whats good for me.
  • Good money after bad
The UAW and its supporters in congress have ruined the American auto industry. Most people understand that. The only hope that exists for Ford, GM, and Chrysler is to break the death grip of the UAW by restructuring.
A bail out now will delay the inevitable death of these companies and will only accomplish another tranfer of wealth from the productive to the unproductive until GM, Ford and Chrysler are truly dead and buried.

  • It isn't my Money?
Well that is terrific news! Let them spend it all they want.
