IF IT'S WORTH DOING, THE GOVERNMENT SHOULD DO IT.

Barack Obama has announced that he has a grand plan to save our country. His solution ... this shouldn't surprise you ... is more government. He wants to save or create 2.5 million jobs by investing billions of your tax dollars into government works projects. These projects include building roads and bridges, developing alternative energy sources and making efficient cars. This investment also includes a "modernization" of our government schools.

Well ... that's our new president for you. Anything worth doing is worth doing through government. Government: Bringing All Things to All People.

Even Chuckie Schumer called this what it is, it is "a little like having a new New Deal, but you do it before a depression occurs, not after." And how much is this new New Deal going to cost? Well this is government we are talking about. So what you can assume is that it will be expensive, inefficient and the results more likely than not unsatisfactory.

Perhaps the best news to come out of all this was the prospect that Obama may delay his promises to increase taxes on the evil, putrid, hated, disgusting, rancid, rotton-to-the-core rich. The liberals and wealth envy crowd are furious. But two Obama aides over the weekend said that Obama may consider delaying a "roll back" on the Bush tax cuts that are set to expire in 2011. Remember, the phrase "roll back" is the catchy way to say "increase taxes." Keep in mind that Obama's current website says, "Obama will ask the wealthiest 2% of families to give back a portion of the tax cuts they have received over the past eight years to ensure we are restoring fairness and returning to fiscal responsibility." I just love that phrase "give back." Oh, and "fairness." Fairness is when someone else has a claim to what you have earned. Remember ... if a wealthy American wants to keep their money, that's greed. If someone wants to take it away from them by force, that's fairness.

Just a question though ... if Obama wants to create these public works projects, and implement universal healthcare, and spend more on our government schools ... where is he planning to get all of this money for new spending?

What others are saying

  • NOT JUST THE RICH
My son-in-law is lazy. He depends on the government to provide over $7,000 a year welfare for a family of 4. He made 12,900 for the year and paid in $110 in taxes. He is getting a refund of $6,209. I think Obama should only give the first $1,000 and put the rest back in the welfare system. I paid in $13,000 and made less than 56,000 for being in business for ourself. Mom and pops shop ae history, and we're in oil field work.
  • NO BAILOUT
Spending more is Never a good idea. The gov't will choose what company is "worthy" then send a bill to small businesses across the country. As the mega companies and unions strengthen, the small companies will be closing.
  • Govt. work programs
Let's see now, the Govt. will open housing camps for the road and bridge work groups that will be paid for by the Federal Govt. Only men will be allowed to live in these camps whle the work is being completed and it will be done by Govt. paid workers (salary?) and not put out to union bids. Workers will travel across this land since all jobs will not be for just local workers. Meals and lodging will be provided for all male workers and the monies earned will be deposited into bakn accounts so that families can draw on these accounts. All work will be completed with equipment relative to the 1930's and will not use modern tools.
The slogan for this project will either be "Work will set you Free". or "For a change, Work!"
  • economics
I think government investment/spending during a downturn is just the right approach and has a net positive effect on the economy. It's a smart move.
  • asking the wealthy
It says that Obama is going to *ask* the wealthy to pay more. What will he do if they say no? Take it by force? Don't see that mentioned anywhere.
  • Obama channeling FDR
All the CCC style road and bridge projects have to be paid for somehow. So who are we going to declare war on(since the war was the only thing that saved the U.S. from economic oblivion)? Obama has to live up to the legacy of FDR,what an unenviable position to be in. But then again, chicks dig Presidents! There are some perks to the job!
  • Building bridges?
Wounldn't builing roads and bridges be temporary work? I know the gov't is slow but once something is built, the people would be out of work again. Unless they then become permanent gov't employees. O NO!
  • "Spread the Wealth" ??
I've been doing that all my life. It is called GENEROSITY! Give what you want, when you want, to who you want.
  • Give BACK?
"Obama will ask the wealthiest 2% of families to give back a portion of the tax cuts they have received over the past eight years" - So we can expect a bill (retroactive) for some of the revenue that the government "lost" by having mistakenly taxed me at a lower rate than they should have? Talk about killing capital and entrepreneurship? That would definitely shut down my entrepreneurial startup, putting all of my 80+ employees out of work, and killing some critical technology that all the govt. agencies want now, that is not available from ANYONE else.... This is getting better and better.... I wonder if people in Germany prior to WWII felt like this? "This CAN'T be happening in our country, this is the 20th Century...." (guess again).
  • FDR would be proud??? No, Herbert Hoover would be!
It was Hoover's tax increases, roll back of Coolidge's deregulation, protectionism, and general interventionism that brought on the Great Depression. Hoover's responses to it were classic interventionism -- the Reconstruction Finance Corporation. The Roosevelt and Gardner campaign warned against Hoover's centralization of power, out of control spending, and efforts at "leading the country down the path to socialism". As Rexford Tugwell said, "practically the whole New Deal was extrapolated from programs that Hoover started".

There is a precedent for a national government engaging in "modernization of schools". In 1930s and 40s Germany, there was an organization called "Schonheit des Arbeits" (SdA, Beauty of Work), part of the the "Deutsche Arbeitsfront" (DAF, German Labor Front), which went from workplace to workplace modernizing facilities, including updating machinery, build cafeterias, establishing smoking-free workplaces, and reducing noise pollution.
  • Taxes for fairness
I'm reading the Constitution and trying to read the Federalist Papers (blasted Ole English). Originally taxes were intended for the "necessities" of government. I don't how you can classify "fairness" as a necessity of government and a legitimate constitutional reason for applying unequal taxes. It is apparent that taxes are being used to punish well doing people. Isn’t this also an unequal and unfair application of law? If I’m to be punished and pay the fine of higher taxes shouldn’t I have a trial and accusers showing why I should legally be punished for a crime and punished with a higher tax than others?
I think the current tax code should be challenged on the merits of unequal application of punishment.
  • CHANGE is creating FAIRNESS in Golf, too
The USGA Would Like To Inform All Golfers of a major possible rule change

There is a possibility of MAJOR rule changes to the game of golf, this may occur after November 4.

This is only a preview as the complete rule book is being written now.

Here are a couple of basic changes.
    Golfers with handicaps:
    - below 10 will have their green fees increased by 35%
    - between 11 and 18 will see no increase in green fees
    - above 18 will play for free and even get a check from the club/course played.

The dollar amount put in for bets will be as follows:
-for handicaps below 10 an additional $10
-between 11 and 18 no additional amount
-above 18 you will receive the total amount in the pot and you do not even have to play.

The term "gimme putt" will be changed to "entitlement"
and will be used as follows:
    -handicaps below 10, no entitlements
-handicaps above 11 to 17, entitlements for putter length putts
-handicaps above 18, if on green, no need to ever putt, just pick it up

These entitlements are intended to bring about fairness in scoring so that the final scores of all players will be about the same.

In addition, a Player will be limited to a max of one birdie and/or six pars, any excess must be given to those fellow players who have not yet scored a birdie or par. Only after all players have received a birdie or par from the player making the birdie or par, can that Player begin to count his score again.

The current USGA handicap system will be used for the above purposes but the term "net score" will be available only for scoring those players with handicaps 18 and above. This is intended to "redistribute" the success of winning by making sure that in every competition the above 18 handicap players will post only "net score" against every other player's gross score.

These new Rules are intended to CHANGE the game of golf. Golf must be about Fairness Only, it should have nothing to do with Ability.
  • taxes for the rich
Something has been going through my little head lately. If the 10% tax cut everybody was a tax cut for the rich, then if there was a 10% tax increase for everybody be a tax increase for the rich?
  • What Obama said
Obama said that he was going to create OR save two million jobs...I noticed that not a single journalist pointed out that this statement doesn't mean anything. As long as two million people are still working at the end of his term, he can claim he had kept this promise...where are the critical thinkers?
  • Give to the IRS
So why don't we make the IRS a charitable organization of sorts and whoever wants to 'give more' be 'more patriotic' can give to the IRS in return for a tax break like they would get if they were donating to a true charity. Then all the bed wetting Beverly Hills liberals could give to their hearts content! Oh wait, they could already do that and they DON'T. They just want everyone else to have to do it before they will do it.
  • Link it back to voter registration
If these people want to vote for raising taxes and creating a nanny state lets make a socialist surcharge for those who voted them into power. If they want it so bad they can pay for it.
  • giving back
the portrait of your life you paint is up to your talent and effort. our country provides a canvas and the materials needed that relatively few on the planet enjoy. so in giving back you're appreciating the communication and transportation infrastructure we have and the freedom and security we have that allows you to "paint your picture". i know the wealthiest pay the bulk of taxes, they also have the vast bulk of expendible income. however, the blood, sweat and tears (and deaths) in the manual labor and defence of this land are priceless. every one of us could have been born HIV positive in sub-Sahara Africa with flies et. al. dining on our open sores. it's not all luck by no means but if you were born in the US with people that love you, you might consider yourself the "luckiest person on the face of the earth" (Lou Gerhrig). (add your own reverb)
  • Ask? Yea - right
"Obama will ask the wealthiest 2% of families to give back a portion of the tax cuts they have received over the past eight years to ensure we are restoring fairness and returning to fiscal responsibility."

This is the same as what Clinton did.
Using the work "ask" implies a choice.
    Taxes are not a choice.
    Truth is:
"Obama will FORCE the wealthiest 2% of families to give back a portion of the tax cuts they have received over the past eight years to ensure we are restoring fairness and returning to fiscal responsibility."
  • The Clinton Administration's "second wind"
I remember when Bill Clinton was in command, and he said he wanted to "create" jobs. Shortly thereafter (while travelling the country chasing a Stevie Nicks concert tour all over this great nation) I noticed 40 and 50 mile stretches of road that were being resurfaced when there was absolutely nothing wrong with the existing road. It would irk me because traffic would slow down to 45mph and stay that way for miles on end where no work was being done! But hey, people had their jobs. We're going to see a comeback of this.
  • WPA
We know where the money is coming from, we will print it. My question is, where are the workers coming from? Youcan;t just walk of the street, needing a job and start building bridges, roads or even modernizing school buildings. We had a shortage of builders, hence all the illegal aliens in construction. Look for a massive jobs training program to go with the new jobs, at government expense of course!
  • Obama Quote
"Obama will ask the wealthiest 2% of families to give back a portion of the tax cuts ... "

I love the "ask" part of that quote. Going to ask them through the IRS?

Does a mugger ask for your cash?
  • Yes, Tax The Rich!
Will President Barack Obama ask Oprah Winfrey, Barbara Streisand, George Clooney, Steven Spielberg, and other rich people who supported him give back a portion of the tax cuts they got from the Bush years of tax cuts back to the country to restore fairness?
Why fight against Obama's taxing the rich, join em. I am in favor of taxing Oprah Winfrey 90% over $5 million dollars she makes. She should donate a portion of her earnings to the country to restore fairness. She makes too much money anyway and she can afford it.
  • Delaying the tax increase on "evil" rich
"President-elect Barack Obama may consider delaying a campaign promise - to roll back tax cuts on high-income Americans - as part of his economic recovery strategy, two aides said on Sunday.
    ...
Obama has called for reducing taxes for the middle class, but requiring the wealthiest Americans to pay more than the current top rate of 35 percent.

His aides’ comments suggest Obama may be wary of imposing any additional tax burden at a time of deep crisis, despite the outlook for record budget deficits and mounting national debt. He may also be seeking to bolster Republican support for his recovery measures."

Read that part again: "wary of imposing any additional tax burden at a time of deep crisis"! Let’s look at what he’s saying here, shall we?

“Tax increases, even on the rich, are bad for the economy. Our economy is in the crapper right now. It would be foolish to increase taxes, especially on the producers, right now. If we did, unemployment would rise even higher, and tax shelters would see their deposits skyrocket.

“Therefore, I won’t be increasing taxes any time soon. Once the economy has recovered, THEN I will damage the economy with tax increases. After all, I just acknowledged that tax increases are bad for the economy...but it’s OK to damage the economy if it’s in better shape than it is right now. Got it?”
  • "GOVERNMENT SHOULD DO IT"
Another government program, BS, we have a government program where people receive a government check for doing nothing...... WELFARE!!!!
Make these folks earn their government check instead of just giving it to them. I know that these folks don’t want too; I also know that there are a few that can not work; I’m talking about those that are physically and mentally capable. Make these folks get off their lazy "A$$" and get to work.
These folks could do work for the government or be government contracted. Send them to pick veggies (this would do away with the "IMIGRANT WORKERS FROM MEXICO") or work in the national parks (maintenance work) or a multitude of other jobs that need to be filled.
This would be a good “CHANGE”; these folks could learn some good skills, maybe earn their own living and get off of welfare. WOW, imagine that, people actually earning their money.
  • If it worth doing, the government should do it.
"Obama will ask the wealthiest 2% of families to give back a portion of the tax cuts they have received over the past eight years to ensure we are restoring fairness and returning to fiscal responsibility."

It is only "asking" if there is a choice.
  • Obama's jobs program
FDR would be proud. Obama's proposing WPA II. Do we get the Great Depression II along with it?
  • liberty minded ?
