What others are saying

  • Drat
I'm losing it, I only scored 30 out of 33. But I misclicked on one answer. Lucky that there weren't any Hollywood or American Idol questions on it, then the Obama voters would have scored well. I stopped voting Democrat once I got out of college (grad school), which coincided with Reagan's election.
  • Skewed
I don't believe in multiple choice tests. You have a 25% chance of getting a question right, even if you have no idea! Ask these questions as short answer (even one sentence) and people will get much worse grades.

I teach math, so I never give multiple choice tests. Which of course means I have major issues with standardized tests (most of which are multiple choice)!!!
  • Civic Quiz
Just took test and missed 3 out of 33.
Progressives are smart and good looking. That is some of us are.
  • civics test
100% 33/33 I was surprised but did expect to get 30/33. This test should be a requirement for voting and holding office. If one can't get better than 70% shouldn't be allowed to vote
  • 30 out of 33
I should have scored better, but I didn't read all of the answers. Not too bad though. But none of this will matter once Barry Obama has the new "Enlightened" version of the Constitution, Bill of Rights and Supreme Court.
  • This is very easy
I got 30 out of 33. I am just in college. If people don't know these things, why are they voting? The average score is 77%. That just goes to show how far education has failed.
  • This is very easy
I got 30 out of 33. I am just in college. If people don't know these things, why are they voting? The average score is 77%. That just goes to show how far education has failed.
  • You answered 31 out of 33 correctly — 93.94 %

Hmm & I'm a 15 year old public high schooler
  • seriously?
Ok, pushing an agenda? Seriously? Grow a pair and just admit you are a moron. Second of all, why are you people talking about certain groups scoring higher than others? Did you see the stats? People across the board regardless of race, gender, political affiliation and income did awful. Thats like bragging about winning the special olympics.
  • Bias
32/33 I find it telling that some think that capitalism / free market economics is a political bias rather than the history of this country.
  • 30 of 33
I got 30 of 33, missed of the economics questions, but then I is a gubmint skool grajiate. To the clowns whining that hte quiz presents an agenda, get a life! It's basic history (which I knew) and basic economic principles (which I didn't know as well as I thought)

Sign me as another bitter American still clinging to my guns and religion in the dawning of the United Socialist States of America........
  • Civicls Quiz
78% not bad for a person who is only 17, right?
  • civics test
I think this test should be taken before a ballot is handed to a voter, we'd have a different look in our congress/senate and white house
  • Civics Test
88.7% Not bad for an Air Forse Retiree
  • Civics
Hey! There wernt no quesjons bout them little Honda cars on this heah test!
  • I wonder...
...how many others sent this to Neal. I saw it briefly on the Yahoo home page.

I missed yesterday's show, had surgery Tuesday.

Those claiming bias towards "conservative" politics must not understand capitalism....

Did anyone else notice that the self-identified elected officials scored well on the gov't spending questions?
  • CIVIC QUIZE
SCORED 69%, I FOLLOW POLITICS MINUTE BY MINUTE AND I UNDERSTAND HOW COMPLEX THIS NATION IS. BASED ON MY EDUCATION AND ABILITY TO RETAIN INFORMATION, I HOPED I WOULD HAVE DONE BETTER. MAYBE BARACK WILL REALISE "HOPE" DOESN'T SOLVE ANYTHING, IT JUST GETS YOU THROUGH THE ROUGH TIMES.
  • Civic quiz
31/33 only because I read the Almanac in the bathroom. I did not get the knowledge from gov't schools. Here is my point: a liberal arts teacher in my neighborhood recently did not believe me when I casually stated JFK served in the US Navy in WWII and was a hero. Told her the quick PT 109 story and she interrupted with hands on her hits and said NO! I was wrong... that "it was John Kerry and that she heard it all on CNN"... She walked away wagging her finger telling me "I did not study my history lessons in school". Educators today who indoctrinate our children on what they perceive based on biases and half truths and on what they hear in media vs. education based on historical facts are the root cause of the problem of many folks. I am dissapointed in anyone who did not get at least 75%.
  • Ouiz
    30/33=90.91

    That's OK.
  • I tried in both Firefox and IE, but it would not grade my quiz, saying that I had skipped some questions. Are the answers posted somewhere?
  • civics quiz
The questions I missed were what I would view as trivia.

The main thing I noticed about this quiz is the absence of questions about rights. Rights are the source of our American liberty and freedom, yet few people understand the concept, even fewer people know what their rights are, and even fewer people have a clue how to defend their rights.

This quiz is typical of many high school civics classes. Full of trivial unimportant stuff, while ignoring the really important stuff.
  • Civics Quiz
31 out of 33! I have five kids ranging in age from 18 to 29. Not one of them had any clue to the answers of any of the questions. When I was in grammar and high school in the Chicago suburbs back in the 70s, we were required to take a federal and state constitution tests to graduate junior high and high school. My kids are the product of the Ft. Worth TX ISD, and have never had any requirement to study the constitution, but they all know the cheat codes to the popular video games. No wonder the youth of the country voted for “Change”, despite not knowing what “Change” is.
  • quiz
got 85 over my morning coffee.
  • civics
    28/33 = 85%

I'm happy with that. What did Neal score?
  • My score
    76.75 -- 25/33
I homeschool and to be honest, I didn't understand most of the economy questions. I will brush up on that before my son goes into his senior year next year. Thanks for the link!
  • 22/33 66%

Would have gotten some of what I missed though. I'm at work so I had to hurry.

Sad that even in a rush I beat most of the country...

But hey, it's history. So what's it matter? Why learn history? It's not like it could ever happen again right. This country is sad.
  • 32/33
Missed the one on public goods.
  • making informed decisions
88% I guess my vote was based on knowledge, not feel good propaganda
  • Civics Quiz
Hey boortz! what did you score on the quiz?
  • 30/33
  • Pretty Scary
I scored a 94%. If the comparison table possesses any merit, we the people deserve any government we get when we elect such ignorance to public office. Be afraid; be very afraid.
  • 100%
I don't know what shocked me more, that I got a perfect score, or that professional politicians scored below 50%. Almost all of the questions were 7th to 9th grade stuff. Scary.
  • quiz
Looks like Neal's listeners have skewed the average way up by him posting this. The web site says the average for this test has been just below 50%, depending on if you were an elected official or not. The November average is 78%, and I bet the majority of high scores were in the hours since Neal posted this. I got a 91 myself without "really" thinking about it. It only took me about 5 minutes.
  • hmmm...31 out of 33 not bad for a law student. I do need to point out the average score is 78% on it at this point so the little blurb at the top is not exactly accurate.
  • 25 out of 33 = 75.76%

Well above the pathetic average score!
But I should have done better.
  • Obviously a biased "quiz"
I scored 30 out of 33, but you should note that only questions 1-24 are really about civics and American history. The remainder are conservative-economic propaganda disguised as a civics quiz.
  • Civix Quiz
Mebbe I shudda studded more in skool.

    You answered 21 out of 33 correctly — 63.64 %
  • Not civics and biased
This test is biased with a political agenda and some of the questions were not civics (e.g., "how does our government work?" vs. "who said ?"). Many of the questions were college level so I'm not surprised that many people score poorly on this test.
  • I scored 100%
    You believe me, right?
  • Civics Quiz
hey I got 72 not bad for a high school drop out if all my test were like this maybe i would have finished but there could not hold my attention cars girls
  • 81%
I got an 81%, same as high school. I sure hope I do better on this in college
  • Only missed 4
Puritans (in hindsight, I shouldn't have missed that), Gettysburg Address (Hey I've never read it at my govn't school), Socrates/Plato/Aristotle, and the Lincoln debate (I thought it was States leaving the Union rather than expansion of slavery, since a few territories had slavery. Again, I never studied the debates, only that there existed a debate)
  • The true elite
In my opinion, the types of people who can score better than 85% on this quiz should be the ones leading this country. When did we decide to accept mediocrity in our leadership?

Read your history. There's so much to know about what has gone before, and it should influence decisions about what is to come.

    Thanks for posting this Neal.
  • Darn! 28 out of 33.
84.85% I missed the "decreasing taxes and increasing spending" question, too. I went with decreasing both. Plus a couple of "I shoulda known that" moments.
  • Gubment Edjumakated
    84.5%
  • WOO HOO
Got 30 or 33..and I thought I slept through most of school. Osmosis at work?
  • I guess well
    32 out of 33. I missed #7 - Gettyburg address.

I live in China and get all my news comes frm Drudge, Neal, and International Herald Tribune plus some Camille Paglia.
  • 32 out of 33!!
I only missed that Puritan one and I should have gotten than one.

Thanks for posting Neal. I love this type of stuff.
  • 31/33
I'm putting together a little survey using this quiz. What do you want to wager that BHO supporters average below 50%.
  • 32 of 33
I got 32 right, including all of the economics questions (entrepreneur who has also taught econ to college students). I missed the gettysburg address question. I made it all the way through school without having to memorize that speech. Oh well, I was gubmint educated in the inner city in my K-12 years. I paid attention in 9th grade civics class and 12th grade government class (they repeated the same darn thing, easy coast class my Senior year). The economics stuff I learned in college and in my MBA program. That was private school and self funded.
  • 96.97%
Missed one out of 33. I really think a test like this should have to be passed with a 70% before one could cast a vote in ANY election!!!
  • Civics Quiz
I feel sorry for those who think they scored high on this quiz. After taking the quiz and receiving the score I compared the answers they say I had with the answers I actually gave. No where near the same, the scoring is in error on many of the questions. Almost like an extreme lefty answered the quiz.
  • Redneck from Alabamastan
I enjoyed the test. I scored 93%, 31 out of 33. The test was simple, but had enough questions that were not everyday knowledge to make it interesting.
55% average for college grads would be just sad if only their vote did not have an ability to affect my life.
  • 29 out of 33
    87.88%

I'm kicking myself for not getting number 7 or 33 correct, I had them both right the first time, but then changed them before I submitted. Numbers 4 and 14 were just guesses. I never read much about the Lincoln/Douglas debates or the Puritans. Thanks government school!
  • Even the French kick ASS!!!!
Born in Paris, France and better educated than those being subjected to those horrible Government controled school's in America, I managed a 80%! Goes to show even the French can run this sad Government and do a better job at it! ;-)
  • civics quiz
29 out of 33 .... i guess not too bad
  • CIVICS TEST - UGH
    You answered 27 out of 33 correctly — 81.82 % Average score: 78.0%

Guess I should be embarrassed to report that reading how the others did. Oh well, I suppose it's not too bad for an older than dirt retired USN enlisted man.

Matt: AMEN!!! Plus no one on the public dole is allowed to vote. It's nothing but a conflict of interest.

The Crawfish: Thank you for your service.
  • I'm a Rock
    I got a 69.70.
but on the other hand I have been out of school 20 plus years and never went to college. So I would say not too bad. Oh and looking up the answers online while you take the test is Cheating!
    Shame shame.
  • Quiz
I scored an 84.85%. 28 out of 33. I was disappointed until I saw the averages.
  • 73%
Not bad for an elected offical! Was never much better than a "C" anyway.
  • Civics Quiz
32/33, not too bad. Credit a New England education in the mid '70's, before things got politically correct. (I went to many a town hall meeting with my father, think Norman Rockwell's "freedom of Speach".
  • Results
Got 76%. A few I did not read closely enough and a few I did not know. Not bad though.
  • Civics quiz
28 outta 33...not bad for a "redneck bible & gun clinger." Still, too good to be and elected idiot.
  • civics quiz
I got 67.9---my daughter won't be happy with me--she has taught social studies for 18 years. I plan to do some studying--!
  • that wasn't tough..
I got all 33 right... and it's been a LONG time since I got out of college.
  • The Test!
I got 81%, which ain't too bad for a RETIRED 63 year old high school drop out, hey!
  • Quiz
29 out of 33. Not bad because I haven't studied Civics or Governement in school since the mid 80's.
  • Wow
I brain farted on a couple questions and I still got 81.8%. I still think I should have done better. How in the hell do elected officials score so poorly on it?!?
  • Civics test
I enjoyed taking this test, and will encourage my family and friends to try it. I scored 28 out of 33. you should send it to Jay Leno to use for his Jay walking segment.
  • got 31 out of 33
I actually would argue the one I got wrong should have been half credit. I do think a free market is the best way to preserve contract and property rights.
  • Got 84.85%. Most missed questions dealt with prior to the 20th century, except for the one about FDR's "New Deal," I brain farted and selected LBJ's "Great Society."
  • Quiz
Got 100%...though a few I had to reason out...thank god it was multiple choice! This test ought to be mandatory to graduate any school.
  • High school drop out got
    27 out of 33 correctly — 81.82 %
  • Civics Quiz
I missed 1. There were several that I didn't know the answer immediately, but process of elimination made the answer obvious. I think that goes to show not only that American's don't know there Civics, but they don't know how to use critical thinking skills. Thanks for posting it Neal.
  • 78.8%
Does this mean I'm smarter than a 5th grader or that I'm a product of government schools?
  • 32 of 33
I guess I need to brush up on my knowledge of the anti-Federalists...other than that, perfect score.
Not too bad for a physicist, Army vet, and (just to irk Neal) smoker. lol
    JFH
  • bogus economics question on Quiz
The only one it said I missed was about How the Government should handle a recession or something: I selected "decreasing taxes and decreasing [gov't] spending", but it said the "correct" answer was "decreasing taxes and increasing spending".
So that's a bunch of crap.
  • What agenda?
To the poster that claimed this test put forth an agenda, care to tell us how? I answered questions based on economic theory, historical facts, the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence. You take a different test?
  • silly quiz
Neal, that really wasn't so much of a civics quiz as a conservative economics quiz, that said, my liberal butt still got 31 correct, see we're not all dumb!
  • result = 91%
I knew I was unqualified for public office!
  • Test
93.94%, 31/33. Missed the "Of the people, for the people, and by the people". Somehow I was thinking it was in the Declaration. Also missed #30. Due to what's happening now, I answered "Decrease taxes, decrease spending". The way the morons are going now, with us borrowing gobzillions of dollars, we'll have hyper-inflation in no time.
  • Seems simple enough..
    I got 30/33 90.91%

The questions I missed were the Lincoln/Douglas debate, Socrates and Government spending during a recession.
  • I'm disappointed in myself
    I only got 78.8%.
  • 30 out of 33
thats not too bad although I will admit that I totally guessed on the greek phyilosophy question and got it right. So I'll give myself a 29 of 33.
  • Another @#*&%$%! Canadian
Greetings from Canuckistan. I got 84.85% and have to say I learned what I knew mostly through talk and public radio ad of course, doing my "homework" on the net.

Good luck with that (Un)fairness Doctrine and to Senator Chambliss.
  • results
II took it on the fly and got 29 of 33. Not bad, but it irks me that I missed any at all.....thanks for posting this, Neal!!
  • 31 correct
Several co-workers have also taken it and the worst score has been 27 correct, but we're all conservatives. I'm trying to find the only liberal in the building to make him take it. I think he's hiding!
  • basic questions
I got a 33/33. Its not that hard. There goes any hope I had of becoming an elected official.
  • 76%
I would have done better without all that beer for lunch.
  • 29/33 = 87.88%
Not bad for someone losing her brain cells! Going to have my husband and my 6th grade daughter take it when she gets home... and send the link to her history teacher. 3 of the questions I missed were economics! I am still trying to figure out why the GOV is giving money to business instead of just giving every one with a SSN a million to get their debt ridden butts out of debt instead of giving business money to allow people to get more into debt.
  • Time Waster is right
Be nice if the quiz dealt only with civics and didn't try to push a political agenda.

oh, and I got 100% correct.
  • 91%
Missed 3. The Lincoln/Douglas debates, Socrates, Plato and Aristotle, and government spending. The rest were 2 foot putts. Gimmes.
  • 5th grade results
I took it and got 31/33.
Had my fifth grade students take this real quick. 100% of my students got 100% of the Constitution/Bill of Rights questions right. The economics was over their head. And I'm not touching Scopes nor Roe v Wade with a 10ft Pole...I like my job!
Yes Neal, government educated students aced the part appropriate for their age. I'd put my fifth graders up against high school kids any day on civics.
I'm having my kids parents take it over the Thanksgiving break.
  • 100%
Okay, I got 33 of 33 on the test. I didn't find it all that challenging. Passing this test (70%) should become a requirement for voting in this country. If you can't answer at least 70% of the questions correctly, you have no business casting a vote and subecting us to a BHO administration
  • 44%?
If people are actually scoring that low on this test on average, that is a sad statement indeed.
    (90% here)
  • civics quiz
I got a 96.97% on the quiz, missing the last question. By the way, I'm the one who said I got most of my news from NPR.
  • Too High
I scored a 70. I guess I am too knowledgable to be a government offical.
  • You answered 23 out of 33 correctly — 69.70 %
Everything I know I learned from Neal!!
  • Civics Quiz
I just took this quiz and am ashamed to admit I only scored a 72%. However according to the summary data, I am still twice as qualified as most elected officials. At least than counts for something.
  • I got 84.16%
    And I am Canadian! Ha!
  • QUIZ
I heard you on the radio and just had to try it...81.2% Not too bad, eh? Others should share their score!
  • quiz
I guessed at 3 questions, so I only got 30 of 33 correct. Darn.

I guess I'm just an uneducated enlisted member of the armed forces....
