The VAT sounds somewhat similar to the Fair Tax, except it is added to the existing taxes rather than replacing them.<br> <br> Like government-provided health care, the VAT exists in other countries and may be a competitive advantage. Imports have to help pay the taxes. In the US the US corporations may foot a large portion of the bill, giving a penalty to the US corporations that is not seen by imports.
