The reason we don't close the border is because the Left NEEDS illegals to say, "see how down-trodden the masses are, you who can afford it need to pay for their stuff" to justify social spending. The Right NEEDS terrorists so they can say "see how dangerous these people are? Hand us your freedom in exchange for security" to justify things like the Homeland Security Act. An open border is crucial to the plan of removing your individual liberties which is crucial to the plan of world governance. If we were to close the borders, there would be no need to extend power. As for military spending, our constitution allows for and actually insists on keeping a standing army. It does not allow for international policing. There are times when our security is threatened by nations abroad. The problem is that it is very difficult to make that decision. We must spend militarily. I even agree that there is a reasonable level of social spending. I don't want to see anyone starve, although I would feed them in my own home if I thought that were really the case. The problem is that we have a ruling class that will LIE to get power. As they have been doing for decades(ever). One could argue that if there were no military spending then we could afford our social programs. Conversely, one could also argue that without social spending, we could afford to police internationally.
I think the best thing we could do for us and the worst thing we could do for the rest of the world would be to close our doors altogether and refuse to export or import for about 50 years. That would have them clamoring for our rampant consumerism again. Some countries(read that Middle East) are heavily dependent on our consumption of their oil.(this would seriously hurt there ability to outfit terrorists) The U.S. is still the hub of the world economy if not it's largest contributor. As long as we remain wealthy enough as individuals to retain our rights, worldwide socialism can be thwarted. Once we lose our freedoms, give a green light to world domination.
Closing the border makes sense if the powers that be want us to remain a free country. The problem is that they don't.
