I heard Michael Medved put it in perspective pretty well yesterday. George Gershwin died at the age of 38, in 1937. Wrote some of the most widely recognized music of the last 100 years. Was he celebrated in this same fashion. Hardly. Different times, of course. Lesser accomplishments? Lesser talent? Lesser impact on the culture? The caller was totally clueless, stumped, and in over his head.
