Shaprton's point was that before Michael Jackson, MTV would not play any music by any black artist.<br> <br> The powers that be at CBS Records were willing to pull all of their songs off of MTV to get MJ's song played, which created the environment that other black artists could use to increase their audience.<br> <br> If true, then MJ did for music what Jackie Robinson did for baseball and MLK did for politics.<br> <br> Given that he is in the Guiness book of World Records as the music artist donating to the most charities indicates that MJ wanted to help others.<br> <br> In the later years, it is possible that MJ was literally living a childhood that he never had, and there was nothing else going on.<br> <br> Did the media overplay this?<br> <br> The rating books will tell that tale.<br> <br> If people watched, then they didn't.<br> <br> If people tuned out and read books (or played video games) then they'll suffer a loss of revenue.
