When has a politician ever replaced one tax with another? There'll be both taxes. <br> <br> IIRC, the gas tax revenue used to go into the highway trust fund to be used for road construction and repair. Then some politicians decided the gas tax money should go into the general fund. Time passes. Roads deteriorate. Must need to raise taxes to pay for road repair. Hmmmm. <br> <br> Get the price of gas waaaay up with cap-and-trade. Get the per-mile tax on driving the automobile waaay up. Then they'll have to figure out how to tax my bicycle and/or my shoe leather. If I manage somehow not to starve or freeze to death. Ooops, they're gonna have to reinstate the inheritance tax.
