The bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki were completely unnecessary. The evidence is overwhelming that the Japanese were already preparing to surrender. The only thing really holding them back was that they wanted to save face by keeping their emperor. We let them do this anyway, after the bombings.<br> <br> The surrender was also preceded as much by the Soviet declaration of war as the atomic bombings.<br> <br> Many of the military leaders of the time have said the bombing was unnecessary, including Nimitz and Eisenhower.
