Libertarians, God bless you. Your problem is the same that muted Rand. Guys (& girls) first thing is: there is God, not a God; God. The fact that you choose to believe or disbelieve is irrelevant, the vast majority of Americans believe, that is have Faith. We are tired of being dissed because of our faith. You need to get beyond the moral smugness of having no morals. Besides the Democrats have a lock on that.
Second, the Fair Tax aint never gonna fly. Get over it. The current tax structure works because it is for all intents and purposes hidden. Out of sight, out of mind, and the fact that most folks get a nice check (the 21st Century equivalent of a savings account) at the beginning of the year is a plus. Nobody wants to see their hard earned dollars pissed into a black hole every time they make a purchase. In the immortal words of Sarah Palin, Ya can put lipstick on it but it is still a pig or words to that effect. The problem with the fair tax is you have to look at it several times a day, every day. I already pay a 10% consumption tax to the state/county every time I go to the store and you want to slap another 23% (or more depending on whose analysis you read) on top of that! Nope, aint gonna happen.
The GOP, according to the referenced article, is trying to rebrand itself by leaving out moral issues, immigration and adding nationalized health care: Sounds like they want to be Democrats. They tried that in the last election with McCain the moderate, that didnt turn out too well and neither will this neo-GOP initiative because it is being touted by the same folks that lost the last election.
