I know many will brand me as cold and heartless, but at this point, the life of the captain has to become, at most, a minor concern. Our primary concern has to be preventing such incidents in the future. That means killing the pirates. If the captain dies in the process, it is an unfortunate cost of stopping piracy.

I really do not care about the desires of MAERSK. It is their ship and crew, but it is not about them. It is about stopping piracy, especially against American flagged vessels, immediately.

Paying the ransom, or any other action which shows we value the life of the captain more than we value stopping piracy, will only encourage the pirates to take other American flagged vessels.
