What the Democrats should push for is to require everyone employed by the stimulus be unionized. Illegal immigrants don't provide a cheaper and more efficient labor force because they are just better workers, but because they have no legal protection from abuse (like below minimum wage page). To a smaller extent, all non unionized workers do, especially in places like the Southeast where labor protections are minimual. I certainly don't want my tax dollars going to pay for sweatshop labor that provides only poor jobs. <br> <br> Of course, if we enforced labor standards universally, including for illegal immigrants and poor people in general, we wouldn't have nearly as much illegal immigration, and there would be no legitimacy to claims that illegal immigrants are taking our jobs. Not that there is much legitimacy at this point, though.
