As a native who left Orleans many years ago but grew up there I feel obligated to comment. Yes the wellfare state in Orleans is a example of a problem that can't be solved with more money. Leader ship in the state and local politics has been lacking since the days of Huey and Earl Long. The state supplies most of the natural gas and oil to the USA so their is no shortage of money only honest leaders.(A honest politican in Louisiana is one who stays bought)On a recent vist to New Orleans in Dec,2008 much of the area looked as if Katrina had happened only 6mos. earlier. Cleaned up but not rebuilt. This can be blamed on piss-poor leadership,(Mayor Ray Nagin couldn't lead his own hand to find his butt) Most of the ones who returned are determinded to rebuild and are not wanting a handout but a hand up.Politiking is stalling most of the progress and the blame game is still on. The politicans should lead, follow, or get the hell out of the way!
