There seems to be a belief that the information gained from torture would be acted upon without further investigation.<br> <br> Yes, Terrorist Abdul might tell you that there is a plan afoot to blow up the Bay Bridge. But what does that tell you? Abdul is either telling the truth, lying or, more likely, telling the truth with some lies to lead you astray.<br> <br> Intelligence is not actionable with only one data point. It is the information Abdul gave you combined with the information Achmed gave you and so on. Combine all that information with various circumstantial evidence and you have something.<br> <br> But the idea that if Abdul told us that Osama was hiding in the Louvre we would take that as gospel and rush off to bomb France is just ridiculous.<br> <br> It is not a black/white, true/false question.
