I voted "the truth" because I am aware of cases where torture resulted in the truth: John McCain, Guy Fawkes, etc., but I am not aware of cases where the answers turned out to be lies. I am sure such cases exist, but we need documented cases before "the person just saying anything" becomes a better answer.
