Here's a better experiment: place a dish upside down in a bowl such that the upturned bottom is higher than the top of the bowl. Fill the bowl to the brim with water. Pile ice onto the upturned dish. Wait for said ice to melt. Get a mop and clear up.<br> <br> That demonstrates the effect of land ice on Greenland melting.
