Here's the problem with Illinois (and, of course, Chicago): our politicians are all dirty and corrupt. We've sort of become accustomed to it. The problem is that we know that if we replace one with another, it's just a matter of time before the culture of corruption infects that guy.
Rod is a scum bag. He knew he was under intense investigation. He knew a new ethics bill was about to go into effect in January and had stepped up his efforts to get rich quick, hoping to get his 'fundraising' done before the bill became law.
So how does this affect Obama? We may never know. The connection between Obama and Blago is tenuous at best. Yes he supported his candidacy, but in Illinois especially, democrats support democrats no matter how dirty they are. The real link between the two lies in the hands on Rezko. Awaiting sentencing, you can bet that it can only benefit Rezko to sing like a canary about everything he knows and everyone he's helped - Blago, Daley, Durbin, the aldermen, and Obama. I guarantee the USA's will cut him a break if he squeals. He has no reason not to - his days of influence peddling, slum lording, and bribe/deal making are as over as can be. He very well might sing, and when he does implicate all of the above.
Obama has but one hope- he needs to completely seperate from the Chicago/Illinois political machine. Unless he does, he will be an illegitimate President who will have little success. I want Obama to be a good President - not because I voted for him, but for the same reason I so staunchly supported Bush: our President is our President. he is not a clown or a celebrity. He is our highest elected leader. I wish him well. His only chance to do well is to seperate from Chicago politics and be the honest, intelligent man of integrity the press insisted he is.
Those dolts who wish to pretend that because republicans have been dirty this is all of no signifigace can kindly shut the F*&K up. Quit drinking the kool-aid for a minute and step back from your blind hate for all things conservative. Conservatives are just as outraged and upset with the Rick Santorums and Larry Craigs of the world. Gov. Rod is a scum bag. Don't give him a pass because he has a D by his name. Illinoisans are seriously pissed off and outraged even though we knew this was coming. Only an idiot tries to pretend that what Rod was doing is okay by virtue of the fact that people like Senator Coleman are under investigation.
This is for folks that think like Socialist : You are hypocrites completely unconcerned with ideals like justice, fairness, and the prosecution of corruption. You lie to yourselves in an attempt to feel better. Realists don't care about party affiliation when it comes to corruption and betrayal of public trust. You do.
