The labor unions have for years coerced companies into giving high wages, medical benifits, retirement plans, etc. by striking for all the previously mentioned reasons. Until they realize that they have put the auto makers in a position where they can no longer compete, the auto makers will be in danger of going out of business. The end result should be for the auto makers to file chapter 11 so that these contracts can be renegotiated. Until then the auto makers will be in danger of not only failing, but the jobs they provide will be lost. I don't believe the unions should be disbanded, but they need to realize that if they put the auto makers out of buisness, they will also be responsible for the loss of jobs for there members.
