I am getting tired of hearing Nancy Pelosi and Barney Frank bloviating about how the Big 3 need to build responsible cars that people want. The problem isn't that they are not making more Chevy Volts that no one wants. The problem is government mandates such as CAFE and local content that prevents them from allocating resources and capacity to profitable products. As a result, they effectively have to put all their eggs in a couple of risky baskets in order to generate a return. Combine that with the union contracts and their business model is totally unworkable.
