Sure, the unions are the root cause, but to suggest that going into Ch. 11 protection will void the union contracts and bring the auto makers back into the black is only part of the story.<br> <br> The fact is that the auto makers have scores of retirees who get pension checks and health insurance from them. Voiding the union contracts will certainly help, but those obligations are not going away. Do you think Ford will just stop paying those pensions or insurance premiums? The outcry over that would be deafening. <br> <br> And if they DID do that, how long would it be before Obama and crew bailed out those retirees? <br> <br> Bottom line - the money is owed and it WILL be paid.
