I cannot comment on whether Boortz's favoring of Martin is on principle or on expedience. However, his argument seems to be out of expedience: a filibuster-proof Senate would hasten the evolution of left-leaning causes. If one were to vote on libertarian principles, one might reason Chambliss is to-vote-for since he reportedly supports the FairTax plan. On the flip side, such a person might consider not voting for him due to his voting for certain bills that encroach upon certain laissez-faire principles. So maybe since "voting on principle" is a coin-toss, one who normally votes in such a way should defer to expedience.
