I'm 59 years old. I have steady job and a military retirement. I'm OK, not great.

I have had the fortune to know several wealthy and successful people over the years. The guy that lives across the street from me started several businesses before becoming successful.

I have found one thing that all these people have in common. They work some ungodly amount of hours and never really have a "day off."

For myself? I graduated from high school in the 1960's. I had a chance to go to college but would have had to work my way through. I decided that SF and the 'Summer of Love' sounded better. So that's were I went.

I quickly learned that all these kids at Berkeley and in the Haight had no conception of real life. Most were surviving on checks from Daddy and the rest were surviving off them.

I attended an anti-war rally at the Oakland Induction Center in Oct 1967. I found that most of the demonstrators were idiot and the rest were there to get into the pants of the females. (Who were generally the more zealous)

Convinced that anything those idiots were for, I was against, I went down and enlisted in the Army. I retired in 1989.

Everything I am, ever was or was not, I owe entirely to myself. Wealth is not something that I have ever pursued nor is it something that greatly desire.

It does not bother me in the least when I observe that someone has a bigger house, a fancier car or nicer clothes (what's nicer than T-shirts and blue jeans?)

There's lots of things that I would do if I had the money but since I don't, I don't.

I have found that the two most destructive emotions in the world are envy and resentment. Go talk to any recovering addict or alcoholic and they'll tell you that those two emotions were at the bottom of their problems.

Curiously it seems to be exactly what the whole Democrat agenda is built on. Envy of other people's success and resentment that they have more than you.

It's ruined a lot of lives and there is no reason to believe that it will not do the same thing for our society.
