I work at United Airlines, I went through the bankruptcy and lost my pension, but gained a large deposit into my 401k. Bankruptcy was used to shed inefficient airplanes and many facilities that no longer served their purpose. It was painful for everyone below a manager's position, but necessary. Also the airlines were denied a bailout, United was denied several times, and rightly so.<br> The Big Three need Chapter 11 to reduce their facilities and labor force to compete. This includes abrogating the union contracts (I am conservative union myself).
