First we learned that the imam spearheading the Ground Zero mosque, Imam Faisal (Fuzzy) Abdul Rauf, is currently on a taxpayer funded trip to the Middle East. What is he doing over there? I presume that he is raising funds for his mosque .. or as Florida Moonbat Alan Grayson likes to call it, "his health club." Yeah, health club my left butt cheek. But as if sending Imam Fuzzy on a taxpayer-funded trip wasn't bad enough, we are now going to send Mrs. Fuzzy on a trip as well.
The State Department is sending Daisy Khan, Imam Fuzzy's wife, to the United Arab Emirates to talk about her views about Muslim life in America. Hmmm I wonder what she is going to say? Well .. over the weekend she described the outcry against her beloved mosque as "beyond Islamophobia. It's hate of Muslims." Now if that is what she told an American audience can you just imagine what she is going to say once she is on her own turf amongst her own people? Oh yeah ... she's really going to be such a great ambassador for the country that is fighting her husband's Mosque.
Go back to my previous bit about Obama being a Muslim ... or not. Another point .. Obama's State Department seems to be anxious to send Muslims abroad on the taxpayer's dime to speak to Muslims about being Muslim in America? Yeah .. that really quells the rumors, doesn't it?
Every day I am reminded of how gunched up over government our country has become. Take a look at these statistics from the New York Post. Considering these facts, is it any wonder that the private sector is scared to grow?
From January 2008 to January 2010, private-sector jobs plunged from 115.5 million to 106.8 million. But the number of federal, state and local public employees climbed up a tick, from 22.3 million to 22.4 million, as economist Veronique de Rugy recently noted. In other words, some 8.7 million private-sector jobs vanished, while the public sector gained 100,000 jobs.
Private-sector jobs began to fall almost immediately after the onset of the recession in December 2007. But state and local jobs remained steady, at least until last month, when states finally started laying off their workers, too. As for federal employment, as of July, it was nearly 10 percent higher than back then.
On Aug. 1, 2008, the portion of our national debt held by the public stood at $5.4 trillion. Now it stands at more than $8.8 trillion. As of the second quarter, GDP was growing at 2.4 percent, but many economists expect the growth rate to be revised down to 1.3 percent. So while our economy is growing at less than $19 billion per month, we are borrowing, based on the last two years, at the rate of more than $141 billion per month -- 7½ times faster.
This is exactly how Obama and the Democrats would have it. More government means more power to them. The private sector is the enemy. They will go to great lengths to demonize individual success and they will work to paint the rich as evil and greedy. The funny thing is .. at the rate we are going, the greedy rich will eventually be the very same government workers that they created. Then who will they pander to? Then whose pockets will they plunder?
I am waiting for someone to pull the "I gotcha!" out from under this one .. because it is so absurd that I have a hard time believing that even our government could be this dense. First of all, here is a figure I can believe: $194,213. That is how much the Government Accountability Office estimates it has cost for every job "created" by Obama's stimulus plan. Is there a sane American left who does not understand that the stimulus plan was never anything other than a compilation of Democrat politician spending dreams and schemes?
But ... as they say .. you ain't heard nuthin yet. Now we apparently a new way to classify a "job created" or a "job saved." Apparently these are no longer the terms of choice for the GAO. They have decided to go with a kinder, gentler phrase ..... "lives touched."
No I'm not kidding, folks. The Daily Caller has a quote from a spokesperson from the CH2M Hill Plateau Remediation Company explaining:
"'Lives Touched' is a figure that the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) uses to track the amount of people who have been positively affected by the Recovery Act funds. This total would include people who have been provided full time employment (i.e. saved and created jobs) through the Recovery Act and people who at some point have supported a project funded by the Recovery Act."
You want to talk about lives touched? Talk about the millions of Americans who can't find jobs right now because of the anti-business policies of the Democrats and the Obama administration. Now there are some lives touched.
Let's see how long this GAO "lives touched" bat guano lasts.
As if you didn't have enough between Nealz Nuze and the Reading Assignments ... here are a few government outrages we've been collecting this week. Have at 'em!
They say headlines are important ... same for the first 15 or 20 seconds when you come out of a newscast into a radio show. You have to grab people's attention. This is the era when, thanks to TV, Americans have this idea that all problems can be solved in one hour ... with commercials. Get it done quick or get out of town. Now this is a lot of time to spend on headline dynamics ... but it's less time than I spent trying to come up with a title of this portion of Neal's News. Tyranny is the word I chose to couple with the name of the person third in line for the presidency. She is surely one of the most dangerous politicians in this country.
This is supposed .... "supposed" being the operative word here ... to be a free country. Our constitution says that we have a right to "petition the government for a redress of grievances." For who's government education didn't include a sufficient explanation of this particular clause .. this means that we have a right to go to our representatives in government, complain about something that upsets us, and seek action to correct the situation. This is exactly what people are doing in the case of the Ground Zero Mosque. They don't like the idea of Muslims building a Mosque at Ground Zero* to stand as a monument to honor their 9/11 attack on America. We're talking almost 70% of Americans, and the numbers are growing. So these Americans express their outrages .. their grievances, if you will ... and demand ...petition ... that their elected representatives do something about it. And what does Nancy Pelosi have to say? She wants these people investigated! This, my friends, is the nature of our federal government under Democrat ruler with Nancy Pelosi sitting two heartbeats away from the Oval Office. (I'm thinking right now perhaps we ought to start calling it the "Offal Office.")
Are you prepared to accept this for your country? Is this the type of America you want your children to grow up in? I'm sputtering here ... come on folks! Do you want to live in a country where one of the most powerful politicians in the country feels free to call for you to be investigated by the government if you dare to say anything that might convey a disagreement with that politicians stance on a particular issue? What in the hell is this country becoming?
It's well past time to put down the People magazines, turn off Inside Edition, forget Snookie, put the sports section aside for later ... and start paying attention to what is happening to us!
Turn the clock ahead 20 years. Your child comes to you and tells you that he and you need to find a quiet place to talk. You've been through this before ... so you head into the garage, start the car, turn up the radio, and start whispering to each other. Your son, it seems, is in trouble. He participated in a protest against a proposed new law requiring the implantation of micro-tags in all newborns. Now he discovers that he's being investigated by a federal police agency for sedition. He looks at you and asks you what you were doing when these radicals moved into power 20 years ago ... what did you do to stop them. Did you campaign against them? Did you work to vote them out of office when you could? So .. what do you do? Are you going to look at him and say "Sorry, son. The Phillies were in a pennant race in 2010 when we really could have made a difference, and your mom was buried under a stack of US Weekly magazines. You were busy trying to figure out just how you were suppose to wear your baseball hat from one week to the next. We just weren't paying attention. Now it's too late.
The very idea that this hideous woman would call for an investigation of people, like the 911 Families, who oppose this Islamic monument to terror should be enough to turn every decent American into a fuming zealot dedicated to removing her from office. Unfortunately her constituency consists of tired old hippies, dedicated anti-capitalists and elitist footstools who are so impressed with their own liberalism that they've lost touch with anything resembling reality long, long ago.
The people of her district will not remove Nancy Pelosi this November. They're simply not that bright. But the voters of this country can strip her of the bulk of her authority and power ... they can cause her to pack up her junk and move out of the Speaker's office. This situation is grave, my friends. We now have Democrat leadership calling for opponents of their policies to be investigated. Do you understand the threat implicit in the words "should be investigated"?
At just what point do you start to become afraid? VERY afraid?
* Yes, "at" Ground Zero. If the landing gear from the jet flown into Tower One crashed through the roof of this very building .. then it's not "near" Ground Zero .. it's part of ground zero.
You may remember the stories from Bell, California. A few weeks ago it came to light that Bell city manager Robert Rizzo was making a six-figure salary while the rest of the city's services were on the verge of collapse. Things finally got to the point where citizens angrily protested his and other salaries in city government. Well as if a $787,000 salary for a city manager isn't outrageous enough, estimates now show that Robert Rizzo's total annual compensation totaled more than $1.5 million a year. It included 20 weeks paid vacation -- $386,786 in paid vacation and sick benefits this year -- in addition to his base salary, and he received deposits to his investment accounts and other benefits. Your government at work. How did we allow it to get to this point? Government has zero incentive to stop something like this from happening. There are always more pockets to rob at the point of a gun to pay for promises, pensions and vote-buying programs.
You betcha - we'll be covering this on the show today. Everybody is talking about it, and I'm sure not going to be left out. In fact ... we hit some of these absurd items yesterday on the show, so judging by listener reaction I know you are absolutely going to love/hate hearing these things. "Monkeys on cocaine. New windows for a closed visitor's center. Modern dance as a tool for software development." What do all of these have in common? They were stimulus projects, funded by your tax dollars, which were supposed to turn the tide of our economy. Don't worry. We will have a lot of fun playing around with this document from Tom Coburn and John McCain. The White House says it isn't a credible report. That makes it all the more credible. Be sure to listen.
Question: If corporate welfare is so bad, why is welfare for artists so wonderful? You do realize, don't you, that this German artist would have no chance in hell of selling his POS work of art in the private marketplace for anywhere near $850,000. Why are taxpayers abused this way?
This is what happens when you let government hacks get control of other people's money. That is the basis of our current problems with government. And it is not limited to Washington or to city halls. Take a look at this study out of California which shows that there is absolutely no correlation between government school spending and test scores. Yet K-12 spending rose 21.9% from fiscal 2003-2004 to 2008-2009, outpacing state income growth and inflation. When it comes down to it, none of that money ended up actually going to students -- classroom expenditures as a share of total school spending fell to 57.8% from 59%. Instead, it went toward hiring more administrators, who then enjoyed outlandish bonuses and pay hikes with zero accountability or performance-based system.
"An unlimited power to tax involves, necessarily, a power to destroy; because there is a limit beyond which no institution and no property can bear taxation."
Red light cameras .. they are a joke. Anyone who actually uses the line that red light cameras are being put in place for safety purposes is feeding you a light of Bravo Sierra. The only reason that cities will implement red light cameras is to generate revenue. Period. End of story.
Just take a look at the statistics from West Palm Beach's little experiment with red light cameras. During the first 90 days that red light cameras were in place, rear-end collisions doubled and the number of accidents increased from the same time last year. But that matters not, because all city officials see are dollar signs - 2,675 camera fines were issued, generating a third of a million dollars .. and that was just in the month of March.
--Rear-end collisions increased to five from two. Rear-end accidents sometimes go up with cameras because anxious drivers are more likely to stop abruptly.
--Overall accidents increased to seven from six.
--The only injury in either period came under cameras, in a rear-end crash in March 2010. The injury was "non-incapacitating," according to records supplied by cities and compiled in Palm Beach County's accident database.
