IT GOES BOTH WAYS

A lot of talk has happened over this cluster-fornication in NY 23. The fallout from the race continues, and as it persists, things are looking uglier for Republicans. RINO Senator Lindsey Graham is warning that conservatives are going to destroy the Republican Party if they try to drive away moderate candidates. He says, "To those people who are pursuing purity, you'll become a club not a party ... Those people who are trying to embrace conservatism in a thoughtful way that fits the region and the state and the district are going to do well. Conservativism is an asset. Blind ideology is not." Perhaps Graham was addressing the abortocentrists in the party. If not, he should have been.

Let me remind you that this idea of party purity goes both ways. MoveOn.org is on an email campaign to defeat any Democrat who is not 100% in support of Obamacare. Now, there are a lot of you who will argue that MoveOn.org does not represent the vast majority of the Democrat Party. This "progressive" wing of the Democrat Party is always in jeopardy of splitting voters. Let's hope the looters pursue the purity principle while conservatives ease up a bit. Might even save the Republic.

THE GOP HAS A PLAN

So the Republicans have come up with a 230-page healthcare alternative. It took the Democrats 1,990 pages. Wonder why it took so much more. Could it be perhaps because the Democrat plan grossly expands the federal government and bureaucracy?

What does the Republican alternative include? Glad you asked. Some of the highlights are:

  • Increasing incentives for people to use health savings accounts
  • Capping non-economic awards in medical malpractices cases
  • Incentives for states to drive down premium costs
  • Allowing health insurance to be sold across state lines

What does the Republican plan NOT include?

  • No employer mandate
  • No individual health insurance mandate
  • It doesn't require insurers to cover pre-existing conditions
  • Probably some abortion stuff that I could care less about

As the Republicans introduced their bill the Democrats were passing around a binder with a cover page reading "Republican Health Care Plan." Inside you would only find blank pages. Very cute ... the Republicans introduce a 233 page plan, and the Democrat Socialist Party refuses to acknowledge its very existence.

There is, though, something wrong with the GOP bill. They posted it online in a non-searchable format. This is particularly vexing to reporters like Jamie Dupree. If you follow him on Twitter [@jamiedupree] you can share his pain. There is, as I see it, only one reason to post your legislation in this manner ... and that's to make it more difficult for snoopy reporters and voters to get into that bill and look for specific little goodies. We expect this from Democrats. Republicans need to correct this.

SANFORD AND THE ARGENTINEAN FLATBELLY

At least ...... I'm assuming she's a flatbelly until we get picture proof. Anyway, what a wild story. First the Governor of South Carolina goes "missing." Then there is a period of days where he is staff "thinks" he is hiking in the Appalachian Mountains. Then he shows up yesterday and admits that he has been "clearing his head" in Argentina ...... with his Argentinean lover.

THIS TWEET FROM A FOLLOWER

"You should add "hiking the Appalachian Trail" as a new boortztionary euphemism." @DanMarrero

Done! Great idea!

You can follow me on Twitter ... user name is Talkmaster.

Alright, should we give the guy a pass? As one of my Twitter followers (14,000+ strong) pointed out (and I love this): If Mark Sanford had cheated on his taxes instead of his wife, he would have been a cabinet member by now.

Naturally the media jumped on this story. But Republicans in particular jumped on it, calling Sanford a "bastard" or "scumbag" or any name that would impart their own moral supremacy onto the situation. Give it up, folks. Men are pigs, all men, no exceptions. Not that that is an excuse, but this guy isn't doing anything to his girlfriend that the average politician hasn't done to the average taxpayer. Besides ... don't we have a wonderful history of this sort of stuff? John F. Kennedy comes to mind. Then there's Bill Clinton. The Democrats, you will remember, were telling us that this Clinton thing didn't matter ... it was his private life after all.

I'll tell you what really bothered me. Father's Day. It's Father's Day and this character is nowhere to be found. He has four sons wondering where their daddy is. How sad. Meanwhile .. another step backward for the Republicans. Look ... the Republicans love to parade through town on their moral high horses. When they fall off it's naturally going to make more noise.

Thud.

AN INSENSITIVE THOUGHT

Headlines like this that remind me why the Republican Party is in its current state of pathetic existence: "Conservatives Urge Americans to Pray for a Troubled Nation."

No .. I have nothing against prayer. I use it every day. But I'm sorry ... as crazy as it seems there are still people who are looking to the dysfunctional Republican Party for some ideas on how to bring our nation back from the Obama-socialist precipice. Maybe it's just me ... but when I look to the Republican leadership for some sort of a brilliant plan, "Pray for a troubled nation" doesn't quite cut it. Our pastors can handle that suggestion .. we expect more from elected officials.

DON'T LET THE CHILDREN SEE ALCOHOL!

You are going to love this one. In fact, when I first read it I wanted to call BS on the whole thing. I looked at the website, and it wasn't The Onion, so I'm going to operate on the assumption that this is true. Hey, I can be fooled so go figure this one out for yourself.

A Republican state senator in Utah is really putting his public service and taxpayer salary to good use. Michael Waddroups, of Taylorsville, wants to make sure that minors in restaurants do not see alcohol until it reaches the table. Children should be forbidden to see liquor bottles or drinks being poured by bartenders. Waddoups says, "Restaurants are turning into bars" .. oh no! .. "It's making it look attractive. Kids see it and wonder what they're missing. I think we need to be a little more strict." So his solution is to create a physical barrier that would block the view of any alcohol or bartenders in restaurants. Or he wants to require that all restaurants have a separate room, which the customers can't see, where bartenders can store alcohol and prepare drinks.

Now Utah is already pretty backwards when it comes to their alcohol laws. They already have this thing restaurants call the "Zion Curtain" which is a glass barrier that separates customers from bartenders. Utah also has a law that requires customers to fill out an application and pay a fee for the "right to walk into a bar." There's a new right to add to the books.

There was supposed to be a legislative meeting about this proposal last night. We'll let you know if we find out any more details ... in the meantime, join me in saying "Give me a freakin' break."

THE DEMOCRAT GAINS

It is still hard to tell for sure the full extent of the damage in the Congress. But it basically went as expected. The Democrats won't get their magical 60 seats in the Senate, but they will have enough. Already with a majority in the Senate, Republican Sens. Elizabeth Dole of North Carolina and John Sununu of New Hampshire lost their seats to Democrats. Also, Virginia and New Mexico picked up seats from retiring GOP Senators. Some races (like in Minnesota) are still too close to call.

In the House, the Democrats were able to knock out at least 12 Republicans so far and gain 9 open GOP seats. There were a few Republicans who were able to win over Democrat incumbents (four, to be exact). But a lot of these races are still going. The last we heard, Democrats had over 250 seats in the House and at this rate, they are expected to gain 20 seats in total. That would put their somewhere around 255 seats.

Oh and let's not even get started on Governor's races.

This truly is a sad day for the Republican party, but all hope may not be lost. Once people start to find out that Obama isn't the messiah they think he is, the Libertarians will have a good shot at coming to power. The Republican party has basically imploded on itself and can't be taken seriously anymore. If we started now, we may be able to take advantage of the situation.

Hi Neal,
The next 4 years will be an uphill battle for achievement-oriented individuals like myself. Fortunately, guys like myself thrive on challenges ergo, I am recommitting myself to my business (I'm self-employed) and the betterment of myself and my family. It will take all I can muster to overcome the anti-achievement government we inflicted on ourselves this night. But I've had tougher challenges than this one, for sure.

This is not what our constitution promised the individual, but now the group think begins and tax tyranny will run wild.I hope this ends different than it has begun!!!!!

Hi Neal. I have been a devoted listener to all of the top conservative talk radio shows for many years. I turn on the radio first thing in the morning and don't turn it off until that night. However, I plan to wean myself from all conservative talk radio shows to try to keep my sanity the next four years. For me, at this time, ignorance is bliss. I am upset and nervous about the future of this country and I hope that by not hearing the awful truth I can keep from getting more upset and depressed. So in other words... I'm not going to listen to you for four years. I hope you are still on at that time.

INTEMPERATE ELECTION THOUGHTS

If you don't think that the dumbing-down of America through government education had anything to do with Obama's victory, then you ought to be sentenced to reading some of the comments from Obama supporters we've received. You would soon be of a different opinion.

Get ready for retroactive tax increases. When the Democrats begin their punishment of achievement you can bet that that they'll make any tax increase on the high achievers retroactive to January 1, 2009.

An idea for small business owners: Make note now of which of your employees voted for Obama. When the tax increases hit and you're looking for a way to cut expenses to offset the higher taxes, they should be the first to go. They voted for it, let them suffer the consequences.

Did you see those black militants at the Philadelphia polling places? There they were in the black berets brandishing nightsticks guarding the entrance to the polling location. Not much screaming over that. But ... what it if had been skinheads "guarding" the entrance to a predominately white polling place. Yeah .. just imagine the reaction to that for a moment.

I wonder what percentage of the vote can be attributed to the media's fawning over The Chosen One? Not only do Republicans have to fight to win the hearts and minds of Americans again .. but they have to battle the media as well. Nothing there will change. One commentator last night said that Obama will scratch their stomachs every once in a while and they'll roll over like puppies.

While we're on that topic, you cannot imagine the number of "Wait until Barack Obama is President, and see what happens to you" emails we've received here at the Boortz show. We generally chose not to comment on or post them ... but they were there nonetheless - in large numbers. I cannot remember a previous election where a candidate was wielded as a weapon like this.

Do you realize that way back yonder at the founding of our Republic the word "Democrat" was an epithet? Back then if you called someone a Democrat you might well be challenged to a duel --- or just get the snot knocked out of you. In the late 1700s a Democrat was "someone who panders to the whims of the masses." Not much has changed insofar as the definition has changed ... but now we elect them.

Rhetorical ability is so very important in politics. Obama has it, McCain does not. Smooth talkers win at single's bars and in politics .. often with similar outcomes for the listener.

I wonder how many people voted their jobs away yesterday?

Looking ahead to 2012? Unless someone better shows up, Huckabee is my choice on the Republican side. As for the Libertarian ... well, I have a favorite choice, but don't know if he'll run, let alone if he could win the nomination. A lot of peace-at-any-price Libertarians aren't too fond of him.

I still remember in the days after the Republican voter revolution of 1994 when I heard a talk radio colleague telling listeners that liberals are finished .. done. The suggestion was made that we should save a few liberals and put them on display just so we can remember what they were like. "Yeah," I thought. "Don't kid yourself. They'll be back with a vengeance.. looking for conservative blood." Hellllooooooooo!

Here in Georgia Republican Senator Saxby Chambliss won reelection. He defeated a Democrat weasel who told voters that "Saxby Chambliss wants to add a 23% sales tax to everything you buy." You see .. there is something to smile about today.

PALIN 2012?

One of the rumors circulating has been the fact that Sarah Palin has no intentions of leaving the national political stage, and that she would be a top contender for 2012. At that rate she would have been a mayor, a governor, and a vice presidential nominee ... but for Democrats, I'm sure that will not be enough experience for Palin to be considered. A lot can happen in four years. Heck, we've learned in this election that a lot can happen in just days. It wasn't but a few weeks ago that Joe the Plumber entered the scene. But the Republican Party has a lot of work to do before it can even think of another election.

A VICTORY TO SAVOR?

Fox News has now called my home state of Georgia for McCain. Also - to make the news even better - Fox has called Georgia's Republican Senator Saxby Chambliss the winner in the Senate race. The Chambliss win is comforting on several levels. One, his opponent campaigned on lies about the FairTax. I still believe in the FairTax as strongly as ever .. but more on that later. Secondly, this is one Senate seat the MoveOn Democrats won't be able to count on for their filibuster proof majority.

IT'S UP TO YOU

The last thing I would want to do is discourage any capable and qualified voter from heading out today to vote. Now by capable and qualified I mean someone who is actually a citizen and someone who has somewhat of a clue as to what is going on out there. The sad truth is that there are going to be legions of voters like that idiot woman at an Obama rally who thought that once Obama wins here mortgage payments and gas for her car were going to be taken care of.

Obama is going to win this thing. There are only two mysteries left. How big will the victory be, and will Obama get a filibuster-proof U.S. Senate. If I had not already case my vote during early voting I would stand in line as long as it took here in Georgia to make sure that our Republican Senator is not replaced by a left-wing Democrat - one who is destined to become Harry Reid's sock puppet if he wins.

So ... some Election Day thoughts:

Thanks, Republicans. This one belongs to you. The Republican Party completely abandoned its principles after the voter revolution of 1994. The GOP became the party of big spending and big government. Beltway Republicans became drunk on power and completely forgot why they were there. They gave us no real reason to go to the polls and vote for them save for that filibuster-proof Senate scare and the fear of what the election of a Marxist will mean to our freedoms.

Thanks, George Bush. Thanks for your spectacular lack of leadership on issues of spending and big government over the past two terms. You get all the credit in the world for keeping America safe from another terrorist attack ... but when a president signs a bill he thinks is unconstitutional (McCain-Feingold) just because he thinks the Supreme Court will straighten things out; and when a president introduces grand new entitlement programs (Medicare drug benefits) and fails to veto even one pork-laden spending bill ... well, the result is an uninspired electorate and ... Barack Obama.

Thanks, Government Schools. Back to that woman at the Obama rally: Does she really believe that once Obama is elected she won't have to worry about putting gas in her car or paying her mortgage? Yup, she probably does. Then we have those Harlem voters who think that Barack Obama did a fine job in selecting Sarah Palin as his running mate. This election, more than any I can remember, illustrates why Democrats are so determined to preserve our system of government education. American voters are, for the most part, spectacularly uninformed about the issues and the candidates they are voting for. Did I say "uninformed?" I meant to say ignorant. For the most part these people casting ballots today could not name their two U.S. Senators and their Congressman if their flat-screens and cell phones depended on it. Things are only going to get worse. Get ready for an all-out war on school choice .. and that includes the home schooling option. The era of the teacher's unions is upon us.

And thanks Voters. This is an election that has been driven by wealth envy and celebrity worship. I really don't see any of this changing anytime soon ... so, whatchagonnado?

I really should be saving most of this for tomorrow .. when we find out just how much trouble our Republic is really in. For today ... all we can realistically hope for is keeping those big-government numbers down in the Senate.
